O&A's On-Air Fight Tells us Show's Future
17 2014-08-28 by _TheConsumer_
Here's the video link
Some of the highlights:
"Maybe it's time to split. We've done great radio - there's nothing left to do together. We'll each go our separate ways and take on new challenges." - Opie (3:40)
“I could do something else without you, tomorrow. Another radio show, sit out a year – whatever.” - Opie (5:50)
"I don't hate you, I don't dislike you but we're moving in totally different directions. We're together 14 years; it's time to move on." - Opie (6:19)
"Instant Feedback says I won't make it on my own. That's alright, not like I've been doing radio since I'm 18." - Opie (~20:00)
This was from their on-air fight around 2008. Looking back on it with what we know now - I think we have some insight into the future of the show.
Opie has no intention of rejoining Anthony. He has thought for quite some time that the show is old and stale. His "new challenges" quip is playing out as we speak- both guys have their own shows.
He also will not rejoin Anthony just to prove he can make it on his own. If he succeeds, he will be a smug ass with an "Anthony who?" attitude. If he fails, he will 100% quit radio - because he is a man child that will pout in the corner.
After giving this a good listen, I really think Opie is sort of happy that the show ended this way. Neither guy has blood on his hands and fans are angry at some faceless corporate entity. His words say he wishes Anthony was still around – but his actions (past and present) tell us he's done with Anthony and he wants his own show.

This is what my sources are telling me:
-Artie lang will take over for Ant
-Jim is leaving and will team with Ant
-Brother Joe will take Jim's place
-Opie is leaving to do Brother Weez
-Brother Weez will be doing Ant's show on Wednesdays and Flag Day
-Chip will take over for Erock
-Erock will move to the ocean to be with his pod
-Sam will admit he stinks and be promoted to CEO of Sirius

No chance of Brother Joe replacing both O&J and the Anthony Cumia show?

Even in '09. I love it.

The best line is right after Opie says something like, "I don't need this, I don't need you, I can go and do something else tomorrow!" and Ant goes, "Yeah right. Like what? Gonna go spin some records?"
And even 5 years ago, fans knew Opie needed Ant and 2009 Opie is not nearly so bad as 2014 Opie. He'd only been married for a few months, didn't have kids, etc.

I didn't listen to the longer clip that was posted last week. but holy crap. this was pretty uncomfortable....
Opie comes off as such a jack ass.

Do not have to sir.
Opie basically repeated leave it alone, while Ant threw zingers.
Opie looked almost into it, bringing up Ants call out of work with the Jill saga, but that made great radio in the long run.
They accused each other of not being into the show, then Opie suggested that it was over, and they should do thier own things.
Ants response is chronicled by others here.
Ant won this fight in hindsight, Ant is revving up in his endeavor, while Opie flops like sunny on the deck, before we use its eyes as bait.
( free advice - Sunny eyes = kickass bait for real fish)

The missed work for Jill was one of the most epic things to ever happen on the show. Ant builds up the audience for days about the date...and then disappears for 48 hours. You can't write shit like that. I bet their highest listenership was during the Jill Nicolini saga. He did'nt just stay home because he wanted a day off, he was fucking jill for a day and a half, a woman they'd been drooling over on TV for months!
For Opie to be cunty about that is hysterical, he was so fucking jealous of Ant's lifestyle.

I would listen to Opie spinning Chuck Berry, and Frankie Lymon and the teenager records on a daytimer AM station in Wisconsin.
Not because I like it, just to point and laugh.

I have a serious question. Does Opie have just as many militant fans as Anthony does?
12 _TheConsumer_ 2014-08-28
I don't think so. Anthony has the type of personality that you either love or hate. His firing brought out all the fans that love him.
Opie is tapioca. We all know it's in the fridge "just in case" but no one ever gets a real craving for it.

Didn't the fight start because Opie got pissed Ant was eating on-air? At some point near the end Ant offers Opie a blueberry or whatever he was eating.
2 sheRATCHETT 2014-08-28
Something about a yogurt spoon if I remember right. Opie can't say anything about anyone eating on air. Dude talks with his mouth full and chews into the mic more than anyone.
3 dolphenwulf 2014-08-28
Opie is screwed here. He has rode off the backs of comedians his whole career. And now that ants gone, he just brings in other comedians to replace the lack of content. I love Jim, and he is doing whats right for the remaining listeners. I have no hard feelings for Jim, but the show is over, Ive listened everyday for 10 years, but to recover from this is an insult to the listeners.
8 UnwarrantedArrogance 2014-08-28
Don't forget that Opie is also a comedian, and a damn funny one at that.
2 BeerCanThick 2014-08-28
When did that happen? Damn funny?

His last stand up gig was...
1 devilsadvocate33 2014-08-28
Jimmy doesn't give a fuck about the remaining listeners. Jimmy's doing what he thinks is right for Jimmy.
But he's wrong.
He should hook up with Ant; subscriptions would double, and so would Jimmy's salary, as Anthony knows how to spread it around. And Jimmy could go on just about any podcast he wanted to to promote his comedy gigs (as well as on Anthony's show, obviously); his stand-up career wouldn't miss a beat.

I remember listening to this on my way home from college worried that they were actually serious. Now I wish Opie did leave...

recent show reference as username? Check
optimistic non hateful thread? Check
rehashed theories from 6 years ago? Check
new posterz rule

I guess I could start my response with how I've listened to the show for 15 years. Or, I can begin listing my favorite bits - starting with Voyeur Bus and Quantum Dice. I can also start recalling all the times I went to live events starting in 2000/2001.
But it isn't worth it. You're only interested in my username. So, I chose a recent, non- overused one for originality.
I'm sorry I wasn't SpudsBuckley99z or Uncle Paul 6469. I didn't have your sensitivities in mind.
Also, the show reference pertains to recent show activity. It isn't a 6 yr old call back.
Thanks for playing.
