Jocktober was the show at its best.

Jocktober could be the best, most original thing they've ever come up with. What a genius fucking idea; not only was it like shooting fish in a barrel, it highlighted just what was so great about O&A: they were the antithesis of all that kind of crap. It became such an event, it had crappy morning shows all over the country shaking with fear. That's fucking great.

I couldn't wait every year for Jocktober. It brings out the best in everyone on the show. Opie is funniest when he's being a dick, and genuinely frustrated. Because he came up in the biz & knows all the insider tricks and horse shit, it's great to hear his take on how schlocky this stuff is, and to have an actual subject he can talk about & not flounder in vague/un-substantive observations. Jimmy & Ant play off each other perfectly and have mountains of awful crap to tee off on. Sam is at his oozingly smart-assy, sarcastic best. Even the listeners are great; all the photo bombs & rotten shit they flood these shows' pages with. Everyone is uniformly focused through hatred of bad radio, and in perfect form; it's like a well-oiled machine. It was my favorite month of the show all year.

I checked out this old Jocktober today, it was the first appearance of Jimmy as "Todd Pettingal." It was one of the funniest things I ever heard Jimmy do, for him to come up with that impression, holy shit. (FF at least 1:45 in, they spend waaaay too much time talking about HR shit at the workplace) http://gregorioantonioyimmy.blogspot.com/2013/10/2013-jocktober-30-ian-halperin.html

Another thing the show used to do which no other show would pull off as well is Bombs and Flubs. They actually acknowledged how unfunny they could be, and how little they listened to each other.

They haven't done Bombs and Flubs in about 5 years. It was a great bit, though.

I loved bombs and flubs. Line of the day too. I heard the rumor is that Opie nixed line of the day because he was never involved.

Opie suggested line of the day in the first place, iirc. Right after he had an actual good line, which they called him out on.

Opie actually got Line of the Day sometimes when he totally didn't deserve it. I think they deliberately gave it to him a few times just so he could feel better about himself.

When it came back on the after show the past year I noticed Opie was getting picked a lot. Maybe that was the bit?

Definitely my favorite.

Some of them stopped acknowledging the unfunniness toward the end.

Not to be a dramatic creep, but Jocktober completely changed regular radio for me. Once they really pulled back the curtain and revealed how much of it is farmed out bits, canned topics, fake stunts, and stock characters it becomes completely unlistenable, even as white noise.

Agreed. A radio station near me was doing prank phone calls which this woman in my office thought was hilarious. I tried to tell her several times that they were all fake/set up and that it was illegal to do them for real but she kept saying I was lying.

I'M NOT LOYING

Jocktober is great, but for me it is second to when they would get any kind of weird found audio (8 track porn, the Fonz' song about molestation, etc.) or overanalyze a TV show.

Over analysis of anything is wonderful. Like good ol hat removal video

Yeah that racist Happy Days episode that they overanalyzed was an instant classic. immediately became one of my all time favorite bits.

As long as we're talking about how shitty both Opie and Todd are... http://i.imgur.com/BuvXQgr.jpg

Well, didn't need to see that before going to bed.

The best Jocktober was in 2011. That's when they had Rocky & Sue, Drifty, and all the other characters from Stephen Kings rock station in Bangor Maine.

The last 3 years, Jocktober kinda sucked, because they would do boring stories all day and then give Jocktober 4 minutes, because they had to get some who gives a shit C-List Guest in studio to Bore everyone.

Rocky and Sue are on the morning radio where I live. I don't know anyone who listens to them/ever listened to them.

Jimmy's Todd impressions are hilarious, some of the funniest shit I've heard on that show.

Oh and my favorite jocktober has to be the one where it backfires on Sam And they play his horrendous hits 1 promos. He's sounds like such a fucking twink.

BRAVO! I only started listening in 2007, and Jocktober was an instant hit with me...EVERY year since they started it, I'd look forward to Octobers just for "the bit". As the Opester would say (but I'm not lying) "To be honest with you", the laughs I got from the Jocktobers got me through a lot of through times, and they will be truly missed.

I'll be re-listening to Jocktober's for years to come.

I think Jocktober really brought out Opie's strengths too.

I've enjoyed it when they've hit a shit show where I live now, and when they hit a shit show from where I grew up. It was like validation for me, that yes, these are awful shows.

I like Jocktober OK, but sometimes the douche levels from O&A complaining matched the douche levels of the shows they were complaining about.

Sam is always awesome during these segments, though. It's a perfect platform for his snarky, know-it-all, sarcastic personality.

Maybe if he doesn't re-sign he will go to Ant's show as a guest and they can do some jocktober together? Wishful thinking.

If they don't re-sign; I can see Jimmy being a staple on Ants show. I can't even imagine how great Jimmy & Ant would be together on an uncensored Platform, without Opie plowing through the funny with HOLD ON HOLD ON!!! I can't see Opie doing many shows with Ant. Opie is a control freak, and he wouldn't be top dog at Ants house, and I don't think Opie's ego can handle that.

I know this will be down voted to oblivion, but I really wasn't that great IMO. We know all radio sucked thats why we listened to O&A(besides i wanna see the boat movie). Ant's impressions and discussing current events with those impressions was the best part of the show. Jesse talking about conspiracies "have you ever seen the documentary Independence day? you laugh but that is actual fact" Doing howie with what he was doing in the news "I know enjoy a good clogging robin"+When they got angry at howie, but not serious enough for ant to still joke around. Alex jones and his false flags operations and of course TOPICAL ANDREW DICE CLAY. As well as comedians ripping each other and A&J apart. I know this will never see the light of day past the first 4 or 5 viewers but watever. D-VOTES COMMENCE!

Even the mainstream reddit hate this I know I am getting down vote shit

either way i get downvotes so i guess i win.

Just trying to say that it isn't a popular opinion that jockotber isn't great IMO and other shit they used to do was way better.

Suggesting it be downvoted is another way of signaling i know how unpopular the opinion is.

Don't talk about downvotes or upvotes. It's one of the most cringe inducing things you can do, you're essentially saying:

"I know this is an edgy, controversial opinion but I'm going to out it out there, GODDAMN the consequences!"

They're emptier than an Opie story and as relevant to the real world as Jimmy's politics. If you really didn't care you wouldn't have said anything. Sheddup.

kewl thanks for the internet advice, i will be sure to implement it

I'm relatively new to reddit. Can someone explain to me the Down Vote/Up Vote Thing? I haven't learned anything yet. I also Don't understand the Points System??

I like how everyone on here is laid back. I never joined; but I read another forum Daily for a while, and it was nothing but people fighting with each other, trying to act like they know O&A personally. It was the most uncomfortable douche chilling thing I ever witnessed!

I was under the impression that it was Sam's idea.

You might actually be right about that. I kind of remember it being Sam's bit. If so, it's the equivalent to his "curing Polio" in his entire 9 year tenure.

You say Jocktober was the show at its best as if they won't be doing it again this year.

Believe me, they will; except this year it's going to be a lot more serious than it was before. Opie's anger at the state of the broadcasting industry will be on full throttle. No laughs; just rage.

I was thinking about that today. Obviously, if they don't re-sign, no Jocktobes anyway. But even if they do, I feel like it's going be like having Christmas at the recently dead relative's house that always hosted your family Christmas every year.

Dude, the show's over... Jocktober this year will be like fucking your girlfriend after she's been released from the burn victims unit at the hospital. It will never be the same and you're just counting down the day's until you can dump her and not look like an asshole.

Nah. Half of the fun was what the pests did to the Facebook pages and Twitter accounts.

Opie, Jimmy and someone like Louis or Attell or Soder can do it just fine.

I dunno dude, the Opester is a hypocrite but Jocktobering someone elses show when he has put out about 3 hours of listenable radio since Ant got fired might just be a little too much for even him.

Actually, the show, aka "The Opie and Anthony Show" is over, regardless of whether they, Opie and Jim, re-sign or not.
