Let me tell you why, Roland's brother.

He's not an on air personality. He's not an entertainer, he's not a comic, he's a behind the scenes talent booker. Opie, because he's a child, is endlessly entertained by Roland because he has a naturally wacky voice. Therefore anything he says is "funny." Now Opie has given him a platform on the show as if he were talent, but no one outside of Greg Hughes finds him funny.

Roland being on every once in a great while or in small doses is fine. But having him do entire segments is aggravating and a waste of time, particularly when you have talent sitting there ON the show & now taking time away from them to give to Roland. Roland isn't particularly funny or interesting, all he cares about is food.

I don't blame Mr Campos for this, I blame Opie. I don't hate Roland, he seems like a nice enough guy. But as far as him eating up air time, it's frustrating and further evidence of Opie's poor ship steering and decision making.

It's not just that. Roland (by Opie's hand) is the one that brought in the "cro-nuts" thing that wasted fucking HOURS of show over the course of a couple months. It was never interesting, it was never funny, we were just supposed to laugh I guess because "Roland is obsessed with food," and "the cro-nut guy is really quirky." It got to the point where Jim and Ant had to speak up, and tell the ship-steerer "enough with the cro-nuts."

There's countless other un funny and overly long Roland segments. After years of this, people get really annoyed, hence "the Roland hate." It's particularly exacerbated in times like this, where funny/entertaining moments are precious few. We get a master like Dave Attell in there, and his mic time is lost to a Roland segment? Cmon.

Not to mention that it's been brought forward that the staff and crew walk around on eggshells, so Roland won't throw a fit. That's extremely dysfunctional behavior, and it's led to endlessly boring segments on his food addiction. They've grown a monster, and they don't have the guts to deal with him effectively - tell him to shut the fuck up, and if he throws a tantrum or effects guests coming in over his food addiction, he's fired.

Talent bookers are NOT hard to find.

I'm gonna say a lot of the show hate right now is just collateral damage from Opie hate...

I mean he's spent SOOOOOO many years as the ships captain, how all of a sudden is he not able to make a good show? Anthony was just one of the tools but he was the true radio mastermind, isn't that the bullshit he's been feeding us for years? Like how he is the greatest radio mind ever?

If Opie is the radio God that he claims to be then why when he has a room full of proven funny comics does he go to Roland? Is he saying to himself "This is gonna prove the haters wrong!"

Why is Opie such a fucking asshole?

I'm willing to be that Gregg Hughes is a perfectly nice guy in real life. But he's not funny. And to make up for that, he's created this radio character called "Opie" that's a troll.

The thing is, it would be genuinely funny if Opie was a character that came on the show maybe an hour a month. Jim Norton's character "Steve from Yellowstone" is a great example of what I mean. "Steve from Yellowstone" would show up, and all of us know that he's going to do something horrible and annoying, and we hold our breath waiting for it.

But Opie does his troll routine 24x7, and it's only funny in very small doses. It would be the equivalent of Jim Norton yelling "Ramoooooooone" every three minutes.

TLDR : Opie is a troll. Trolling is funny... in very small doses. Opie does it all the time, and it becomes grating and annoying.

We don't need to justify our hate to the likes of you.
