These guys are blithering idiots. The reason the audio levels go up and down is because they're using those ridiculous studio mics. The second they turn their heads away from the mics they can't be heard because those mics are designed to be spoken directly into. It's especially bad when you have guests who aren't trained to use studio mics correctly (which is most people, including Anthony apparently).
If they doubt this then they should ask themselves why the phone call levels are always ok. The reason is that the calls are patched directly into the sound board and don't go through the studio mics.
They need to use lavalier mics so that they move with the person's head and maintain the audio level better. They also need to ditch the stupid pointless headphones. Radio technology and practices don't transition well into video productions.
They're going to spend themselves into a hole trying to fix simple problems.
It might help some, but as it stands compression will just be fighting the characteristics of mics they're using. Lavalier mics are cheap and don't require a tear down, as opposed to a compressor.
