What I learned this summer
2 2014-08-08 by mtlbeard
Anthony was fired, started his own show, and widely exceeded my expectations.
Jim Norton, while working full time at the show AND doing stand-up, recorded 4 episodes of a vice talk show, and WIDELY exceeded my expectations.
Opie.....

Opie rented a beach house and the commute is killing him.

Opie opened a awful Tshirt sweatshop.

Well yeah dude what the fuck is Opie gonna do?
Don't bash him because he has no drive, talent, success, sticktoitvness, appeal, likeability, or passion.
God damn Opie haters

Has instructed a lackey to make him a series of embarrassing viral video attempts.
5 Whirlaround 2014-08-08
Did you hear the wheels in his head turning yesterday when he discovered that videos of precocious children go viral super fast?
His kids are going to have a shitty weekend.
5 [deleted] 2014-08-08
Nope, I haven't listened to any news shows since the Montreal Festival.
2 jakdak 2014-08-08
And hired someone to program an auto post to his twitter feed
1 EskimoEscrow 2014-08-08
I'm stupid, can you explain what that is?
2 [deleted] 2014-08-08
His FunnyMofos crap.
1 EskimoEscrow 2014-08-08
Is that FunnyMofos thing his version of the Ibang or something? Or does he not even pick the article that are featured?

it's automated. I remember it posted something about Howard before

It's like he doesn't know how to turn it off.

It's nice that we can all agree, in such a time of turmoil, that Opie is a talentless, hateable fool and the fact that he has had a career in entertainment speaks to the lack of justice and apathy of God.
Opie sucks.
8 Danielson799 2014-08-08
...has kept politics and race off the show. That's an accomplishment.
7 RattAndMouse 2014-08-08
Dude, I think he mentioned one time he has kids. He has no time to do anything, or edit YouTube videos. Oh wait.
3 CowsAreCurious 2014-08-08
He certainly had time to chain his dragon.
7 AntsCamera 2014-08-08
I learned on July 2nd that...
Opie is looking forward to spinning records in Palookaville next year.
"That's the bit!" He screams at his wife as she drops divorce papers at his feet.
5 ptb4life 2014-08-08
Gotta disagree with you on all 3 accounts. Ant's new show is not worth it. Jim's Vice show is mediocre with terrible skits. And Opie's been bringing in some great guests and doing some quality shows.
4 [deleted] 2014-08-08
is leaning on everyone around him to help bail out a sinking ship, with spoons. By Sept 1, it's going to be "watch youtube videos with Sam" for 4 hours a day, 4 days a week. Norton is barely there, I think he's bored to death. He perks up for friends, but the rest of the time...not good. I see him like a bear at the zoo by September, pacing back and forth in front of the window of the studio.
Opie built the show. He knows the dynamics. He hired Ant for that very reason, back in the day. He pushed the shock jockery, going after Howard, the freaks, the hijinks. Now he's basically one bad show from being Fez. I think he's refusing to talk to Ant about the future, because he's got deer in the headlights syndrome.
I hate to say it, but unless he mans up, shakes it off and gets his shit together, he's going to be handed a hard drive of hits and get left behind by Jimmy and Ant. He's got two months. He can do SOMETHING. But he won't. I think he's so afraid of failing, he's going to procrastinate his way out the door.
2 mtlbeard 2014-08-08
Honestly Roland and Sam make me miss Danny (perish the thought). Sam is great during Jocktober but he should not be on air as much as he is...
1 [deleted] 2014-08-08
Opie is seriously hanging on Sam's nuts, because if Sam goes, the show goes. But his asskissing is pathetic, like his comment the other day, that in the old days, he'd have his own show by now. On what merit, Opie? He doesn't have a radio voice, like Denny at least has, no personality and what little he does have is annoying and grating, he's boring, and he's a douchebag who thinks pretending to believe wrestling is real is hysterical, or simply repeating what someone said half-assed ironically is entertainment.
The more he's on, the less I'll listen. Oh, wait, I download it, I can't cancel again. Fuck.
7 Dannyprecise 2014-08-08
The irony of them shitting on Denny for not having a radio voice and turning around and saying Sam should have had his own show by now. Sam's voice is the least of his problems; he's just not an interesting person. He has childish interests and he doesn't have any strong convictions. He's not funny, unless he's trying to stir shit. He says nothing compelling. E! Radio knew what they were doing not hiring that useless piece of shit.
1 BoardroomBimmy 2014-08-08
He shouldn't be on the air ever, or almost ever. I'm fine with him doing his hurr durr overly sarcastic setup for shitty Jocktober targets, but that's it. He's trash every other time he opens his mouth.
If Sayum wants to have his own rasslin shiw where he asks Paul Heyman how much money he still owes Raven or asks Daniel Bryan why he can't cut a single goddamn promo without cracking up, that's fine. His increasing contributions to the show have been one of the many reasons for its sharp decline over the years.

i lol'd in my room, god that is a good analogy+visual, bear at the zoo pacing back and forth

...Will have continued success as a radio host. Believe it or not he has helped a lot of now well known stand ups with their careers. He is fiercely protective of many of the comedians that have appeared on the show and has used his influence to help out guys that were being screwed by shitty club owners.
Sure, the Opie and Anthony show is dead and he doesn't have as much pull that he used to but I am sure there is a significant amount of loyalty to him. I guarantee he will be able to maintain a successful show on his own.
Additionally, his shitty nickname has a lot of brand recognition.
I have faith in him. He's been doing radio since he was 18.
1 GoFudgeUrself 2014-08-08
I agree, tbh. He's a radio lifer. He will die with the technology. A young Scott Shannon.
2 Jockel76 2014-08-08
Me: Jim Florentine is a great comedian once you get past his monotonous voice.
2 callmesnake13 2014-08-08
I didn't understand his success at all based entirely on seeing him on TV or hearing him on the radio, but if you see him in a comedy club he's just overwhelmingly hilarious.
5 jakdak 2014-08-08
He was great back on Crank Yankers as well.
Miss that show.
0 [deleted] 2014-08-08
And past his responding to EVERYTHING with "No, I'm not xx years old".
He really is a fucking bore.
If I cared, I'd make a drinking game for him:
Drink if Jim says:
"No, I wanted to get laid." "That's where the chicks were." "Phenominal" 'Black Sabbath" in reference to anything. "No, I'm not xx years old, I'm an adult."
2 [deleted] 2014-08-08
Yes, Opie has pointed this out on the air several times recently.
1 BigGreenYamo 2014-08-08
I hope someone does another "Phenomenal" mix, using Florentine.
2 numba13 2014-08-08
Opie needs to drink some Titos
2 CowsAreCurious 2014-08-08
Opie likes the same hack radio that they make fun of others for on Jocktober. He likes the dull music breaks. He likes when people "call in with their favorite ______." He likes phone topics. He's from the Brother Wease School of Hack Radio and he doesn't even realize it.
2 IggysGlove 2014-08-08
Find me a list of the best cereals sam!
2 regis69 2014-08-08
Opie revealed his favorite beer, Stiegl Radler.
"Since half of this beer is actually fruit soda, Stiegl Grapefruit Radler is only 2.5 percent alcohol content."
The Opster knows how to party.

Opie's done a great job at adjusting to broadcasting without Ant. Meanwhile, I've found Ant's show really underwhelming. Also, the Vice show is surprisingly great.
I don't think your opinions are unanimous.
1 GoFudgeUrself 2014-08-08
The term is "wildly" exceeded, not widely.

Opie is great and has done a damn fine job of keeping his radio show anchored and focused during this rough patch. Clearly, most of you here find it humorous to bash the guy and point out his shortcomings. But none of you can deny his success. He started the O&A show and led it to twenty years of excellence.
Who knows if Opie will even continue the show past October. I'm sure he has thought very hard on giving it all up. It's easy to give the guy a beating online but I think perhaps your well wishes would be more meaningful at this point. Think of all the good laughs you've had over the years because of the show.
-1 Wolfhoof 2014-08-08
It's literally every thread, the opie bashing at this point. Why even bother coming here anymore?

are you even a fan of jim and ant? Cause if their shows WIDELY exceeded your expectations then they must have been pretty fucking low. Jesus man, did you really expect it to be that shitty, give them some credit.
2 mtlbeard 2014-08-08
I think they are great, but they haven't done much solo stuff and everyone always said opie needed to be there to 'steer the ship'.. Norton is working with Kurt Metzger on his show, doing great stuff, and even reviving characters that were mostly gone from the show like uncle paul.
Nobody thought Ant could do a show on his own but so far he's doing a great job.
Sirius killed most of the funny on the show even before Ant was fired. It's good to see Norton and Ant being funny on their own without SiriusXM breathing down their shoulders. I love Norton's characters and guess what? Chip was on Ants show and Uncle Paul was on the Vice show.. not on the OJ show.
I don't blame Opie for staying, but SiriusXM slowly killed his show. It's good to see Norton and Ant doing their own thing.
3 [deleted] 2014-08-08
The only people who truly believed this were Opie and fools.
I firmly believe Anthony knew this too but what could he do? He was part of a package. The firing was the best thing for him
