Why Do People Think Ant's Paycheck Is Going To Opie And Anthony?
0 2014-08-02 by BeerCanThick
The amount of people who think that SXM will do anything but pocket that money and use cancelled subscriptions to lowball Opie and Jim is astonishing. This company does not like the show. They would not have caved over 4th of July weekend if they did. They were looking for a reason to end the show or cut the paychecks and Ant gave it to them on a silver platter.
The tragicomedic part is people think that the radio industry which has fucked Jim Norton out of his rightful due for a decade will give him a "big fat payraise." No, dummies. They're gonna spend Ant's 2 or 3 million on hookers and drugs. Not only will they spend Ant's money, the money was already spent by the second week of July.

We should all speculate more. I think that's the answer to all of this.

Yeah I think they've had it out for the show for quite a while. Why spend all that money on talent when you can launch another pre programmed 24 hour artist channel? Juice Newton Radio, anybody?

It's strange that "had it out for" and "had it in for" mean the same thing, innit?

You are right sir, there is no more brand, why would they pay Jim and Opie more than pennies on the dollar compared to previous years?

Yep, that's Opie's fight - finding a 2nd mic who is worth that much, and convincing Sirius to buy the show.
Considering his comments that they haven't started negotiations, it doesn't look good.
I would be very surprised if they re-sign Ron & Fez again. Sirius is doubling down on the Oprah and Jenny McCarthy crowd, not ours.

I don't think they'll lowball Opie & Jim since they don't want to lose what's left of that brand but, yeah, Anthony's paycheck isn't going to get reinvested into the channel.

Crunching the numbers for Ant's new show made me realize that there's a reasonable chance that O&A were not pulling their weight relative to what their speculated incomes were, along with whatever Jimmy and the staff's were.

Crunching what numbers?
1 [deleted] 2014-08-02
Potential subscribers, average revenue per subscriber and CPM rates.

How did you come up with potential subscribers vs. How many stayed or subscribed to both?
I'm not arguing, just curious

Well, since so many people were bitching about the price of subscribing to Ant's show, and suggesting an advertising-based show, I did some casual projections for starting a new show, just based on what I estimated as the number of potential subscribers.
I figure that you have to use people that signed those petitions, @thecumiashow followers, as well as @anthonycumia followers, as well as factoring in the old SXM listenership.
I won't be surprised if Ant only gets 2,000 subscribers at an average of $6.00 initially, based off converting about 10-15% of @thecumiashow followers, and the petition signatories.
As far as their SXM numbers go, those are very hard to come by, because we really don't have any numbers. So you have to extrapolate from what their reported/estimated salaries are and take their ad rates into account, and try to estimate how many listeners subscribe on the condition that O&A are available, how many listeners would be indifferent to listening to something else, and how many listeners feel that O&A add value to their subscription/listening but would still stay subscribed if they were gone.
So, if Opie, Ant and Jimmy and staff are making $3 million (a low estimate), and SXM has a $129 average revenue rate per customer, then that would be about 23,000 listeners.
If they make $10 million (a high estimate), then that would be about 77,500 listeners.
As far as how many stayed after Ant's firing, nobody knows.
There's some other stuff too, but that should be enough.

Okay, thanks. I was mainly curious if you were using reasonable numbers. So many people in this sub were initially thinking that Ant would have no less than 50,000 subscribers and that at least 50% of the SiriusXM audience had cancelled their subscription. Glad to see people are being more reasonable now.

What are the subscriber numbers for Ant's new show?
2 [deleted] 2014-08-02
No way of knowing unless you have direct access. I'm figuring 10-15% conversion of @thecumiashow followers and petition signatories, which puts it at about two or three thousand.

That's a reasonable estimate. For the big show though, I think your numbers are light. One million listeners per week, 200k per day are the numbers I've heard (I'm not an industry insider or some hanger-on, just have read that estimate multiple times). If they lost 5-10k from the mouth breathers that send ant their cancellation notice I'd be shocked.

I think SiriusXM likes the show, and the direction it's going in, just fine now.
0 RupertRooksby 2014-08-02
And if true that statement represents the most perfect indictment of this version of the show.
-1 gsbird1065 2014-08-02
Yes and no.
I think the show is still better than anything else on radio, but without Ant it's never going to be as good as it was, and everyone knows that.
Where I differ from most others here is that I don't delude myself into thinking the show could ever again be what it was, even if Ant were somehow to return. The dynamics changed forever one month ago today and they can't be restored. We're never going to hear the O&A show we loved ever again, no matter how many of the original elements are back in place.
