To the untrained eye it looks effortless, but if you look closely you see he switches up the "left hand point to the ass" with the more complex "right hand behind the back point to the ass". This is high-level stuff here folks.
In his mind pointing at the funny thing makes it something funny that THEY'RE doing, instead of something funny JIMMY is doing. He calls it "Getting the assist."
It's sorta like that classic Gregg Hughes and Jim Norton routine, where Jimmy does his Chip character and Gregg points out that he "doesn't acknowledge Chip."
This clip is a nice illustration of the "most of our fans are huge, fat guys" assertion that Anthony has said for years.
Also, this is an example of why Opie sometimes tags a listener-bashing by Anthony or Jimmy with, "That's what WE do now!" after sitting silently. Opie thinks proximity to funny people means that he is funny, too.

Thank god opie is there to incessantly point at Jimmy's ass! Otherwise I would have no clue why that is funny!!!... Dummy

Ok, so did I just one black guy there?
Also, these fans are the people I share a common interest with? No wonder I don't tell anyone I like this show. Embarrassing.

Yep.

Are you sure that's not Manuel Noriega?
3 Somewhatcerulean 2014-08-02
You have better odds of seeing Noriega at an O&A show than a black person, so that's likely.

You missed this one.

That could be John Cleese for all I know. It's easier to make out details in the fucking Zapruder film.

Wait, I'm pretty sure that's some white guy in a black guy suit.

First time I saw Opie literally point out the obvious was here.

This entire thing was pretty embarrassing. I only made it to the 1:30 mark before I punched out.

Same here. I couldn't stand seeing the sheer number of overweight white males that consist of the O&A fan-base

Too man to take down his own pants, not man enough to move that pointer finger directly in Jim's anus.

No clue how he did that, I admire his talent

So weird to see people using actual cameras. A blast from the past.
3 buttriot 2014-08-02
His genius is always "subtle" isn't it? Odd how it doesn't come out obviously on the show or anything.

Opie Fucking Sucks.

That is the shit you continue to pay and support.
Expect alot more of that and worse when all the comics and guests dry out.

Asshole like Rihannas' mouth when Chris Brown was in a "bad mood!"
