It's fucking cheesy and tries to portray the show as "epic" and extreme, and it coincided with their half-assed reboot as a "media destination" and them pumping up the show for their 20-year anniversary.
They said it was satire, but it seemed like it was just as easily viewed as a big self-aggrandizing jerk-off session. Is it really good satire if you need to explain it as such?
I think it pretty accurately captures the way Opie thinks. The whole half tongue-in-cheek/half genuine "broadcasting's greatest duo" is the same thing as Opie going "God DAMN" after he thought Marlon Wayans was calling him a hero. As Sam put it, he's humbled, but it kinda made sense to him.
Definitely. It's along the same line of some of Gervais's comedy, he'll say something about how many awards he's won and how The Office is in syndication now so he's fucking loaded, but he'll do it in an overly arrogant and obviously joking way which makes everyone laugh - but at the same time if you think about it; he's kind of reminding you how successful he is, just in a funny way.
I think it's the worst intro the show has ever had. It isn't funny or catchy in any way. Previous intros have always made me laugh or got my attention somehow, the Murky Banks intro sucks dick.

I was always under the impression that it was satire. If it's not, I'm with you 100%.

"That's the bit"

There have been many great magic words, from abracadabra to open sesame, but none have had the sheer practical daily application as 'that's the bit.'

Always liked Keach's voice. The one thing that weirds me out though is how he says "wiffle ball-bats" instead of wiffleball bats.

Ha! I never noticed that and now, thanks to you, it will drive me nuts permanently.

Broadcasted. Is right, sounds retarded.

The what?

They don't even use it anymore. Who cares? I've never paid that much attention to an intro. It's not why I listen to the show.

Who cares about a lot of the topics here? It's just something to talk about.

Great point.
