It looks like Anthony had this idea for a long time. It makes sense when you look back to Opie's rants about SiriusXM and Ant was quiet for the majority of the time, like it didn't really matter.
Recently, when Opie referenced their 'bad-blood' (once or twice) like "Yeah, but we have been getting along lately, haven't we?" and Ant is says something like "uh, yeah, sure..."
From this interview and in hindsight, it seems like Ant was ready to go do his own thing for a while
