Opie calls Deadspin a great site.
24 2014-07-31 by [deleted]
This guy is such a fucking moron. Does he realize Deadspin (owned by Gawker and essentially the Gawker of sports) got Anthony fired? Deadspin is the most anti-free speech PC site around. It's everything the show hates. But he calls it a great site. He should call TMZ a great site too then.
Opie just talks out of his ass. Everything he says he just pulls out of the air. No research. Every music break. Politics.
If you're not going to be funny and are going to give the listeners douche chills several times per show at least have something of substance to say.
Edit: Pushed for Anthony to be fired. Sirius fired Anthony as we all know.

Opie, as much as he denies it, is happy Ant got fired. I honestly believe that. He probably thinks he can run things on his own, doesn't need Anthony, and will reach greater heights than he ever could being "tied down" to Ant. I have no doubt he will re-sign in October.
25 SHUT_UP_STUPID 2014-07-31
I would love to see him re-sign while Jimmy doesn't and see his shit show that would deserve a jocktober of it's own.
11 highflyin 2014-07-31
Opie has mentioned "next year" several times in passing. He plans on being back at SXM. He even said yesterday he has nowhere to go.
-1 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-07-31
If Jimmy didn't re-sign, I doubt Opie would either. Opie's re-signing probably hinges on Jimmy, Erock and Sam remaining with him. I doubt he'd try it alone without them.
5 SHUT_UP_STUPID 2014-07-31
Something tells me his inflated sense of self worth will encourage him to go at it without the gang.
Also even if he sucks it's the smart move to try and resign, HE'S GOT NO WHERE ELSE TO GO!!!!
1 Clown_Shoe 2014-07-31
I don't think he would do it alone. I think Jim resigns if he can but if for some reason he doesn't Opie won't move on without some comic.
8 KnickedUp 2014-07-31
Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling only themselves. Even Jimmy, deep down.....knows that Ant getting fired can possibly raise his pay by a zero if he plays his cards right. They have to say the right things...I understand that.
-2 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-07-31
That's the real reason Jimmy doesn't want his name in the title. Not until he gets paid.
7 Wsallgood 2014-07-31
Will Sirius even want them? If they do, I bet they lowball the shit out of them.
Opie will complain for a month and say it's ridiculous and disrespectful. And then sign on the dotted line like bitch. Like he always does.

Opie was probably bored of sleeping through all the niggermania, wackjob race rants.
I've enjoy the last two weeks of shows more than the last year of O&A. Anthony was the drunk uncle at thanksgiving. Hilarious and entertaining, but always ruined the night be acting creepy or throwing up on the turkey.

Seriously. The show isn't terrible now. But I just have no desire whatsoever to listen to it. And I didn't miss a show since 2007.

Why? He isn't dead. Go listen to his new show or LFTC.

I have no loyalty to Opie. I dont like him, I dont care what happens to him. I listened to the show for Anthony, Jim, and the guests. Whenever he chimed in with anything I distracted myself until he stopped.
He has a fake character on the show. The fact that he made that fake character be obnoxious shows me a great deal about his real personality. He seems to be uncomfortable in his skin, with a great deal of complexes. Every thing he does feels forced.
He is as irrelevant to me now, as he was before I ever heard of the opie and anthony show. I will follow to see what Anthony and Jim will do, but not Opie. The show is dead to me.

2 Phantas_Magorical 2014-07-31

14 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2014-07-31
Don't they live in the same building? With that kind of proximity there should be more stories of hanging out if they were good friends. I don't think they dislike each other or anything like that, but I think their relationship is mostly professional.
5 vxsarin 2014-07-31
Except he has a family I suspect he spends a lot of time with. You think they are just going to be WACKY all the time?
9 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2014-07-31
Yes, because having a family means your friends can no longer drop by.
1 vxsarin 2014-07-31
yes, but you are expecting wacky stories. If they just hang out, you'd be bored to death.
3 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-07-31
If it happened, they would at least have ever mentioned it.
1 nikolam 2014-07-31

-2 vxsarin 2014-07-31
If you've noticed, pretty much everyone on the show leaves their personal life at home and not on the show.

1 [deleted] 2014-07-31
It makes for better radio that they have separate lives. Shows have always worked like that. Do you think Howard hangs out with Robin after the show or did stuff with artie when he was around? No. My guess is even Ron and fez live pretty separate lives. And I think they're in nearby buildings but same neighborhood area.

41 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2014-07-31
Opie reminds me every day that he's a dunce. He has no real desire to understand the world around him on anything more than a superficial level and because of that he is an extremely uninteresting person. Jimmy is the same way, but at least he's funny. Ant may have been a dropout, but he was the only one on the show who had a zeal for learning and trying to figure out the complexities of the world.

Can I upvote this 400 more times? His children most likely have more books than he does. Opie is the kind of guy who doesn't read the news article in 45 seconds, he waits for the 2:30 video explaining the article to load.
People like Opie are the reason why my browser temporarily freezes when I want to read an article but there is a 30 second ad prefacing the 2:30 video.

The thing that really bugs me about Op is his interjection into stories with the "Trust me I'm good at this" line. Which really only serves to derail the story even further. I'm on my way to work Opie, let them fucking finish their story!

-6 huntersthom2 2014-07-31
It sound annoying when he says that, but he honestly pulls more out of someone when he does. A lot of guest jump straight to the punchline of the story, forgetting the setup. A story that can be told in 2 minutes, can be detailed in 10 minutes. He usually doesn't says that when he talking to someone who knows how to tell a story...like Jim Bruer recently. A story has a beginning, middle, and end.

When I tell all these narrow minded fucks, that they are perhaps mentally incapable of seeing what Opie does. I really assumed that the O and A fan base would be smarter than this. I have no idea what made me think that. Bobo is perhaps a good representation of the average fan's mental capacity.
0 megamays 2014-07-31
I totally agree with you that he contributes an enormous amount to the show. I just get annoyed when he does that particular thing.

Fair enough...if you'd entertain the idea of letting him grab you junk under certain conditions (namely: you being gay) you can't be all that bad.
Like I said it does come off as a bit pompous, but he's right. He knows what he's doing. If he just did it without saying that...most of these guys would never even realize it happened.

17 ashsmashers 2014-07-31
My favorite awkward Opie moment recently was when Soder was in and talking about how and and someone else Snapchat each other while shitting, then he started to explain the app and Opie's all like "no, I know what that is." Soder finishes the story and Op immediately asks "can we see the videos?" I don't hate Opie at all but he can be so frustrating.
-10 FJaxJones 2014-07-31
You can send videos through snapchat
14 cheeznuts 2014-07-31
If he knew what Snapchat was then he should have known that Snapchat deletes the shit like 10 seconds or something after you've seen it. So unless Soder had videos that he hadn't yet viewed, those videos were already long gone.
3 Ricktron3030 2014-07-31
Can't you save them before you send them? He could have videos of himself.
2 ashsmashers 2014-07-31
You're right you can save your own videos after you record them, I didn't think of that. Now I'm enjoying the thought of Dan Soder walking around with a cell phone full of 10 second videos of himself shitting haha.
15 [deleted] 2014-07-31
Sadly, he already has called TMZ a great site. They posted his camel toe video on their site and he thanked and complimented them on twitter and on air.

I've seen the fans posting stories by Deadspin, Jezebel, Kotaku, i09, Gizmodo and all the rest online. People just have no fucking clue all of these social justice faggots are dangerous.
I didn't hear this, but if they're still using Gawker stories on the show, they should all be fucking ashamed.
11 [deleted] 2014-07-31
I hate when he tosses off dumb shit like that. I love when they had Greg Sestero in studio from The Room, and Opie claimed "I think I watched like half of it." Really? How do you watch "half" of the The Room? It's only 90 minutes long. And even if you watched half, you would absolutely remember all the stupid things you saw in it. Just fucking say you never saw it.
3 charlie_bronson 2014-07-31
I think in his post kids watching movie math that 45 minutes he watched was 3 hours and 16 minutes.
-8 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-07-31
What the hell are you talking about, friend?
3 regis69 2014-07-31
He probably just saw the clips Ant played on the air. He has no knowledge of anything but still tries to keep up like he knows what's going on. The things Anthony and Jimmy have said on the air magically become Opie's opinions on later shows. He still is talking about the one book he read, Mike Tyson's autobiography, and he consistently says to the guests the EXACT same things Jim said about the book 6 months before Opie read it.
10 dankfranklin 2014-07-31
I'm sure it's because at one point in the past 5 years, Deadspin retweeted him or included one of his stupid videos on a pointless list.

9 Crackin_Claws 2014-07-31
To be fair, there are people here that don't realize that they are related.
5 [deleted] 2014-07-31

Minihane is a hack.
-2 LittleMissCurbstomp 2014-07-31
"Writing about something that happened, thus it gathers slightly more national attention" is the new "calling for his head".
4 LittleMissCurbstomp 2014-07-31
You could easily visit Deadspin on a daily basis, only click on stories related to major sports you care about, and never realize they are within the Gawker family. Up until a few a years ago, their posts were very author-centric. When they first started, it was essentially written entirely by one person, with no integration of Gawker's other sites at all.
-2 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-07-31
How would I know / why would I care unless I visited those websites regularly?
I've never been to either of them and doubt I'll ever have cause to.
7 LittleMissCurbstomp 2014-07-31
Gawker's new editor in 2012 shifted the focus of the site away from editorial content and more toward what he described as "traffic-whoring" and "SEO bomb-throws." Deadspin's editorial content remained pretty much the same it always has during this period. It is possible not to conflate the two. This is like is getting mad at Opie for saying he's a big fan of Law and Order: SVU despite the fact Al Sharpton is on MSNBC. "The networks are owned by the same people!"
4 CoolerKing37 2014-07-31
Except Deadspin has the same exact PC mentality that Gawker has just with a sports theme. It's more like hating NBC the company, but loving MSNBC.

If someone got mad at someone for complimenting Fox Sports because of something Fox News had done, they would be an idiot.
4 [deleted] 2014-07-31
My point is that Deadspin targets people for what they say, Opie bashes people / sites who target people for what they say, then calls Deadspin, a site which targets people for what they say "a great site." That's my point.
-1 HeyBuddays 2014-07-31
your point stinks
-3 LittleMissCurbstomp 2014-07-31
Do they really "target" people, or do they report that something controversial was said? In your example, a well-known radio host called a well-known sports sideline reporter a "gutless bitch". Her employer (Fox) removed all of their advertising from his employer's 100+ radio stations. That's a big story. There was no call to boycott or fire the guy by Deadspin, all they did was say "look what this idiot said--we think he's dumb".
3 CoolerKing37 2014-07-31
They're like Media Matters or any watchdog group. Complain about every little thing someone on radio or tv said that they happen to disagree with.
One thing's for sure, they aren't exactly rallying to defend those that ARE getting called to be fired for what they say.

To say they're the Media Matters of sports is flat out wrong. Sure, they point out when sports reporters and columnists say dumb things, and they have their favorite blowhard targets like Rick Reilly and Skip Bayless (not for PC reasons but because they think they stink at their jobs), but that's such a limited part of what the site is. Look at the past 30 stories on the site:
Look at all those PC takedown stories by the liberal media cabal!
4 CookieHaid 2014-07-31
Nice list, Ope.
2 CoolerKing37 2014-07-31
Well not EVERY article is going to be a takedown. Shit, even FOX News and MSNBC take a break from their usual narratives and talk about useless pop culture shit.
0 LittleMissCurbstomp 2014-07-31
Whereas Media Matters literally only writes about media figures saying offensive/incorrect things. People are acting as if Deadspin's only function is to be the unbearable social justice police, because one of their dozens of contributors writes one article they disagree with every couple of months or so. Deadspin posts an article about WJFK advertising Chad Duke's new show by posting a bunch of old clips featuring Chad Dukes saying "fag", and this subreddit idiotically screeches that they're trying to get a radio host fired, even though the article very clearly points out that they're writing about the radio station obviously not having listened to the clips beforehand: "There's no year given, but, it's an awfully hard listen in 2014. The takeaways from the vintage segment are: 1) Times have changed, and 2) nobody at WJFK vetted the clip before posting it. It's full of dated meanness and homophobic slurs that nobody—on air or off—uses for cheap giggles anymore." Call the writer too PC if you're a big fan of epithets, but no one's calling for Dukes' head--they very clearly point out that they are old clips, and not that big a deal at the times they were said. Deadspin writes a lot about media failing to do their jobs well--from plagiarism, to not attributing sources, to not making sense (old guard writers mocking sabermetrics), to being complete hacks (Rick Reilly). If someone swears on ESPN, they'll post the video. Not to get people fired, but because it's mildly interesting.
1 Spokker 2014-07-31
They report on the controversy, and then go back and find past incidents to fuel the controversy even more.
Deadspin went into Stephen A. Smith's past and found other comments he made about domestic violence to further fan the flames of Internet outrage. That's what Gawker did to Anthony. Past incidents didn't catch fire on their own, but they might if we attach them to this current controversy.
So it can be argued that there is an agenda there.
0 LittleMissCurbstomp 2014-07-31
But there's actual context with Stephen A. Smith and Deadspin. This isn't just pouncing in the one mistake he's ever made. They've always written about dumb things he said. Probably hundreds of articles. Because he's a buffoonish, terrible broadcaster.
1 CoolerKing37 2014-07-31
But they took Smith out of context. Calling him a supporter of domestic violence when that's not at all what he said.
1 LittleMissCurbstomp 2014-07-31
Nnnnnope. They never said anything of the sort. They just took him to task for saying (very clumsily) that woman need to not provoke their own beatings. I just read every word they printed on the matter, and they never come close to accusing him of supporting domestic violence. They always were talking about his provocation remarks:
They're just saying what every other media outlet said--he said something very clumsily. It's like if when Kobe Bryant was under suspicion of rape, Smith had done a monologue about about woman need to not put themselves in a position to be raped. Sure, it's technically good-hearted advice to the women of the world, but it's essentially putting blame on the victim of a crime. And if he was trying to use code words to say that Rice's fiancee had been attacking him prior to his punch, he needs to come right out and say it--It just sounded like "What do you expect a man to do when you're annoying him?"
1 CoolerKing37 2014-07-31
I agree that it was clumsily spoken and he should've just said another word entirely or be more specific without a code word. I guess I'm more annoyed by the "outrage" of the comment from the media in general and the whole "he's condoning wife beating and is blaming the victim" when he obviously wasn't doing that.
But I must concede to you, sir, you have made valid points and convinced me of your previous argument regarding Deadspin. Salute.

Smith is a real talker.
-4 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-07-31
Good point.
Scared deleted faggot, thoughts?
6 rsWhittington 2014-07-31
When he said kettle chips today in his signature "funny" way, I actually clenched my teeth. "Chipssss.....hahaha, oh no, I'm giddy today". all the while completely ignoring Jimmy Chiping it up.
5 CookieHaid 2014-07-31
Yep...he's quite obviously ignoring Chip and other Jimmy Gold.

Opie never "gets" any silly bits. He can't roll with it.

Gregg Hughes on the other hand is a pretty cool dude...
5 BottleOfAon 2014-07-31
He must have meant meatspin.
4 smithjosh 2014-07-31
Gawker Media revolves around Nick Denton and his political ideology. Deadspin is what happens when Brooklyn hipster 'bags who oddly enjoy sports have a blog.
Opie is a fucking idiot.
3 Wsallgood 2014-07-31
Opie is a man-child. He stopped maturing around 19. If you listen to him in that context, it all makes sense.
2 voneahhh 2014-07-31
Sirius XM are the ones who actually took action and fired Ant, the same company that owns and is running the show you're listening to.
Can you see why one might like Deadspin but not necessarily Gawker?

0 JCPatrick 2014-07-31
To be fair, Travis was also saying how great Deadspin is.
0 iaknet 2014-07-31
Can we get a comprehensive list of anti-free speech sites to avoid? It would be really helpful and we could probably tweet it to Op and Jim.
-2 HeyBuddays 2014-07-31
every site that isn't breitbart, infowars or fox news...
0 mr__hat 2014-07-31
I love how angry "we" are at Deadspin now. Even though it was this very subreddit that started "calling out ant's bullshit story" first.
Watch out for the SJW's maaaaaaan! Little fucking flip-flop-trend-of-the-day shits.

Deadspin and Gawker didn't get Anthony fired, Anthony got Anthony fired. Stop being a dope.
11 [deleted] 2014-07-31
Well we're both wrong. Sirius got Anthony fired.
If Gawker and Gawker-types didn't report and analyze his tweets and call for fake outrage though, there would still be an Opie and Anthony Show.
2 pabben1 2014-07-31
Wrong again! Sirius fired ant. Ant got himself fired, though.

Maybe he doesn't have the same views on things that you do. He's more of a MSNBC guy...
(and he doesn't like cocks in his mouth and/or asshole)

Except when he still talks about defending Imus 7 years later. Or gets mad when people get fired / suspended for something they say...

If he knew what Snapchat was then he should have known that Snapchat deletes the shit like 10 seconds or something after you've seen it. So unless Soder had videos that he hadn't yet viewed, those videos were already long gone.
