The show has been amazing recently.

Opie thrives off chaos, much like Tony Soprano. He does his best when the pressure's on, and the odds are stacked against him. Things got too cozy, too predictable, too repetitive before the firing. Now their show is under a new light, and every day is interesting. I think Ant's firing has been a blessing in disguise. Two shows, both fresh and exciting, not one stale singular show.

I disagree. I think if these last two weeks have taught us anything, it's that O&A is at its absolute best with strong comics sitting in every day. Not who gives a shit celebrities to justify Roland's job.

With a few exceptions I have skipped every celeb interview and UFC is an instant "look to see how much time is left then turn it off if it's obvious they'll be going to the end"

Makes me wonder what will happen when the comics they have been parading through stop showing up. They are there for the show now because of the firing, but in a few weeks, will we still see them? The flip side are they looking for a replacement and rebranding come October?

Nice try, Opie.

yuck

A couple of good shows a couple of bad ones and a couple of mixed. I think the good ones are just as good w/out Ant however the bad ones are worse because they don't have Ant's comedic brilliance as a crutch.

I give Opie credit for getting all the comedians in that he has, thus far. He realized he needed folks who could carry the show and he did what he needed to do to keep the show rolling at a decent pace short term.

Having said that, I just don't bother listening anymore. Opie just isn't good radio and the hole left by Ant becomes more and more apparent as time goes on. The show is truly dead.

I hope they are able to get something together down the road, but as far as The Opie and Jim show goes.. Unless there is something compelling going on, I'm done.

What a shite way for it all to end... fuck XM.

Alright. Legitimate opie review, sounds like.

I agree with the too cozy part before the firing, but do you think Opie has "stepped up" really?

I liked the show because of the laughs and it all falls on Jimmy (and the comedians) now. When there are no comedians, Jimmy will have a line or two that makes me laugh. This would usually lead to Ant making a joke, then back to Jim...This is where some of the best bits came from.

Jimmy has no back and forth with Opie. They haven't changed the format. Opie is still steering the ship while Jim makes jokes (his best riffs come from making his friends laugh & Opie is too busy moving conversation), but there is no Anthony to bridge the two personalities. So the show is focused on guests/comedians whenever possible. I miss O&A

Anthony bridging the two personalities is spot on

You're right. Opie sucks.

Opie doesn't suck, as much as he just doesn't have any chemistry with Jimmy. They're friends, but they don't hang out, they have nothing in common, and Jimmy doesn't seem to care about trying to crack him up, like he did with Anthony. Maybe that will develop. Maybe it won't. They seem to be afraid of going too far busting each other's balls, that's for sure.

I don't agree that he's stepped up, however. I think he's keeping everything afloat, which is admirable, all things considered, but the show is a bare skeleton of what it used to be. No bits. No cringe humor. No attacking guests, friends, the media, or the pests. Even Bobo is minimized now. No interns. All they do is talk about YouTube clips Sam dredges up or copies off Gawker, or they let the guests run the show.

There really is no "show". How would you describe the show? "Two guys sit in a studio, watch TV and Youtube clips, and occasionally have guests". Not real compelling radio there, and not exactly cutting edge.

If everyone is honest, they'll admit to what I did after Ant got fired - I'm more upset that my daily habit of the show is over, than being upset at the lack of any real content on the show, so Opie's attempt to prop up our habit is seen as some sort of victory. The reality is, the way it looks, especially with Opie's reliance on Sam, is that I will become a VERY casual listener in the future, Ant's show included. My habit of listening every day, which I've enjoyed doing for a long time, is over. I'll replace it.

I just don't see the "stepping up" part. What I see is Opie trying to bail out a boat that has a truck sized hole in the side of it. Kudos for that, but compared to what the show was...I think by October we'll be begging him to do the right thing and put what's left of the show out of it's misery.

Good for you.

You know who would make a good third mic.DAN SODER

shut up. opie sucks and we all know it.

Yeah, I thought it might be cool to see him suck in a different dynamic, but it's not. He's just terrible anytime, anyway, anywhere.

Fuck you go crawl down a missile crater outside Israel and get sodomized by Hamaz savages.

Is this a Danny poe account comparing Op to Tony Soprano? Jesus Christ....

You're an easily amused faggot. Ant was the glue that held O&A together when they didn't have comics to help keep the show funny and entertaining. Since they came back only two shows have been actually funny and entertaining, the show with Pete Rose, and the first day of Just for Laughs. It's mediocre on most days. It's listenable but it's the only thing worth a shit in the morning. The channel is in the worst shape it's been in ever as well. No decent replays, Opie cutting to shitty songs to fill time..... etc etc.
