I really like this iteration of the show with Jimmy and Opie and am excited to hear it evolve.

I really like the shows I have been hearing and would love O&J to move forward with it. For the past year I have been getting a little tired of both HSS and O&A, at least Anthony's vitriol. It used to be a great edge to the show, but it had seemed to amp up a lot to the point they regularly burned half hours of air at a time with Rush Limbaugh style radio. I stopped listening regularly as a result. I hope they keep going with it and Opie makes Jim a full partner. I like it, and I think they can turn it into something new and great.

What exactly are you excited about? Take all of the comics away from this past couple of weeks - what has Opie done that excites you?

Good question. I agree about the legions of comics being a saving grace, but essentially I am looking forward to something new. The Jimmy/Opie dynamic is working for me. Even though they haven't done anything amazing yet - but they haven't tanked either. They are pros with good infrastructure, good connections for guests, a renewed energy. They are starting fresh with a lot going for them. If Opie lights a fire under his ass, it could turn into a totally new show. If he keeps going as they were, it will be a slow death. Even having comics on to this scale seems like an approach they haven't taken in a few years.

Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree. When it is just Opie & Jimmy by themselves, it is dead air, uncomfortable transitions, stepping on each other - basically a lot of nothing. I see nothing positive. And certainly not anything fresh or energized.

I don't disagree exactly, I might be wishful thinking a lot of the energy. The days they were alone together without dozens of the funniest comics in the country as guests were pretty sad days for them though, only a single week after Ant left wasn't it? So we are probably both a little premature. I do think they have an opportunity and I am optimistic they can do something good with it.

Tl;dr: I am looking forward to something new from some experienced pros. I haven't heard it yet, but I also haven't heard any reason to doubt it could happen.

It's funny how quick the tune of this sub changed.
A few weeks ago Opie was the worst thing to happen to the show and now everyone appreciates him.

talk for yourself, opie and jim are nada without their 'high profile' comedian guests. opie alone doesn't have the talent to carry 3h and jimmy's mind is elsewhere most of the time.
credit to opie for being realistic and filling the room with comedians to recapture some of the xm-day spirit. obviously the fans appreciate that, but he has literally no other cards in his sleeves. it's all about youtube or music breaks otherwise, sprinkling in some lady di and bobo, if necessary. the guests make the show now.

Glad to hear it, but it doesn't seem like it to me, not in this little thread and not in the subreddit. Seems like a lot of bashing the current show and only discussing Ant. It ain't there yet, but O&J might turn in to something great too.

Is there a subreddit for people that like the (current) show?

Ant leaving was the best thing to happen to the show.

Same here. The show is great without that anchor Anthony holding it back with his big mouth. Before anyone says anything this has nothing to do with politics.

It doesn't have anything to do with politics? That's hard to tell with your username.

most people are too cowardly to admit this but Ant haters hate him for his politics.
-3 suaveitguy 2014-07-29
I liked that about him. I didn't agree most of the time, but it gave the show a good energy and kept it from being an exercise in group-think. I loved hearing his well spoken POV, but I didn't like hearing him yell it with no balance besides uncomfortable chuckling.

this was my point
-4 suaveitguy 2014-07-29
I didn't hate him though, and not for his politics. I liked him for his politics even though I didn't always agree. I got tired of his newer style/approach.

I don't believe you.

O&A&J were great, but then they weren't and then they changed.
2 Antoby 2014-07-29
because ant said stuff you disagree with. If he was the same guy but ranting lefty crap you would love him.
1 suaveitguy 2014-07-29
That would be at least as hard to take, probably more.
