Podcasts similar to Opie and Anthony?
5 2014-07-25 by jakeyp
I think this topic has been posted in this thread before, but I wanted to throw it out their again to see if their are any new leads: what podcasts do you guys listen to that are similar to O&A?
For some reason, I can't really get into a lot of the friends of show podcasts that are constantly talked about. (e.g. Bob Kellys show contains a bunch of people talking over one another, I can't get into just one dude talking to him self like Jim Florentine or Bill Burr). I'm more interested in podcasts in the O&A format then those that happen to have O&A guests.
I was wondering if anyone on this sub listened to any other guys-shooting-the-shit (yuck) style podcasts that are similar in vein to O & A.
A good example of the type of show that I've gotten into recently is called [Jim and Them(http://www.jimandthem.com/) which is based out of NV.

There is no other O&A. They are unique. Sorry.

Race Wars w/ Kurt Metzger and Sherrod Small

Sherrod is loud, poorly-timed, obnoxious and usually unfunny.

Did they talk about the Anthony situation at all?
1 VeritablyClean 2014-07-25
They did, it was either last episode or the one before that. They have some good points, it was a good listen

The Anthony Cumia Show

I've been looking for the same and tried just about all the regular suggestions - nothing has really held my interest.

O&A cannot compare to podcasts. The quality of their product buries any podcast. Period! (Opie reference). Having said that, Norm Macdonald's is the best around atm. Im all in with him (Opie reference). Robert Kelly's YKWD also seems to be doing very well (Opie reference). For some reason the Nerdist Podcast puts up good numbers (Opie reference), although they are too kind and pleasant for a cynic like myself.

Norm is beyond awesome. Racewars is great, and Talkin Shit with Jim and Eddie was great before Jefferies booked Legit and left.

I like your style

Big Jay Oakerson's Legion of Skanks http://cavecomedyradio.com/legionofskanks
i've listened to a handful of older eps and they're all great. i think episode 93 - Dorothy was the one with a good patrice story.

Masters of None. 3 ex-radio hosts started podcasting back in the early days of podcasting. They're always talking about beer, women, and movies. They interview stars like Weird Al and Biz Markie. Most importantly of all, all three of them are huge fans of Opie and Anthony and classic Stern. They got me into this shit to begin with, and they'll always have a special place in my heart. They made a website called "porninthewoods.com" and they actually talked about it on the O&A Show. It was an amazing experience listening to these three nerds freak out about being on the O&A! I highly recommend their "Worst Christmas Songs" episode and anything "Underrated, Rated, Overrated".

Tuesdays with stories with joe list and mark normand, legion of skanks, norm McDonald, moonlighting with sam morrill can be a bit hit and miss, doug Stanhope, ykwd and mike bocchetti has one which is a train wreck

Rogan's podcast was inspired by O&A, but it's not like it, guy said it above me, nothing is like them

Rogans podcast had more of that vibe starting out but he's slowly sort of changed his format. Go back and listen to some older episodes like 1-300 and some of the ice house shows he did have an O&A comic vibe to it but Rogans podcast has definitely changed for the worse I think.

The Gary and Dino Show.
Basically Gary boozes the whole show, Dino is popping oxycontin, the whole thing is a beautiful clusterfuck.

I found out about Doug Stanhope's podcast from a comment here a few weeks ago.
Really liking it. He is still funny but can also get serious enough when he's interviewing his guests.

Is his show riddled with weed references every 5 seconds? His shtick is just as old as Snoops for me.
2 Flamgirlant 2014-07-25
Are you thinking of Doug Benson? Stanhope doesn't smoke weed and he's fucking brilliant.
3 Phantas_Magorical 2014-07-25
I'm fucking dumb
1 Flamgirlant 2014-07-25
Haha no worries. You should check out stanhope if you aren't familiar. He's one of the best and a youtube search of "Doug Stanhope full" will give you a few of his specials.
1 Phantas_Magorical 2014-07-25
Ill check him out, thanks man

Talkin shit with Eddie ifft. Soon to become the bingle bus
2 Happy_ScrappyHeroPup 2014-07-25
I've only listened to the old shows before Jim left. Has Eddie talked about any possibility of Jim coming back now that Legit wasn't renewed?

You Know What Dude seems the most similar in structure and guest line up
1 Derpese_Simplex 2014-07-25
Too many mics active at once. They just talk over each other.
0 chris2webby 2014-07-25
Adam Carolla's show is similar in that they aren't afraid to say anything and they discuss news topics, but ADAM WONT SHUT UP FOR ONE FUCKING MINUTE TO LET ANYONE ELSE TALK

The Broken Show Podcast
0 fullpowerattack 2014-07-25
The Beige Phillip Show hits close to Black Phillip.
Dante Nero tries his best to carry the Patrice torch. And he often succeeds, despite his weak male co-host and awful third mic hole (her POV is fine, but her laugh is piercing and awful).
To Dante's credit, he was a guest on Black Phillip and his view on relationships is directly in line with Patrice.

Our Big Dumb Mouth on iTunes. Start at episode 145
-2 ToothGnasher 2014-07-25
If you're into movies, a lot of people here (myself included) are huge fans of the guys at http://redlettermedia.com/
-2 dickroach 2014-07-25
Bob Kelly's "You Know What Dude" is 100% "guys-shooting-the-shit"
-2 [deleted] 2014-07-25
Nothing really compares to O&A...
but The Brilliant Idiots (it's 2man setup since you don't like solo)
is a really good podcast. You should check it out. Has comedy mixed with harsh realism that O&A does.
here's my favorite episode http://podbay.fm/show/862717788/e/1397517540?autostart=1
they're also new(came out in April) s it shouldn't be hard to catch all the episodes if you end up liking it.

This American Life
2 [deleted] 2014-07-25
Great show but nothing like Opie and Anthony.
0 freeponyrides 2014-07-25
They both started in the mid-nineties.
1 [deleted] 2014-07-25
It's like comparing wu tang to bands like green day because they both started in the 90's but have absolutely nothing in common with each other except it's music. The only thing o&a have in common with this American life is that there both radio shows. That's it. Otherwise there is nothing similar about either show. Starting in the same decade doesn't make the shows comparable.
0 freeponyrides 2014-07-25
They both have stories.
1 [deleted] 2014-07-25
Yeah and green day and the wu tang clan both have lyrics. What's your fucking point stupid?
0 freeponyrides 2014-07-25
They both have hosts.

Just listen to Maron

If you like O&A, you might like our show, Lookin GOOD Radio. (Avail on Itunes) Although it's slowly devolving into a therapy session where my roommate just complains about things & expects that to be "entertainment;" I'm gonna have to straighten him out soon. Two episodes ago I tell the story of going to Ant's house, and I swear way WAY too much in it. Anyway check it out if you're bored www.lookingoodradio.com Word LIFE

1 [deleted] 2014-07-25
Got it, cool guy.
1 [deleted] 2014-07-25
Do you always promote your show this well?
1 [deleted] 2014-07-25
Im creatively frustrated. I feel like he's the Opie to my Ant, in a way.
