I really enjoyed it. I actually laughed out loud many times in the monologue which never happens when i watch a network talk show. Screw the haters, I hope this show continues.
Bailey saying, "My balls are getting stuck" is what made me laugh the most. Otherwise, Jimmy really needs to just relax and he definitely needs to tone down the insecurity. Self deprecating humor can be fun when people like Conan O'Brien does it because you know he's confident on stage and with his audience. With Jimmy, you can tell like he feels like he doesn't deserve the show and that he feels like a nothing. This really is his time to shine and finally break away from just being the 3rd mic on Opie and Anthony and that guy who was on Louie a few times. His show really has a lot of potential as long as he gets more comfortable in his role.
Yup, too self conscious. It is sorta endearing, but also sorta overdone.
His thing can't be "oh I'm so vulgar most people don't like me," because i think we're a more open society now (esp vice audience) and lots of people already like him.
Edit: Take it back. I just got to the end. He did a good job.
Is anyone really shocked by her? I like her but don't want it to become a reason to make tranny jokes every fuckin episode. He did a good job though. That golf question was out of left field.
The fucked up thing is it actually would be pretty edgy if it were on nbc or cbs. But he did it on the internet so he may as well of not even done it at all, other than the fact Jim is really good friends with the guy and probably wanted to give him a gig.
I don't understand the appeal; not because of the obvious, but because she's not even a good looking tranny - she's got the weirdest fuckin face and still has a manish body. What's the deal?
Wow, I didn't expect the condescension...I obviously understand that people have different tastes, and I wouldn't be confused if there were a few guys who found him attractive, but the fact that he is regarded as a tranny god by basically everyone who's heard of him doesn't seem to be warranted due to his squinty eyes that are too far apart on that plastic alien-mask face. Is there something I'm missing is all I wanted to know.
He's not directing that stuff at people who know him. We will watch regardless. People who aren't familiar with the O and A show (and even people like me who just started listening a few months ago) are going to laugh at and appreciate his self deprecating humor just like you did before you listened to 100+ hours of it.
Reminds me of the last season of Louie where david lynch spends three episodes trying to teach Louie the finer points of a late night talk show, Yet the whole time Louie thinks it old hat and stupid.
He's funny but the insecurity is exhausting. Soder has good vibes, Jimmy has negative ones. He's the kind of guy you don't want to hang out with. "Yeah, man...anyways, I gotta get going..."
I'm hoping that this being a series will help with that. I do think he has some insecurities he feels he needs to address whenever he's on stage or on camera - like how so many fat comics have to mention something right away about how they're fat.
But with Vice I'm hoping he can get most of it out of the way in this episode and move forward.
I like it. Although he did push the "unlike other talkshows" idea too much, it actually is the most positive aspect of the show. Jim is a good host too.
Watch it on mute and focus on his eyes. He gets all bug eyed trying not to blink before finally quickly blinking like four times in a row. It's the strangest thing.
He's always too awkward any time I see him on camera, even his standup I dont watch. Maybe I'm just used to radio Jim. What he should do is get with Anthony Bourdain and take what ever he's on to calm his ass down.
"If you can smell your dick underwater" was the best line.
I also laughed sooo hard at Lil' Jimmy and his water pitcher and the fact he has to serve his guests water.
It would be cool if he could get some music guests (NOT PFG style Legs Zeppelin*, Or anything Kiss or Ozzy related) or comics to come do 5 min sets, but that may be too stereotypical talk show.
Idk, I really liked it all in all and hope he gets a good shot at developing it further
I thought this was pretty bad but I still have hope. Have you ever seen any of the early letterman or conan shows? They are dog shit, you have to give the little fucker time.
Is there anyway to watch Vice videos on ROKU or playstation platforms? Seems like that could be a good route for them to go an have a similar network like WWE or MLB.
He didn't have to get an education or be intelligent when he was making millions at 19. Religion and his wife helped calm him down. That's why Dana white was there at the same time as mike. To make mike less akward.
On Rogans podcast, Jimmy explains how he went to long, an hour and 20. Which is well over the 30 minutes he was supposed to. So they had to cut about 20 minutes of footage which he was happy with considering they let him go double what was initially set. He said he wished he had thought to do place markers to make it easier for cuts. That might be why there are some weird cuts.
I wish him luck but even before the quiz I knew this show wasn't for me. I actually felt depressed by the first ten minutes the same way I did watching Auto-Focus or Bill Saddler's scene in Kinsey. I guess I'm a prude.
Tyson made it a little bit awkward. Episode 2 (not part 2 of episode 1) is amazing since his guests are all comedians. Don't judge the show by just this episode.
Yea Dana and Tyson is kind of a tough interview for your first time out there. Comedians would be much more easy for Jimmy, I mean, "Do you golf?" That was more awkward than Larry King interviewing the skateboarder.
i liked it, the monologue was pure and utter shit, he seemed so out of his element, but the interview was great, it had a slow and awkward start but then it sped up and Jimmy relaxed into it
Not bad. I didn't have high hopes to begin with though, I'll definitely check out part two. Fuck sandy kane though, why did he let her be associated with his show :/

Was referring to the "on the show and in every interview ever" part. I haven't had a chance to watch this yet, but if wasn't implying he wasn't funny.
It's just that when you constantly point out your flaws, it's not funny anymore after a while. That's what I meant.

Yeah, he really is his own worst enemy, and a real drain. I don't think I've ever been as bummed out while laughing at something.
Somebody needs to tell him he doesn't need to constantly point out how weird and awkward he is; he can just be weird and awkward, and get on with it.
1 Flamgirlant 2014-07-23
I'm hoping that this being a series will help with that. I do think he has some insecurities he feels he needs to address whenever he's on stage or on camera - like how so many fat comics have to mention something right away about how they're fat.

I know you posted this 7 hours ago but if you're still looking for the answer: With Roku, you can access Vice through Plex Channel on Roku: http://blog.roku.com/blog/2014/04/16/how-to-maximize-your-plex-experience-on-your-roku-player/
Once you add the Plex channel on Roku you'll add the Vice channel on Plex and this will allow you to watch Vice on Roku.
