Quick analysis of the financial feasibility of The Cumia Show.

Had a few spare minutes so I thought I would try to break it down. All figures are the absolute minimum I think are realistic based on various factors:

7,000 paying subscribers= $50,000/m

Advertising sponsors= 3 per show at $1000avge=$3000 (x4 shows a week is $48,000/m)

Miscl Revenue (merch, itunes, iphone app, etc)= $20,000/m

Minimum total is $118,000/m or $1,400,000/year.

Some things to keep in mind. These are the figures from the start. As the listener base increases the advertising revenue will be much higher. 4 shows a week gives plenty of room for it. If the audience grows into even a small percentage of the OandAshow, he can start to release partial shows (or highlights) for free and get $ from cpms on various platforms.

Or to put it another way. If Rogan is making 11k per episode, there is no reason Anthony cant match that at the very least. If that is the case then the revenue is actually higher and sits at $2,110,000/y.

Considering Anthony's mortgage is $20,000/m, I think this is sustainable for him and leaves a lot of upside growth potential if the above is the worse case/minimum scenario.

Anybody sees any flaws with the above?

Edit: If it wasnt already clear, this is revenue, not profit.

The biggest source of revenue for most podcasters is Amazon's associate program.

Yes! and thats why the misc number I used was so high. For things like this.

I'll suck your dick if he even has 5k paid subs.

Its a deal!

Miscl Revenue (merch, itunes, iphone app etc)= $20,000/m

That was a bit of a leap.

16 shows a month, plus occasional specials leaves a lot of opportunity to monetize. I think its reasonable.

...this figure includes the cpms of those that dont subscribe

I don't see the cost of doing business factored into this anywhere.

Bandwith is exceedingly expensive, the profit per t-shirt is only a dollar or two per shirt (not $20), presumably staff is getting paid something.

Your numbers are a bit silly.

This is just revenue, not profit. It would be too difficult to calculate overhead in a realistic way. The numbers I used are based on other somewhat similar shows.

You're assuming a lot of numbers here.

A good percentage of people, like /u/DugoutDoug, will find a way to watch the show for free.

Also, 20k in merch / apps a month?

merch,apps, misc

Edit: And yes its assumptions, but realistic ones and conservative. 7k subscribers is conservative for example. There will probably be 50-100k listeners, so assuming 7% of them pay for the premium is not unrealistic. The advertising rates are also conservative based on what other podcasts charge.

It took Leykis three years to get to 1,500 subs.

You're overestimating people's willingness to pay for shit they can get for free.

If Ant has a thousand subscribers in the first year I'll be surprised.

too low. After 3 days his show's twitter alone has nearly 10,000 followers. His shows facebook is already at ~14,000. He alone has 175,000+ followers on his personal twitter. His total fanbase from the OnadA show is a 1,000,000+. I would be very very surprised if he cant reach 7000 paying subscribers from the beginning. The total audience will be much higher, and that is where the misc revenue comes in.

Nassau county has the highest taxes in the country. This is an expensive hobby for Cumia that will not give him enough bread to continue his lifestyle. I can't wait to listen for free

There are very simple and efficient ways to minimize tax burden for business. trust me.

$1000 per sponsor for a 7000 listenership is very unrealistic. There will be no sponsors.
