I've noticed a distinct reduction in caller abuse on the O&J show

In moments when the caller would be mocked and ridiculed, Opie has been saying "Sorry, go ahead." I kind of like it. The show feels more listener-interactive.

Callers were never an integral portion of O&A (unlike, for example, Ron and Zero Fez)

On O&A, callers are just something to fill dead time, answer occasional questions, and be subjects of ridicule.

The last few days has been different because Opie is struggling to figure out how he's going to fill 3 hours of show with just the two of them and the callers eat time.

There were so few good callers to O&A that they knew most of them by name. How many times did they have to groan angrily because some asshole said "B-b-b-boysssss"? Ugh. Fuck the callers.

Ant hated the callers, when it was a Nopie show, he rarely took a call.

Still some of my favorite moments were:

Opie: Hang on we have a caller on the line

Caller: Hi it's Bobo

Insert collective groan...Opie laughs like a schoolgirl...

I think you're right...

On their second show back, a semi-drunk guy called in and started complaining that Opie & Jim were happy about the situation. He must have stepped on the boys 20 times during the 15 min. convo. Each time I was expecting Opie to say, "Hey dickhead - it's my show. Let me speak." Just like he's done countless times in the past.

Instead, it seemed like he and Jim made a huge effort to let the rambling buffoon give his take.

I don't expect it to last long. The show was never really built on callers. If anything, they enjoyed hanging out with the listeners at events more than taking their calls.

Yeah I think it's a good move

Fuck the callers, they are not why anybody listens to the show and they do nothing but make it less entertaining. Why anybody would call up is beyond me.

Actually the callers when they were doing the shining bit were really good

That last guy was an asshole.

Ant was the one who hated callers in general.

I think Opie just knows that most of the callers are upset about this whole situation so he's giving them a pass for right now.

strangely enough, Anthony seems like he's been way nicer to the fans recently on twitter.

We need that caller abuse back, badly

Its their first week without Ant, wouldn't be surprised is opie is a little self concious about being disliked by fans right now.

Of course - if Opie starts acting normal again, toward the callers, people will think of him as a traitor and he'll become a target. Hopefully this has helped them respect the callers more, at least for a little while.

Race traitor!!
