"You're losing listeners everyday. This isn't interesting. It's not engaging. This is a hostage situation for people who don't have a smart phone."

Anyone see last night's episode of Maron where he tears into the hack radio DJs after they trash his podcast on air?
"This is a hostage situation for people who don't have a smart phone". Great line. Marc knows better than anyone that radio is dead.

Marons show is great.. I really liked the couple cat episodes earlier this season.
Just got tickets to see Amy Schumer, Maron and Burr late August... Amazing line up

Amy Schumer in an amazing line up.

I get it; it's because Amy Schumer is a woman who tells sex jokes, right?

No, it's because she's unfunny and obnoxious.

This applies to most of radio, with the big boys (Howard, O&A and whoever is big in sports talk in big cities) being the exception.

As long as there are cars, and people trapped in them, radio won't die.

Technology is advancing. Every car you buy these days has bluetooth technology allowing you to sink up your smart phone to your car and stream or listen to your playlists seamlessly. I'm not saying that it won't take a long while, but in 20 years I can't imagine there being a large enough market for radio to support itself.

Radio is dead but that doesn't mean podcasts flourish. The medium is so over-saturated that you can't make real money doing it. The most successful podcasters just plug their other shit, like standup dates.

Wrong. Over-saturation does not mean you can't make money. In fact, if anything, have 99% shit makes the 1% quality stand out further, and make more money. Competition is actually good for businesses, because consumers become more committed to their decisions.

Oversaturation of a market actually means you're more likely to make money. Not a lot of it, but some. Podcasting is a bubble, and it's about to burst.

We, the listeners win by getting more choice.

Yeah that's why it works.

radio isnt dead, never will be unless we get rid of cars, jobs, ect...
tons of people listen to radio in the car, at work, at home, i love podcasts but they are definitely not the same as radio, bill burr is the only must listen podcast but other than that its pretty much all shit with shit guests.
and maron is a hack, his podcast was interesting the first year or two but he is not easy to listen to every day, i mean if some idiot is on and you need something to listen to are you going to do it? 80% of those shows rely on guests.

Maron is a lot of things, but he's far from a hack. Do you even know what that means?
1 samsterlicious 2014-07-11
i just know his standup gives me the snoozez
1 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-07-11
That isn't the same as a hack.
