A theory on why the SXM web app stinks and their lack of interest in getting it fixed.

I noticed that despite customers constantly complaining about how bad the web app is it never gets fixed and the complaints ignored.

I put this down to SXM shitty management but it also came to me that maybe (and i have no proof of this its just a theory) they are leaving it like that on purpose.

They have the monopoly on satellite radio and by giving their customers a sub par web stream it makes satellite radio seem more reliable and convenient.

If the web app was working 100% and all the customers started using the web app exclusively and set the car stereo system up for playing internet radio they run the risk of customers switching to one of the many other internet radio stations that they don't have a monopoly on.

It's almost like they are purposely muddying the convenience of internet radio just to make their obsolete Satellite radio seem relevant.

The problem is that the app has become worse in the past week or so, I guess since it was updated. At least in the past it mostly worked now it is just plain shit.

i haven't logged in this morning but the past few days it has been like that. try to skip ahead or forward in the show and it just takes you to random spots, not from the start after a commercial break.

Mel K hired a third party company to handle the app. It's very fucked up. SiriusXM has a contract with that company and once that is over HOPEFULLY it will get better. This was also explained on O&A after they talked about it with the new CEO. But I've heard the same thing behind the scenes. They definitely want more people on the Apps. Right now the only way to fix the app is if the App company says something people consider to be racist on twitter.

Never attribute to malice when incompetence suffices, right? This company doesn't know what it is doing. It could be using the internet to be as vital to daily life as cable t.v. but instead it is a 3 dollar stock censoring and firing its "uncensored" talk and being inferior music wise to the collective Slacker, Pandora, Spotify, Last.FM, Bandcamp, Youtube and Rhapsody on the internet, or even just one of these services.
