More of a show of support at this point but it's good to see numbers like this.

It's the top petition of the day, just beating this possibly even more deserving one http://www.change.org/petitions/tumblr-that-all-users-of-tumblr-be-labelled-as-mentally-handicapped-landwhales

I'm fucking signing.

Wow we beat out 4chan, that's impressive.
2 Die-rector 2014-07-08
nobody beats 4chan. you just delay the inevitable.
7 RJPennyweather 2014-07-08
Why the fuck would we want them back on Sirius? That company did nothing but stifle them at every turn. They forced Roland as their booker, and let the show run downhill. This is the best thing for the show.
Live From The Compound is going to be amazing, and in October when Opie and Jimmy join him everything is going to be much much better.
9 BaggySpandex 2014-07-08
Because I'd like to see Ant get rehired and then have them blow it all up properly.
2 ITrageGuy 2014-07-08
haha for real. talk about going out with a whimper.
4 Houghton91 2014-07-08
It's not about getting him back on Sirius. It's a representative number on how many cancellations of subs there potentially are. Also it helps pick up media attention, get the word out and makes it hurt Sirius.
2 krankle 2014-07-08
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Roland work for them for a while, then he left for some years, and then The Opester begged Sirius to bring him back on? Don't get me wrong, they're still a bunch of cunts, but I don't think they forced Roland on them.

Does anyone have a guesstimate on how many subs they have lost because of this compared to their total sub number?
5 poopypantsed 2014-07-08
One article said 18k subs = ~$3 million in revenue annually.
Here's the link it's mentioned towards the bottom of the story.

EDIT: added link

I don't care how rich a company is. The firing better have come from the top because if I had someone under me do a 3 million dollar decision because of "internet journalism" heads would roll.
13 hobo_clown 2014-07-08
Well I hear they just fired a guy that made 3 million a year soooo...

ya but if you go into the math a little bit more he has already recieved probably 2.5 million of it since there is only 3 months left on the contract.
So Siruis still lost about 2.5 million I think.

2 punchingoutboys 2014-07-08
Umm no. That's not what the article says. First, they say the standwithant page has 65k fans. It has 3k. It has 65k views. Big fucking difference. Second, the petition has 16k signed (21k now) you know how easy it is to bullshit signatures on change.org? If that thing has 20k signatures maybe 25% might be real people that have canceled. OK fine 5k. If you own the stock you know avg rev per sub isn't even $100/yr. Bottom line is that article did lead research than me which is pretty pathetic.
2 hbk72777 2014-07-08
And how many cancelled without signing the petition? Or never posted on a message board? Or never followed Anthony on Twitter?
We don't know, it goes both ways. We'll find out in the next quarter.

We'll at least it's already over 9000.. Ugh
2 pinata_penis_pump 2014-07-08
20,000 out of 25 million. Yeah, that'll really show them.
3 ucfgavin 2014-07-08
It will. Say that out those 20,000 signatures, 16,000 were legit and were paying say an approximate $15 per month for their sub, thats a little less than $3 million per year. Show me one business that thinks that its ok to lose $3 million in revenue per year because of a decision they made that had ZERO impact on the company. I have yet to see one person say "Thank you SiriusXM, I wasn't a subscriber before, but I'm going to sign up right now!"
2 fuckjeah 2014-07-08
They are publicly traded so everything is about quarterly projections and performance. Since they make most of the money from subscriptions, that is the number investors look at to decide how the stock is trending.
They have been accused of having saturated their market, so they need slow stable growth, if they can't make the numbers up (and then some) before the quarter is out, it will have bearing on the stock price and for the major stock holders, it is that price that determines how much they get on the next dividend and that determines the long and short view on the risk to reward of the stock.
They have a PE ratio of 5/6, so institutional investors are already a little jumpy on the long term prospects regardless of hirings and firings.
1 broktune 2014-07-08
Well, how many people do you think would have cancelled if Sirius kept him? I doubt it would be in the hundreds let alone 20k. No business likes to lose money and Sirius is going to lose a little bit.
Adam Corolla made a comment about Ant's firing saying Sirius may not have fired Ant if the show was killing in the ratings department. I don't know.
1 rottengymshorts 2014-07-08
Put your address as 117 Macdougal St, New York, NY
-1 treader19 2014-07-08
i mean don't you think the audience is much bigger? What's Op's youtube #'s? i would expect 100k or something, 20k isn't alot.
4 serget 2014-07-08
It is but most people in the audience don't bother with petitions or protests. I do hope they'll subscribe though to his podcasts once he starts it up.
3 [deleted] 2014-07-08
I'm also not sure all the listeners are aware. Did they announce it on the radio? If not then there's probably a lot of people that just think they're on vacation.
1 [deleted] 2014-07-08
It's just been "best of" since monday
1 [deleted] 2014-07-08
I bet most listeners don't expose themselves to the show outside of the radio itself. I bet we see a lot of heat build back up next week. Sirius's plan might be to spread it out.
1 [deleted] 2014-07-08
Ant has over 160k twitter followers.. Opie and Jim even more (and bobo, but that's bots). Not everyone has signed the petition obviously.

[deleted]
3 [deleted] 2014-07-08
nobody really knows how big the audience is, but judging from the angry tweets @siriusxm (not representative of everyone cancelling btw), it's pretty substancial
-3 HeyBuddays 2014-07-08
Kind of crazy how only 4 out of 20,000 could show up in New York City for a protest.
11 [deleted] 2014-07-08
Yeah, because all O&A fans live in (expensive as hell) new york and are jobless.
2 HeyBuddays 2014-07-08
Or multiple people signed the petition multiple times...no, they would never do that. Nevermind. Forget I said anything. If you can't believe in the sanctity of an internet petition, you can't believe in anything anymore.
1 Chamomileable 2014-07-08
Change has some system in place to prevent that from happening. It's unrelated to cookies and does some shit involving either your IP or MAC address. If you try changing your IP on the router, it still doesn't work for some reason, though.

-1 Blemish 2014-07-08
Well it appears others do.
Like his employers over at SIRIUS RADIO.
1 TripleSkeet 2014-07-08
Yea. I know. Very fucked up that employers can keep tabs of what you say on your free time and use that to take your job away. There should be a law.

More like they defend a host who was fired because of pressure from some dickbag bloggers.
2 insanemetal187 2014-07-08
Who said anyone defends his actions? If you have been reading this sub the last few days most people disagree with what he said, and in fact have been getting sick of his racism for a while now.
That said, we all believe he should be allowed to say this shit. Also, you're implying that he's talking about an entire race when he's really talking about people who act a certain way. You know, people who start punching people in public for taking pictures of them.
Do you defend HER actions? Which leaves the question, which is worse violence or speech?
-1 Blemish 2014-07-08
AGREED .
Yup and he is allowed to say it too. He was not arrested or convicted under law.
But his employers should also be allowed to exercise their right to fire him, as stipulated in their agreed contract whenever he exercises his right to racism.
You cant defend one, and then try to force the hand of his employer. Freedom is a two way street.
Do you agree ?
1 insanemetal187 2014-07-08
People like you forced the hand of the employer though. He's said similar stuff to this on the show, yet he's been resigned a bunch of times. Do you really think if they didn't want this on their airwaves they would?
The company was forced into it because a minority of people who don't know who he is got upset that he's allowed to entertain people they don't know. It's nonsense. You aren't taking something away from yourself, you're demanding it be taken away from other's. You can honestly say that you don't enjoy anything anyone else could find offensive?
You're not thinking in a larger context. You're not thinking of the implications that you could be in my seat, losing entertainment you enjoy, or in Ant's seat, you said something offensive and lose your job over it.
If you think this is acceptable please write down all the things you've said that might be offensive and a way to contact your employer(s). I'd like to report you and get you fired. This is the actions you're approving of, seems only fair you be a victim of them.
2 [deleted] 2014-07-08
sometimes I defend Opie too and Opie sux.

Do you listen to the show? Or are you saying you won't miss someone who didn't know existed before this?
-5 Blemish 2014-07-08
I don't listen to the show.
Having seen how he thinks of blacks, as a black man, I wouldn't listen to his show.
Here are a few of his twitter posts, which he has now deleted from his twitter account. You would think he would be a man, and stand by his statements:
"Whore bitch piece of cunt all pissy"
He calls the "black girl" a "&$;;-:"
"They aren't people"
"White boys don't hit back"
"Lying Cunt. I hope she gets shot in her ass fuck face. Ugh"
"Its a jungle out in our cities after midnight. Violent savages"
"Yup. Animal pig fuck cunt bitch"
Why she attacked him: "Reason !?? I WAS WHITE !!"
"Savage violent animal fucks prey on white people"..."I had a gun"
"The cunt animal kept walking into my arm ... I hope a home boy beats her to death"
"The automatic jump to violence in that community is astounding"
"No an ANIMAL BITCH used it's instinctual violence on me. I restrained myself from putting it to sleep"
"Slavery did it ? Oh ok"
"CUNTRAG bitch fuck animal pig face worthless meat sack shit pil stink crotch ass stain rot bung..."
EDIT: For a subreddit that is dedicated to free speech, it is rather ironic that I was banned for posting a contrary view.
I guess dissenting views are not allowed after all.
3 BigGreenYamo 2014-07-08
Hey, Crusader, every one here knows the score. It's been on here since before it hit Gawker.
2 insanemetal187 2014-07-08
Have you ever been in a fight, where you got your ass kicked? Have you said anything that you might have regretted if it was on a bunch of different media outlets? Would you want people who don't know you, don't know what you do for a living and aren't supported by what you do to have a say in whether or not you can continue to do it?
I'm atheist but one thing that's stuck with me my entire life is treat others how you want to be treated. I've said some fucked up things in anger, I wouldn't want to be fired over them. Also there's TONS of media I absolutely hate, but people enjoy it, it gets views and I don't have to bother with it. So why would I waste my time crusading to get a show I don't watch/listen off the air ruining someone else's enjoyment?
No one expects you to enjoy the show and we are fine with you being pissed off. But actually approving someone being fired over their words is stupid. If you're ok with that, admit to your boss, in front of a crowd, every nasty, inappropriate thing you've ever said. If he doesn't fire you, demand he does. It's the only logical thing to do, right?

11 [deleted] 2014-07-08
why do you even bother posting at this point?
-16 gsbird1065 2014-07-08
Clearly because people like you are still trying to peddle fake optimism when you know as well as anyone that it's not happening.
