Second to the ending of the John and Jeff show, this is the worst end to one of the greatest shows to ever grace radio.

It's hard to say yet if the "Opie and Anthony Show" is over, it may well be. Either way, Anthony certainly isn't 'over.'

Only thing is you need to read up on the podcast landscape. The big 'podcast companies' don't have money. They don't really even exist. Stitcher certainly doesn't have money, they abandoned their premium model months ago. People simply don't want to pay.

To monetize a podcast, he (or O&A) will need to do it themselves. There's not enough money in it to have a third party taking a % unnecessarily. Terrestrial seems like a long shot. He'd been under even more scrutiny, and he's got enough money not to deal with that nonsense.

I cant believe he's seriously fired. I've been listening to the show since I was 14 and I'm now 22. These guys have been apart of my everyday life for almost 10 years now. This sounds so fucking sappy but, without fail, listening to them would always make me laugh no matter how shitty my day was. I've been following O&A on YouTube since I first listened to a Louis ck appearance on the show back in 2008. If it wasn't for o&a, I would never have been introduced to Patrice O'neal, Bill Burr, lil' Jimmy, or any of these other amazing comedians I now know about and follow.

Anthony has always been very open and upfront about his racial issues and feelings, and the incidents that they stem from. I don't agree with his viewpoints, and I think he can be very ignorant, but none of that (at least for me) has ever detracted from his being one of the funniest radio hosts out there.

I think his firing in response to these tweets is a scandal. Obviously we don't know the whole story yet, but from what I've heard and read so far it sounds as though Anthony was the victim of a racially motivated hate crime. He was physically assaulted by a black woman who uttered racist expletives at him, whilst he was simultaneously harassed and taunted by male bystanders.

Did Anthony respond physically or violently to this provocation? No. Did he pull out his gun? No.

He met physical violence with words. He extricated himself from the situation, and he used words to convey to the public how upset and threatened that woman made him feel, and how barbaric he thought her behavior was. He called her names -- nasty names. Vicious names. But he didn't lift a finger to harm anyone, even though he was well within his right to do so.
