I mostly listen to the show out of morbid curiosity these days. It used to be a hilariously funny show at times in the past but I really think it's run its course. I find all of this controversy interesting but I really don't have a stake in any of it.

The strange thing about SXM is that because they are a subscription service they don't have to rely on advertisers and public opinion as much as other media. For example, why is the Elvis channel that O&A goofed on still on the air? It's because no one really cares; people pay for the service as a whole, not by the channel. If you cancel your subscription you lose the whole service, not just the show you don't like (not to mention that you'll probably have to buy a new radio to replace the SXM one that doesn't work any more). This makes it less easy for people to protest against a specific show or personality.

It gives shows more freedom to do and say what they want, but it also makes the shows less responsive to subscriber or advertiser opinion. Since it would take the threat of mass cancellations of SXM to get Ant fired, and I doubt that will happen, I suspect that this isn't going to effect his job much at all.

If enough mainstream media outlets pick up on the story, it will. SXM is a publicly traded company with shareholders. Public opinion does matter to them. Anthony Cumia is small potatoes to them and not someone they would protect if it gets bad.

I don't know. Normally I'd agree but SXM works on a different paradigm where public opinion doesn't matter as much regarding the bottom line. If the stock holders understand that then this incident won't matter to them. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
