O&A Show Over: Conspiracy Theory
2 2014-06-30 by howie42
All non Opie & Anthony show members are ramping up their presence:
Sam: Friday Live show & WWE commentary EROCK: See #theconsumerist & the Erik Nagle show highlighting his niche nerd pop culture knowledge Jim: his Vice TV show
I think the writing is on the wall, because I would do the same thing if I knew my company was going to not exist in 3 months.

Yeah, I guess you're right.
EDIT: I should have made my username xJimmah120x. That looks much better, and more extreme.

Sam & E-Rock only have shows because they're ON the Opie & Anthony Channel, where else would they be allowed to host their own show? And I could just about see Sam doing something small backstage at the WWE, but only because he likes wrestling, not because of an insurance plan or anything.

Thank you for your service sir.

I honestly would not be surprised if O&A resign without Jimmy in Oct.
Not saying the boys would do something scummy or cut him out, but if this Vice thing really happens (especially if they get their own network) i can see Jim being not interested.
Sam working for WWE is a pipe dream. I could see him announcing, but you dont start at the top and i dont think Sam has what it takes to be on the road 300 days a year.

I think you mean re-sign not resign

I dont know if i see jim's show taking off. Ah but what do i know
2 rockedup18 2014-06-30
They seem to be doing well financially at xm and the money is a sure thing . A podcast might give them more freedom at the cost of listeners. And the podshow money isn't guaranteed. I predict a re-signing. They would be stupid not to take xm's money while they can. Maybe they could do a partial simulcast to a podshow like they did with cbs & xm.
1 free2game 2014-06-30
Considering they're on a premium service how would a podcast be less people if it's free.
1 rockedup18 2014-06-30
No podcast service plays automatically when ppl start their cars. And the podcast # is a variable but it is less convenient than xm right now imo
2 FrunkisOA 2014-06-30
I was thinking the same thing... But I really don't think Anthony would have bought that car knowing a steady income is in jeopardy
2 janedoe2893 2014-06-30
He purchased the car, supposedly, with casino winnings.
2 pfg-sciple 2014-06-30
When he was concerned about future income in the past, he talked about curtailing his gamblings.
I think Anthony has a fear of ending up poor white trash again. He can only stay out of the gutter for so long.

People on the O&A channel doing their own shows on the O&A channel doesn't imply at all that the flagship show of the O&A channel will no longer exist.
As far as Jimmy doing other things...what's new? He's been in and out to work on his own career since day 1. This is no surprise.

Opie realizing he has absolutely nothing of value to say without comedic talent surrounding him?
And Tim probably found a higher paying job where he doesn't have to receive phone calls from little baby boys crying about EVERYTHING

Your theory has opie being self aware. Sorry that's not the opie I know.

Is Burr seriously getting $6500 a week for just rambling into a microphone for an hour? If the podcast owners get 100% of the listed revenues, that means he's making $338,000 a year on his podcast alone which is insane.
I also had no idea it was as popular as this list says it is.
1 [deleted] 2014-06-30
A lot of people piss on podcasting, especially here, but it's gotten to where you can make a decent living from it, if you have the downloads. If you look at the articles that are coming out discussing it, if you hit 100k downloads, you can make serious bank.
It's still growing, and the big boys of advertising haven't jumped in yet, but when they do, watch certain shows explode. Mark Maron and Kevin Smith and Adam Carolla are in a sweet spot right now with their networks to catch those advertisers first.
I know someone who has a small but popular podcast, that's been around forever. He makes a pretty nice amount of money from his show, at the 5-10k download level, and a couple of advertisers. It pays the rent. He does zero advertising for it outside of iTunes and Facebook.
O&A know the time is ripe to be the first big show to cut the tether and go podcast, possibly with a live video feed, like the TwiT.tv network does. It's a lot of work, but it's freedom. But, going 100% podcast will mean Opie finally admitting that he's not a top radio dog, and that's all he wants for his years of taking it up the ass.
If they had a good agent, they'd be hammering out a final contract with Sirius that allows them to transition to something else, or license the new show to Sirius, which is win/win for Sirius, they can keep the channel (and edit out anything they don't like), and they don't have Opie there causing headaches for them.
Doubt that will happen. I bet the resign for 2 more years, they bitch more about how Sirius doesn't get it, and they'll be passed by, again.

Wow fuck, that's some righteous bucks.

Top quality rambling. Good for Bill & Nia. Also, that could mean more vacations to random countries, providing lots of interesting material.
1 ScoleriBrother 2014-06-30
NDT and star talk really get that much? I like the podcast and all and listen just about every week but the format is terrible
0 Touch_Of_Red 2014-06-30
I find it very hard to believe that HBO gets 150% of the listeners as Smodcast.
0 janedoe2893 2014-06-30
To add to your conspiracy, Opie has been trying to do voices and jokes over the last 8 weeks or so.
-1 thebedshow 2014-06-30
Sirius will be fine, but talk radio on Sirius will die.
0 marsgamingchannel 2014-06-30
but that's the only worthwhile thing they offer. Music is easy and free and there are many better options than Sirius
-1 gconeen 2014-06-30
I hope they announce that the show is going to end, wind down the show to an epic last week of celebration and Jocktobers. Then after the last show The Opester puts a shotgun in his mouth and Jim and Ant show up the next day like nothing happen and do radio until they shit themselves.

You have the right thought. Whether it is currently relevant or slightly more down the road I don't know. But Sirius is not gonna be around for much longer. It cannot compete with podcasts which they used to laugh at. Podcast's have real easy way to measure data for each and every download or live stream. Sirius does not. Of course Howard likes to tought the 20 million listener number even though he is a liar and Opie and Anthony also used to love to lie about their numbers also.
Sirius is basically MySpace and even if they hire Justin Timberlake for advertisements it ain't coming back.
I would also like to add I don't get why listeners want to here Erik Nagel it baffles me. But he did talk a little about how shitty Micheal Bay is. I did enjoy that.
The new TMNT trailors are making me very depressed.
"What's wrong with the old turtles we got?"
2 [deleted] 2014-06-30
I agree with the sentiment, slightly disagree with Sirius falling off the face of the planet. SiriusXM Canada had a net profit in Q1 2014 (they've been doing well since 2012), and SiriusXM US is still still posting profits (0.02 EPS). In the past two years subscribers have gone up, and whether it will continue going up is in question. However, with only 20/25 percent of the vehicles in the US having Sirius/XM radios, the forecast doesn't look that bleak in my opinion.
What I do agree with is that "Talk Radio" cannot compete with podcasts; I assume that's why you see a lot of radio shows starting to release their shows as podcasts. Conversely, "Political-Talk Radio" appears to be booming. However, Talk Radio on SiriusXM has an advantage (i.e., capital to do things) that they're not leveraging...
0 marsgamingchannel 2014-06-30
Bleek????
0 [deleted] 2014-06-30
Can you show me where podcasts have "real easy to measure data for each and every download?" Cause it sure as fuck isn't for our show, and I've heard a lot of other podcasters complain about that too. How the hell do you track your data for those damn things? itunes doesn't tell you, it stinks.
0 [deleted] 2014-06-30
I have heard several podcasters say their numbers of downloads and when a certain guest got the a certain amount of downloads vs the rest of their podcast's with other guest's.
Also I am a beginner website developer but I do know how to write a script for each unique visit to a site which I can tell can be slightly altered to count every click to download something.
Also there are websites out there I have barely checked out but I have been told can measure your traffic more efficient.
I mean just look at people with youtube videos who measure hits and how long a user watched and when they stopped watching from which country etc.
I can't help you much about itunes but I would suggest you just ask many podcasters on twitter if they wouldn't mind answering your questions how to get those numbers cause I know Joe Rogan , Duncan Trussell , Redban and others do know those numbers and get them with any podcast they want to know about because I have heard them say which guest and which guests get which number of downloads on itunes
edit: a few edits cause I forget words
0 mikelp1973 2014-06-30
See? He has heard from his uncle who listened to a podcast once that they may have said something about what their download numbers are. Or something! Sirius is failing!
0 rockedup18 2014-06-30
If you hosted it on your own server (and only your server) you would know exactly how many downloads you had.
0 45flight2 2014-06-30
Or any server that gives you that info. Which should be all of them
0 mikelp1973 2014-06-30
