Gave Stern a try...it wasn't that bad.

Haven't listened to Stern in years since I began listening to O&A. Given that today is Friday and O&A aren't doing a show I listened to a Stern show from earlier in the week and it made a pretty good substitute.
I would have assumed his show would be complete shit since all I hear about him is America's Got Talent, Kittens and the Hamptons but he didn't talk about any of that.
This was the show I listened to:

Not sure if O&A still have a rivalry with him or if I'm committing some grand sin by talking about Stern here, but I figure since neither show broadcasts Fridays it cant hurt.

I listened to a whole stern show recently when Doug Stanhope was last on. I don't know if it was Artie leaving or Howard and Robin getting too old or what but the show is a drag now.
Has anyone ever posited the idea that Howard hired Richard and Sal so that he'd have his own retarded Opie and Anthony to boss around?

I enjoyed that show, Doug's Jonny Depp story was fucking cool....I didn't mind hoo hoo either really.

Haven't listened since I moved to O&A. By that time Artie was out of the picture and it was a depressing, gossipy, waste of time. Nothing ever beat Artie and Gilbert riffing on the news.

Artie was the only reason I ever listened

I've tried multiple times to listen to Stern, but he's just such a narcissist. Plus when I heard him making fun of otto when he died, he came off as really cruel and mean..and I usually like that type of humor.

First I've heard of this. Any details or a link you can share?

"America's Got Talent, Kittens and the Hamptons but he didn't talk about any of that" - I think the point is more that he has talked about/done any of that stuff at all. As opposed to the guy he was.

Which is stupid because Opie and Sam will blabber about talent shows and reality television for way too long and Sam's dumb cat and Opie's dumb kid.

Opie is more like Stern than he thinks. The more I think about it, Opies whole brash opinions that disappear as quickly as they appear and edgy i don't give a fuck attitude are stolen from Stern. Ant admits listening to Stern but Opie claims to have never listened. Bull shit

But Stern is begging his audience for money to fund "Bianca's Furry Friends" a new cat wing on an animal shelter. Yes that really is the name. Bianca was his dog, and he says it seriously on the air. It's so sad to hear. "My wife, I tell you what Robin my wife is such an angel with these cats" "AWWWWW Oh Howard she really is such a saint" "Thank you Robin" Puke

Well I didn't intend to sound as if I were defending modern Stern. Just saying comparing all the complaints he gets for talking innane old woman shit isn't much worse than half of what Opie and Sam ramble about.

I just find it funny that Stern ripped Imus for marrying a trophy wife that got involved in a charity and wrote a book. The Imus cancer ranch is now Biancas Furry friend and deeerrddeeers book is now Oh MY Dog by Beth Stern. But in Sterns mind it's totally different when he does it. That makes him unlistenable now. So full of himself and hypocritical.

His elderly man denture voice is incredibly distracting.

I tuned in like 6 months ago or so. I heard stern say, "me and beth had a small lunch, like a spa lunch." When he seriously referenced something as a spa lunch I knew the stern I used to like was dead and gone.

IMO, this is the biggest shift in the show: Stern himself, has become the least interesting part of the show.
What made the show, was Stern's opinion/reactions/attack mode, but for all his bashing of Jay Leno as a milquetoast comedian, that's exactly what he's become; a milquetoast network TV judge, with a radio show. His last big attack was on Stan Van Gundy, and it just seemed odd.

Stern staff arguments is some of the best radio ever but I had to quit once he started dating/got engaged to Beth. It turned horrendous. Thankfully I was long gone once AGT started.

It is horrendous. What are you talking about? He's been patently unlistenable since Artie left.

I'll listen to some of his interview from time to time, but I can't stand the show in general. Robin is irritating as fuck.

I've been listening to old Stern shows from the 90s. I actually refuse to listen to new Stern, because I'm afraid it will ruin my perception of him.
Also, in the big scheme of things O&A and Stern have more in common than not. The entertainment world has gotten more expansive, radio has become relatively smaller, so I don't think it makes sense for people to keep up the 'radio war' bullshit.

I used to like Stern in the 90's when he was at his peak. I read both his books etc etc. I give him respect for how he forged his way to where he is. Like it or not, he paved the way for the boys. Even before I started listening to O&A (around 2004), I had given up on him. His arrogant "I invented everything" attitude ruined it for me. The way Imus treated Howard, is the equivalent to why O&A can't stand the prick.
