I don't hate him but he has been irksome of late. The past few weeks he's told more outright lies than I've ever heard from him. I don't know if the bashing of his youtube videos or that caller from a week or so ago got to him but he's definently been the most irritating recently. Anyone who says Jimmy or otherwise is a fool.
I agree. It seems as though he's getting advice from somewhere (coach?agent?friend?wife?) to "be more funny". He's attempted to do more voices in the last month than the previous 10 years combined. He's trying to showcase talents he simply does not have. (I figure he's working on a sizzle reel.) I respect and appreciate his role within the show. He has a great gift for timing the discussion and keeping the pace, but he's not the funny one and shouldn't stop trying because he's humiliating himself. He's shitting on what he's built over the last 20 years. Also, his lies need to stop. One of the qualities the fans like of the show is the brutal honesty. We can spot his lies rather quickly.
You're absolutely right. I've been listening since WNEW and I've never remembered Opie being this consistently insufferable. He had his moments in the past obviously, but in the past two months it feels like he's just gone off the deep end. Opie from as early as a few years ago would have killed Opie now for the embarrassing shit he's been doing recently. It's either a Ron Bennington-level work he's pulled off, or there's something going on behind the scenes. Maybe Sirius/XM have told them more or less that the show won't be renewed and he's just clueless how to deal with the situation, hence the desperate attempt to "branch out".
I listened to the show for nearly ten years and honestly never noticed any of the shit that you guys gripe about pertaining to the hosts.
Then I found this sub.
And now I hate Opie and think Jim is a faggot.
And more importantly, I have laughed more at content in this sub than I have at the show in the past several months, particularly the Opie bashing threads. Please don't stop.
about 2 week after i started listening. i quickly picked up on the voice that was ruining all the fun and it happened to be Greggs. I'm still amazed more people on here don't hate him more.
A week or two after I discovered the show. He just LOVES to interrupt interesting or funny chatter with inane drivel and he never contributes anything.
Was listening to yesterdays show and he trampled anthony's lines about "small talk" or whatever he said when he said he was getting his cock examined (it was line of the day thursday)
Yeah. He was never my favorite, but he was tolerable up until then. He went off the fucking deep end in 2007/2008 with that shit. I still remember him sounding like an old man saying "These 'viral videos' would help promote the show. I think the key to success are these 'viral videos.'"
He has annoyed me since pretty much I started listening to the show in 2004. If it wasn't for Jimmy and Anthony (and all the great comics they used to bring in) I would have jumped ship years ago. I think the moment when it turned to hate was when I first heard him say "Buttery Beats" (just typing that gives me douche chills). His frat boy mentality / demeanor is the worst.
The day he posted the footage of the Boston Bomber in the boat, after all the shit he'd said about profiting off of murderers and "don't give these guys publicity", he proved to be all about views and no better than the mainstream media he is apparently against.
He'd be fine if he realized hes not the "talent" part of the show. He's fine when a conversation gets going and he goes silent to let people talk, but now we all know hes actually just going through the phones / twitter or waiting to bring it back to him.
If he was honest and just said "fine ill cut back on yapping and see how it goes" his life as well as ours would be better.
I listened to an old clip of a Bill Burr appearance a few weeks ago, and I noticed that Opie was steamrolling over Burr's stories and interjecting at the worst times. I don't know why I didn't notice those tendencies until then, but since then I've really been noticing whenever Opie does them, and it's irritating.
I liked, then tolerated Opie for a long time despite all his faults. But recently, especially the last couple of weeks, it feels like he is ruining my favorite radio show on purpose. I am now "all in" with the Opie hate.
When he pushed Sam down our throats. Just because SAMs wife and Opie's wife are friends. He says he wants to give the fans what they want; but yet he knows 90% of the fans hate Sam, but he doesn't care.
I honestly think that Ant &
Jimmy don't care for Sam either. Sam talks so much, Ant & Jim literally gave to talk over him sometimes to
Be heard.
Recently I don't know why but I have started to be able to laugh at the shit opie does. I think it's because my estimation of him is that he is so idiotic that he has become a real life chip or a functioning retard like bobo. The only problem with opie is that he holds a position and status he definitely shouldn't if he was like some whack packer he would be hilarious to shit on. His terrible videos, horrible conversation and awful jokes are a goldmine

The FreeFM days when he discovered Twitter. It's all been downhill from there

About a month ago when I saw his Twitter and YouTube Channel. It's not just Opie, it's "Gregg Hughes" who fucking irritates me too.

The first time I heard him yell "boo hoo!" for three minutes in that fuckwad voice of his

Right after my dad force fed me a hairy lollipop.
Ever since then I've blamed my childhood tragedies on Opie

Your dad got me as well. I love Opie though

As someone else pointed out awhile back, Opie is the "David Brent" of radio. Without the funny.

Stop listening. Podcasts await my whiny little basement dwellers.
