Does this show ever create?

or is that a thing of the past? is it just about ripping on people (good or bad) who create?

That's a one of the few valid criticisms, I've also wondered. The downfall of the show is their refusal to actually create comedy anymore—no, I don't mean hacky stunt bits. It's now full time trash talk.

Have you not heard the hilarious/culturally important Apology Clock bit?!

Have you not heard the hilarious/culturally important Apology Clock bit?!

It's anthropology. The Opester studies people.

It is interesting that any criticisms of the show are met with, "Well, if you don't like it why don't you you make your own radio show." Meanwhile, they shit on just about everything, but they haven't done an original bit in years. The Apology Clock doesn't count either since they've been shitting on unnecessary apologies for years.

They created "cocks in a box" recently.... uhh... umm.... a few years ago.

This is actually a really good point, you could write a whole essay on this. They are constantly breaking it down and shitting on it in various ways, but they also do some new things like acknowledging their own bombs which you hardly ever get in comedy and being very revealing and self-deprecating at times which alot of comedy isn't. I think they do more bad than good, with Jim & Ant saving the show from being completely miserable and bitter.

I wish they'd bring back the Bombs and Flubs segment.

Same, I think we all do - one of the best things the show has ever done. Jimmy & Ant still bomb all the time and they acknowledge it too so it can't be that hard for them to make a compilation of it. The only problem is the 52 year old frat boy that would be too sensitive about it. I would love for them to play the entire "Jury Dury" clip and pick it apart piece by piece.

Oh I forgot about his Jury Duty story. That was one of his worst lies in their entire career.

I like the show when Anthony and Jimmy tell stories and/or when a comedian comes in and does some bits, interviews etc. but how much of the time is spent consuming things other people made (TV, music, news, video, websites etc) and criticizing versus making their own content? Only one of those adds to your value as a show.

and don't get me started on all the bitching Opie does from contracts to howard to fucking chairs

I agree, I like the show when they tell stories too... but at this point, what do Ant and Jim really have to talk about anymore?

Ant leaves the studio after the show and goes into a coffin until it's time to get up the next day; Jim has told the same stories over and over again, and I'll let you guys fill in the rest about Opie.

Having people to talk to and hang out with and bring some energy to the show (Dan Soder, for instance. Or retarded interns. Or maybe a studio audience, etc.) breaks up the monotony of O&A&J trying and failing to relate to each other. Fuck I hate to say it but even having Danny's stupid cunty ass on the show led to at least some interesting banter.

I agree. Does Roland book the comedians? I figured he probably booked everybody, but he only seems to be concerned about booking D-list celebrities or food to get favors down the line for himself. We really need a new group of guest comedians now that most of the old comedians never do the show anymore.

Okay Regular Joe.

Yeah they'll never lay their eyes on that. Also, the internet would be a terrible decision for them. At least on satellite radio they don't have much competition. With the podcast world they'd be one of a million different comedy podcasts. They wouldn't have a company to keep them accountable so the podcast would only be done once a week or so. They wouldn't have a budget or a way to book anybody since the staff won't work for free. Also, they'd be saying goodbye to their seven figure salaries. Leaving sirius would be a terrible move.

Ever since their "Behind the Mask" with Ron Bennington, I've wondered how creative O&A actually are. If you look at the eras of the show, they simply correspond to whomever the producers were at the time. Oh, they stopped doing a WNEW style show? Well, they also didn't have the same producers from that show on XM. Oh, they stopped doing their XM shows with lots of shit going on? Well they fired Ben Sparks and Than and Derek left.

Ant and Jimmy pretty much only offer bits that they can do themselves, many of which are not planned. Opie's idea of creativity is to do something that Howard Stern has done but with a twist - Stern has Fred the Elephant Boy and Crackhead Bob on, so Opie gets Twichels and Big A to be part of the show. At least they've pretty much admitted that the lesbians in studio and the wiffle ball bat stuff was just lowest common denominator shit to attract listeners. When I saw him do the speaker scene from Private Parts on video, and read that they didn't even write Sex for Sam, and that that was supposed to be a bit called Sex in the City with some rock chick on WNEW, I lost a lot of respect for O&A.

The show is best and most creative when comedian guests are on, Norton has material to riff on, and Ant is doing impressions. The show spent several good years basically re-using Tough Crowd, which was on while they were off the air.

They actually do a bit "OMG I couldn't stand opie during the bit.CRINGE. fucking morning zoo radio"

Okay Regular Joe.
