More likely the way Opie did it is what prompted the reaction. While the show is definitely within their rights to take Fridays off, the way Opie announced it was very disrespectful for PAYING customers. Fans that pay for the service only for Opie and Anthony are only losing value with the more days they take off. The only one gaining is the company because they pay the show less(giving more days off in lieu of increased pay) while maintaining the same revenue stream from the listeners of the channel
Not exactly, technically the customers aren't losing anything. They have a certain amount of vacation days, whether they use them every Friday in the summer, or stagger them through the year, or take them individually or in couples, you're still getting the same amount of "Opie and Anthony with Lil Jimmy Norton" shows. It's a contractual deal that was made two years ago, you lose nothing.
Contract A is is for 5 million, and requires 250 radio shows. This contract is coming up, and SiriusXM does not want to pay any more out of pocket than they are, but they understand the show should get a raise. So instead of giving them more money, they change the contractual obligation to carry out 225 radio shows. The show is being paid more per show, but is receiving the same total amount of money. SiriusXM keeps the same fan base, leaving the responsibility on the show to tell the fan base there are less shows, and the company receives the same amount of money because it is a subscription based service.
Then you are saving on subscription cost. The company felt they deserved a raise but didn't want to raise premiums or move money from elsewhere. So you saved either the guys leaving the company or a subscription cost hike. They are getting older man, this is going to be more commonplace. Op worked through the nights, weekends, and holidays coming up in the biz, Ant tin knocked 5 days a week until he got with Opie. They have been busting their ass for 20 years, is just that time. Sure they made fun of people for doing the same thing, I never said they weren't hypocrites, but it is just a natural progression imo.
Understandable. They are getting older and perhaps starting to wind down from doing radio all together, which is fine. I'm just making the point that if a paying customer in a store was to receive less for the same product they paid the same price for, at least let the person know with a little tact.
I don't know, I probably just need to stop listening at this point. I shouldn't be getting frustrated over a radio show, especially growing to hate someone whom I have never met in my life
Make no mistake, they'll STILL have full weeks off and whatnot.
(Not that I even give a fuck. After all these years, I feel like the show has run its course, and as a listener, I could certainly be doing something far better with my life than spending so much time tolerating O&A.)
This is honestly a fantastic thing to do given the contract is up in October. Watch how angry the fans get, lash out at Sirius, then the company could see the actual value of the show. They've said many times they wouldn't mind working the schedule they do if they felt like they were treated well.
So get mad everyone. It's exactly what SHOULD happen.
Exactly, it's just good thinking on their part. Who the hell wouldn't want constant 3-day weekends? It beats not having the show to listen to for a week at a time. Plus if they don't renew their contracts they will have pissed away any remaining vacation time.
Did you forget the decade or so he spent as a broke staff member for other radio hosts, before finally landing his own show only in his 30s - a show that was in the graveyard shift, no less? I would hate to spend my 20s living the life he had, waking up at 4:00am for a radio show for minimal pay. I'd say he's paid some dues.
You think other people who are in the top of their field, paid millions, and close to retirement age work 8 hours a day 5 days a week? In my experience they golf or fish about 70% of the time everyone else is at work.

They are just spending their earned vacation days this way this summer.
I can't even begin to comprehend why people are so riled up over this.

Because it's all Opie's fault. And fat Roland is fat. And Jimmy's stand-up isn't actually funny. Duh.

Here, i'll draw an example.

So instead of giving them more money, they change the contractual obligation to carry out 225 radio shows. The show is being paid more per show, but is receiving the same total amount of money. 2 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2014-06-06
A good middle ground would be Opie taking Fridays off and Ant taking Mondays off. Then we could pretend to be productive on Mondays.
7 WNEW 2014-06-06
We'd all do it if we had the opportunity.
2 [deleted] 2014-06-06
I'd rather take Mondays off, personally
2 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2014-06-06
But then Tuesday becomes Monday. I'd rather have Thursday be Friday.

They relentlessly made fun of Steve C for doing the same thing a few years ago.
