If Opie and Anthony go their own ways when their contracts expire, who will you listen to?
0 2014-06-01 by ChunkArcade
This came into my mind on Thursday or Friday when Opie was saying "I'm outta here in October, you guys can come with me if you want".
If they split, I'd go with Anthony because he's simply more entertaining, but I could see his show losing steam because, well, he's a big piece of shit. I think Opie would put a lot of effort into producing a more well rounded show that featured a lot of guests and maybe even more bits, but I don't think I could listen to 4 hours of Opie since he's repetitive as fuck and not even remotely funny. His fake rage and forced catch-phrases make me want to stick glass in my ears.
They work amazingly well together, but if they separated they'd obviously have to find co-hosts and I can't think of any of their regulars who I could stomach hearing every single day.
Anthony FTW even though I think the show would probably fall apart.

Ant, every time somebody explains Opie's role they're pretty much giving the job description of a producer. He's not funny, intelligent, or interesting enough to carry a conversation by himself, let alone an entire show.

BUT, THE SHIP!!?!? WHO'S GONNA STEER IT??

It will just pass us by...

If they quit, I'll just go to any old airport first class lounge and listen to some cunt with kids whine about his poor treatment by the airline.

Neither. They balance each other out and feed off each other big time. I'd probably find a podcast.

This. Opie is a tryhard bore and I cannot possibly fathom listening to Ant's insane ranting and creepy old man bullshit.
But I wouldn't worry about it hecause they will never leave satellite. Sirius XM will let them go before they quit. They need the money and attention.

if this is the case then why is it every time opie is out it's a fucking hilarious show?

We have this discussion every year. They aren't going to get off the money train.
4 Unshavenhelga 2014-06-01
This is a fact. None of the podcasters they talk with have been able to monetize enough to make a full living off the podcast.

I hope, for his sake, Opie has been putting money away. Opie really thinks he's the mind behind the show. He's in for a rude awakening if he gets let go. If I was in management in Sirius/XM, he'd be out immediately. His constant whining and complaining is intolerable considering his lack of talent.
The Regular Guys was one of the highest rated shows in Atlanta. Larry Wachs and Eric von Haessler have been on Atlanta radio for the last 15 years, 10-11 minus firings. Their contract came up for renewal. Eric was let go in favor of Southside Steve Rickman, the third mic, and the butt of all jokes.
Anthony and Jim would be a fine show. Much better without whiny Opie. I think they could throw various comics on the show each day and not miss a beat.
Ope doesn't want to be there. He thinks he is more talented than both of them. He'll get a very rude awakening. What will the Philly Crew do when that $1 million a year contract goes bye-bye?

I'm not sure what Opie thinks. I have a hard time believing that he can go into that room every morning and struggle to keep up without realizing how incompetent he is. Even if he'll never admit it, deep down he's gotta be struggling with the sad truth--he's just not clever or funny enough to be the person he presents himself as.
6 LoganGV 2014-06-01
I just might listen to both of them.

I'd buy Bobo podcast equipment through paypal and listen to him talk to Mr. Maloonagins for a few hours every week
3 [deleted] 2014-06-01
Great idea. We should all pitch in and convince Bobo that he could have a podcast audience

Eh, as much as people focus on Opie I don't think I could listen to any of them on their own. All three of them have annoying tendencies that without someone else there to reign them in I feel like they'd all be irritating to listen to and devolve into the same stuff after a while.
I guess if it came down to it and someone had a gun to my head I'd pick Ant since he's good with the jokes and I don't agree with him on lots of issues, but what's the fun in just listening to shit you already agree with?
2 kimchifart 2014-06-01
You're basically saying they are eachother's hole?
2 MezzanineX 2014-06-01
You've just described most of planet earth, including myself and you. Most people alone would be a self centered asshole talking about the same shit eventually.
3 Viking_Lordbeast 2014-06-01
Nah dude, you should hear me talk for 4 hours a day. You'll be amazed and mystified the entire time!
4 pekingoose 2014-06-01
is anyone listening to what Opie says anymore?
5 dochattan 2014-06-01
I'm too busy dropping hammers. Ugh.

What kind of person who is earning a million dollars per year needs to sell 2XL t-shirts for $30 a piece?
Opie. He is so unlikable, his ego needs to be fed 24/7. Whether its through t-shirts or "Funny MoFosDaily."
It's really grotesque.
4 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2014-06-01
I would listen to the Nopie show starring Ant and Jim. I know people like to stick up for Grim shows when Ant isn't in saying it's a nice break, but it's just not - it's a borefest even when they bring in other comics.
4 jeffedge 2014-06-01
seriously. i don't know what people are talking about when they say they balance each other out. maybe back in the day, but opie just isn't up to par. ant and jim are lightning fast and always funny. any time opie isn't in the show is on fire. i know the 'bit' around here is to hate on sam, but he's hilarious too. hell, the whole staff has given me way more laughs than opie ever has. and when opie does make someone laugh he ruins it by repeating it 40 times to make sure everyone knows he said it. if ant is ever not in one day, i usually won't listen because the show fucking sucks. that dude brings so much into the show it's crazy how bad it is when he's gone.

The thing is theyre 2 different kinds of commentators/voices.
To use this analogy as sports commentating, Anthony is more of the play-by-play commentator, he's the one small talking or you could use the word filler, he fills the space between the topics, not in a negative way.
Opie is more the long term host, he brings up topics or being the "mastermind"/theorycrafter of the show(hue), opie isnt funny on a play-by-play basis thats why he brought Anthony in, cause everyone else was a play-by-play commentator back in the day and couldnt deal with Anthony being funnier cus of ego issues, opie saw truly what was best for the show and brought him in even though he knew anthony is funnier.
You cant compare opie and anthony cause theyre 2 different variables in this mess, they synch and mesh perfectly cause of this.
The show works like it does cause opie got the role he have and anthony the same, its just how it is.
tl:dr, I'd probably not listen to anyone cause im still hashing through 2005-2012 shows, I got a few years on me. But O&A is O&A cause of O&A, sure people hate on opie for not being as funny but without him it wouldnt work either
5 DraycosTFM 2014-06-01
Play-by-Play is the straight-man who calls the action. Color Commentator is the expert that interjects the inciteful shit. Ant would be Color, Opie is PBP.
0 pabben1 2014-06-01
sure my bad

Ant. No question. Whoever would listen to Opie is an asshole.

Still waiting for his Simpsons podcast.
2 MaximumUltra 2014-06-01
I don't see them quitting any time soon.
There is no way they would make anywhere near the money they are making now doing something elsewhere.
Going back on terrestrial radio is no longer an option, there are no other satellite radio companies, SirusXM has that monopoly. And if they started a podcast, through sponsors they would maybe make 500k/year split between them.
1 ixcuincle 2014-06-01
Anthony's show would be awesome. Rants every day and he don't' take no phone calls
Fuck, I wish they would replay that jingle again.
1 Unshavenhelga 2014-06-01
So you've heard LFTC, then.
1 ixcuincle 2014-06-01
But then there would be LFTC every day. He also takes calls on LFTC which is weird, but was very vocal against taking calls when he used to guest-host the radio show.
7 Unshavenhelga 2014-06-01
LFTC sucks balls.
1 jeffedge 2014-06-01
this. why does opie even take phone calls? he'll answer it, and then proceed to talk over/interrupt them the whole time.
1 ixcuincle 2014-06-01
Nah, he doesn't talk over them, he lets them blab on and on about lies or lets the caller tell them news that either Sam or Travis could have told them. "Hey guys...I don't know if you saw this on the news today but..."
They blast people for giving them links on Twitter yet they openly take calls from guys giving them stories that everyone in the listening audience has heard.
1 Unshavenhelga 2014-06-01
Neither. And I don't see a O&A podcast as a viable alternative.
1 KylePetrAthanasBurke 2014-06-01
I would listen to old O&A on youtube for a few more years and wait for something to take its place. Like some people or guests we love from the show doing something after they "regroup".
1 cados 2014-06-01
none of them, they all stink alone

Anthony no contest... Patrice had a bit about his girlfriend and it was funniest and most accurate thing ever, that could be said of Opie as well.
He said when you're having a good time and everyone is watching the game or at a BBQ, have you ever thought "damn, this is nice and all, but you know what would make it better? My gf Gina. She sure has good stories, great laugh and is the best to be around. No it's unheard of, it never happened"
That was the bit that made me fall I love with Patrice, it was just so true it hurt

Stern.
0 [deleted] 2014-06-01
I've been doing Back to the Future radio lately - I listen to '87-'97 Stern and I occasionally get to listen to O&A bits that haven't happened yet.

For example?
