Any ideas on what the boys will do after their contract is up?
0 2014-05-28 by LowKeyMike
It seems like they may really leave satellite radio this time (even though they have acted this way before). Any guesses as to what they will all do once the contract is done?
I have a feeling Opie won't do radio for a while and will try to carve another entertainment path for himself. Ant will likely still do radio/podcasting, possibly more political talk based, and Jimmy will try to get more acting roles why still doing some radio as well. Sam will find a hosting gig at SiriusXM, and the rest will likely just get a desk job at SiriusXm or get laid off and find another career...

Ant cant live without the money and Opie cant live without the attention. They'll re-sign.

I could see the Nopie and Anthony show going on with Sam on third mic

I never can see why people think they will hand Sam the reins of a big time show without really any hosting experience. People will always chime in to say Sam will replace Opie and co-host the 'Anthony and Sam' show, or Fez will finally leave and Sam will become Ron's co-host.
Sam is a bat boy. Just because Jeter and A-Rod know his name doesn't mean he's ready to become the starting center fielder. He needs to start at the bottom somewhere hosting mornings in Des Moines and work his way up.

Opie isn't 'funny' (in the traditional witty/comedic sense) either. Sam is an Opie - he knows how to stir the pot/develop conflict, and organize things. Sam is also a good 'straight man', he knows how to play off of funny people and set them up.What Sam has over Opie is that he knows that and he doesn't have (or hasn't yet built) the ego that makes Opie so annoying sometimes. The shit show is great when he's paired up with someone like whookid and he did pretty well on the Ron and Sammy Sweetheart show a few years back.
I don't think he'll get the reigns handed to him and I don't think he's at the requisite level yet, but I do think Sam is talented and can be very entertaining.

It's been pointed out in here before that Sam is a good interviewer too. I like his podcast/show better than the pre/post shows where he just has to gossip and recap.

Good analysis.

The guys gave him a great job. He won't do anything nearly as big when they're done but he'll be on the air somewhere.
My opinion differs because for whatever reason, I don't find him entertaining but that doesn't mean that I don't think he'll find a place doing something else. It will most likely not be as high profile though.

But some people love to hear an hour of Ant doing the slide whistle thingy.

You make some good points. The only thing I would add is that Anthony wouldn't need Opie specifically to have a good show. He would need someone to rein him in and steer the show, maybe Ron, but Opie isn't a necessity for Anthony to be a success.

I'm really curious what Patton Oswalt's suggestion was to the boys as to what they should do after leaving Sirius.

Opie will try to go it himself through podcasting, video, and consulting. The problem is that he has the intellect of a wet sock and the comedic insight of your average open mic-er. The problem for the Opester, is that he really thinks he's a master of all three. He has zero self-awareness. I hope he has money under the mattress.
Ant, if he so chose, could catch on in any market for a conservative/comedic morning show, like the Regular Guys in Atlanta.
Jim, well, he paid off his apartment in Manhattan. He can do shows and live off that money.
Sam will go to WWE to write or a Top 40 Station to do mornings. He'll get paid more than at Sirius/XM.

If Opie tried to retire from radio, his wife would probably get sick of him being around all day and make him get another job. I know I wouldn't want to spend my whole day with that idiot man-child.
He could do a morning show like The Todd Show easily.

"his wife would make him get another job" ...... not everyone is as pussy whipped as u

Ronnie B once said he could replace Fez with a bowl of gravy and the show would go along just as smoothly. I think if Opie doesn't want to continue then it should be the Gravy and Anthony show ft. Jim Norton for now on.

They're going to give up their million dollar gig and go and hang around Jackie the Jokeman.

It's a good show, the three of them know they crank out good radio. I think they will plug along; I hope they do. I have a toilet drive to work everyday, and that garbage ass show...honestly makes it a lot more bearable.
On a personal side, I wonder if outlasting Howey and just seeing what type of treatment they get after he is gone play, any, if at all into the decision making for them?. After all, so much cash frees up, after Stern bails.

Re-sign, complain, Re-sign, complain, repeat. No one on the show seems to be too interested in risk-taking at this point in life. Opie's got a wife and 2 kids (one in private school) as well as a Manhattan apartment. Anthony's got a mansion, a drinking problem, and a gambling addiction to fund and Norton's got an expensive apartment and a comedic career is (according to him) in a bit of a slump. No one on the show is young enough or reckless enough to put those things at risk by going back to terrestrial or (as they continually threaten) doing a podcast.
Sirius is too easy for them - they get a steady stream of who-gives-a-shit guests and enough management stuff to bitch about to fill up their shows. The lack of ratings, lack of a competitive environment, and (essentially) captive audience means they have no pressure to do better radio.
I don't really blame them for re-signing and taking the safe road- I would too. But enough with the, "we're really not going to re-sign this time." It's not fooling anyone, the audience doesn't believe it, and the bosses don't believe it either. Sirius knows show comfortable they are and how complacent the show's become.

Enough with the babbling. They aren't going anywhere.
1 Rondog01 2014-05-28
They should branch out into a new medium. Pandora? Beats? Are there anymore streaming outlets the bits can move to?
1 MartyVanB 2014-05-28
They are leaving S/XM. I mean how horrible is that place. Why on Earth would they reup?

Money.

I imagine if Opie continued it'd be like Farve going to the Vikings. Yeah he can still do it, but no one really wants him to.
0 opiesucks 2014-05-28
Hopefully Ant and Jim continue being hilarious and entertaining while Opie takes a long walk off a short pier, if you know what i mean.
16 Taurox 2014-05-28
If he takes a long walk he would fall off though. Because it is a short pier.
