For all the beatings Guy Fieri gets from the boys, you gotta respect one thing
76 2014-05-08 by [deleted]
At least he follows through with hooking the boys up with food. Today he brought in ribs, wings, tacos, etc. He comps the show crew at his restaurant. He doesn't try to be a pretentious elitist fuck, he is content with being a dope. Bourdain and him are the only bearable food guys on the show, and the funny thing is, they still make time to hang with the boys despite them being much more busier and famous than the cronut guy and Roland's cronies.
I used to despite Guy Fieri, but seeing him come back on the show time and time again and take his beatings in stride has made me respect him a lot more. Plus, he slipped sober Sam alcohol, insulted Lady Di, and is a fan of Denny.
ROCK N' ROLL!

He needs 2 beards.

Maybe him and his wife have an open relationship? Just because he's a coozehound, doesn't make him a bad guy.
1 HANKKKINGSLEY 2014-05-08
Even with him being a good sport I still despite him

He rolls with punches, actually has some funny lines, and doesn't trip all over his own balls to promote himself and occasionally takes a back seat to the action. He's a good fucking guest.

He had a cookbook for grilled food I think.

Guy's a trooper I don't mind him at all

Guy's a trooper who likes it in the pooper.

Yeah, I don't mind him at all on the show. He's cheesy and an easy target to make fun, and often deserves to be made fun of, but he's alright. At the least, he enjoys the boys' sense of humor and isn't afraid to laugh at stuff that some guests might be more hesitant around. Like OP said, he had no trouble laughing at the tragic wreck that is Lady Di, and even joining in on the insults. Not all guests would be onboard or understand that Lady Di is a target. As strong as the initial urge to dismiss him is, he's actually a pretty decent guest.

He's cheesy as fuck and easy to pick on but overall I don't mind the guy. He's doing what he wants to do which is all that matters I guess. He's also not one of these complete food snobs that will snub 'pedestrian' food which is refreshing.
9 NoirMagieGateau 2014-05-08
He found a gimmick for himself and is cashing in. While not elitist and kind of base, you shouldn't knock the guy because it's dumb.

Yea and his history in the good industry is just normal jobs that he worked his way up. He wasn't some classically trained chef from an island in France who studied for 20 years
2 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2014-05-08
He did study culinary arts in France though, which does give him some legitimacy. He's not just some schlub off the streets who started a food truck.
2 mancubuss 2014-05-08
right, I guess I mean is he's more of a relatable cook.
1 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2014-05-08
I gotcha, I was just adding to what you said.
5 ScoleriBrother 2014-05-08

Went to a diner that had a plaque on the wall that an episode of DD&D was filmed there (just below Donner Pass ironically). It really sucked.
1 thescrapplekid 2014-05-08
It may be dumb, but it works.... so that makes it genius

I wish I had a gimmick. If I was paid well enough to get farted on by Roland, I would do it. This dude lives better than any of us, and all he does is yell "rock and roll" with frosted tips.
2 NoirMagieGateau 2014-05-08
People like him and Larry The Cable Guy get shit on constantly, but they did what most wouldn't and couldn't do and there is something slightly respectable about that. Guy gets picked on for looking like he just jumped out of a mid 90's Ska band's video, but as people have said, he is far more successful than most respected chefs.
2 Fat_Head_Carl 2014-05-08
I'm actually amazed at Larry the Cable Guy's work ethic. Yeah, he's lowest common denominator comedy, but I remember watching an interview of how he worked his way to where he is now. He was doing like 10-12 phoners a day to various radio stations when he was getting started.
Do I like his comedy anymore, no, but I don't hate the guy.

I actually do kind of enjoy Diners Drive-ins and Dives. But every time I see him wear his fucking sunglasses on the back of his neck I want to slap them right off of him.
4 CasinoIndian 2014-05-08
I'd like him better if Fieri was his real last name and he didn't pronounce it "Fietti" like a douchebag.
5 rrussom 2014-05-08
I'd like him better if he was made to eat the eggs instead of Smash mouth.
1 xBrianSmithx 2014-05-08
Some times you change your name to avoid being called "a Ferry". Other times you want to throw back to part of your lineage.
Why did Guy change his last name from Ferry to Fieri? From http://guyfieri.blogspot.com/2009/01/frequently-asked-questions-about-guy.html
Guy changed his name when he got married in 1995; he wanted to honor his immigrant grandfather. blog post Guy's great-grandfather's name was Giuseppe Fieri.
1 CasinoIndian 2014-05-08
Call me crazy, but something about Guy Fieri suggests he didn't change his name to honor anybody.
3 MrTimSmith 2014-05-08
Hated the dude but him taking the hair dresser jokes made me like him. A little.
-2 Motorboat_Jones 2014-05-08
He took that well and even through some shit back at the guys about how they don't always get along. He's obviously heard the shows where Opie is a dickface.

the thing that bothers me most about Guy Ferrari is when he is shouting out of his convertible on that show.
5 CUNTYMOM 2014-05-08
ive always wanted to see an outtake where he rear ends a car doing that
"HI IM GUY FERRARI, AND WHEN I THINK OF BURGERS I THINK OF-CRASHHHHHHHH"

light flakey crust.. kicks butt

T&R's bits they'd do when he'd call in used to be pretty funny
2 Metrostars1029 2014-05-08
Opie playing the Homer Simpson "BOOOO" soundbit after Guy telling the boys that his father was still alive..... hardest laughe i've had in a while
2 andrewsj1 2014-05-08
Just heard his appearance. Great one. Funny, not over doin it, not over promoting. He rolled with the punches, immediately picked up on the lady di bit.

I thought they specifically said that he didn't bring anything in because he feels he's above it. I still respect him because he takes a beating and keeps coming back.
1 multiplesifl 2014-05-08
Would that sneaky alcohol consumption be as funny if it had been Jimmy?

Guy's new menu is badass: www.highwaytotheflavorzone.com
1 rottenseed 2014-05-08
My biggest problem with him is that he seems fake. Like his whole existence is an act. But I guess becoming enraged and butthurt isn't part of his easy-going character so I suppose it's not a bad thing. Maybe I'd respect him more if I saw him be human. Or maybe even do some lines like Anthony Bourdain.
0 LizardKingRumsfeld 2014-05-08
Yeah I cut off my nose despite my face uh sumptin tss

Why doesn't Sam drink anyway? He's not a recovering alcoholic, is he?
-1 Djs3634 2014-05-08
I didn't hear the show today but lemme guess, opie beat him up cause he acts needy.
-2 [deleted] 2014-05-08
Yeah he gives them food, that's just fucking great
-4 bigchair 2014-05-08
He seems like a decent guy but the whole rock n roll thing doesn't seem like a bit. Seems like that's really him
3 thebedshow 2014-05-08
He has like 5 shows based on that personality, even if it wasn't him he can't exactly break out of it.
3 Earguy 2014-05-08
Yeah, like Larry the Cable Guy. A character that took over his life.
