Has the show 'passed you by'?

I don't think you really understand the amount of negative feedback and pure hate the hosts get. Every single day, every hour, every time they open their twitter etc. accounts. Opie has hinted he still has IRL stalkers too. Hundreds of voices constantly screaming how shitty they are and what is wrong with their life's work.

A lot of people can't handle it. Many of these new youtube celebrities just fold under the pressure, get depressed etc.

But of course...your feelings are hurt when the hosts don't want to listen to some random shitfaces' "constructive critisism" and rather just send them on their way. What the fuck.

To be fair, they haven't really given a shit about the listeners for several years now. Howard's been the same for years too. He's actually said that he just does the show he wants to do now and he'll continue to do whatever he wants as long as he has an audience. If the audience leaves, he'll simply just retire. I think O&A are in the same boat.

When a show starts reformatting to meet the demands of smaller chunks of the audience, or even larger chunks, the thing that made the show successful will diminish.

More simply put, the changes/suggestions some members might suggest could further alienate a much larger group of fans.

Jesus dude. It's a radio show.

If you don't enjoy it, and feel so emotionally vested into it, you should reevaluate some things.

Emotionally vested? You fucking zero.

Love you too qt.

The difference is that /u/TEDS_CAKE_EMPORIUM will probably be ok with just unsubscribing from the subreddit if he starts to not enjoy it. He won't feel entitled to having everything his way and accept that it's not his subreddit. It doesn't have to make itself fit what he wants just because.

I can't tell if you're trolling. For some reason you picked out one of the only people whose username is dedicated to the show to make that point?

edit: Is there an Opie_WAAF_Skateboarder still posting somewhere?

I'm saying that as one listener, OP is no more entitled to have any influence on how the show progresses than Ted is to have everyone on this subreddit keep conversations and opinions in line with what he wants.

I only joined Reddit around last September during the "cake gate"

This is about the only subreddit I look at. I don't really care about what someones girlfriends dog looks like.

Wut. Just because you like to discuss something doesn't mean it consumes your life.

I never said that. And I understand - I think - what your post was about.

The show has been a big part of your life since you've begun listening to it. It's 4 hours of your day, 5 days a week. They've delved into and revealed personal and intimate things about their lives on the show. It makes the audience feel like they know them. You probably know more shit about the things they've done with their lives than some of your friends.

So it's understandable to feel weird about letting go now that you feel the show has passed you by or you've passed the show by.

"Leaving" the show feels like you're leaving a group of friends. You feel like you'll be missing out on the fun things they say and do. I understand that. But people move on from relationships all the time. Sometimes its easy, sometimes its hard.

I still enjoy the show and like keeping up with it.

When I stop enjoying it, I'll stop listening. And I won't make a peep.

It sort of hurts

Go outside, find some friends.

I think their attitude towards listeners is appropriate. The amount of hate they get via twitter, email, youtube, this sub, etc., is unbelievable. There's always some shitdick like the caller from today who is whining about "ehhhhh why don't you do the wiffleball bat challenges anymore" and "ehhhhhh you guys used to have naked chicks in studio".

You're stuck in the past. The show has had to evolve due to a litany of reasons: management has changed and is way more conservative - the days of Eric Logan are long long gone; the radio landscape has changed; the hosts are getting old; their hardcore audience that has been with them since the start are getting old too; their comic friends are dying or moving on from them; and so on.

So your choice is pretty simple: keep listening, or don't. At some point you have to accept that it's their names on the wall, not "Opie & Anthony: An Interactive Radio Show" where you can feel entitled to a "Choose your own adventure" radio show.

Opie's words today about this were spot-on... Things change, people change. Maybe the show just isn't for you anymore. There's a lot of things I used to enjoy but just aren't for me anymore. Smoking... Drugs.... Eating ramen noodles for dinner.... Going to keg parties on campus... Drinking soda... Drinking cheap beer. Happens in music all the time. How often do we hear about bands either "selling out" or "not making music like they used to"? Maybe it isn't that. Maybe the band evolved into something different that just isn't in your wheelhouse, but it may be in someone elses. Millions of people bought and enjoyed Metallica's 'Load'. I wasn't one of them. Metallica just wasn't for me anymore. Let Go. Move on. If you're one of the people who still listens every day but comes on here or on twitter to bitch, maybe you need a new hobby, or radio show. Face it. The boys don't care about what the chronic bitchers think. I don't blame them. I wouldn't care either. You aren't their audience.

Are you reading what you're writing? Jesus fuck I am almost embarrassed for you.

I'm a huge fan but if I don't like it I just don't listen for extended periods of time. I missed the entire year of O&A in 2012 because I wasn't interested in the show. My life doesn't revolve around the show, the show is a small part of my day and is easily replaceable. What do you do for a living to make it that important to you?

Or perhaps you simply take a radio show way too seriously

The left me behind in some ways, but I still listen. They've told all their stories, they just seem burned out and just watching the clock, with the occasional interesting guest or topic. They're not dangerous anymore. They're like a rock band that scares parents and gives kids a thrill when they come out of nowhere...and now they're mid forty, with a growing waistline, and they're onstage to make the mortgage payment.

I really wondering if they're saving stuff for the day they're off Sirius. They don't even try anymore for contests, or bits, or new freaks, or any kind of audience participation, kind of like "Well, if you won't support us, fuck you, we're keeping our best stuff away from you."

Granted, 90% of what made them fun to listen to is now banned by the lawyers and management at Sirius.

Mid-40's? Lol

It sort of hurts too, the radio-listening platform is a very intimate experience

You gay

DAS' WHY YOU GAY!

I've been with these assholes since 98 and I'm riding this shit out to the bitter end.

Seriosuly tho - as a computer bound desk jockey I have been a talk radio fan my entire adult life. As much as I love podcasts they aren't the same because they lack the immediacy of the talk format. Hell, I like DJ's on music stations. I admit it. So this is - to me - the last stand of talk radio and it would have to run very, very cold for me to bail. It hasn't yet.

Im pretty close. I think most of the rejection of the audience is from opie since he is by FAR the stupidest and most untalented and see's the most hate because of it and gets fed up. Unfortunately he is also the most vocal and since he is a baby the other guys cant challange him. But yea, they do seem lazier with the stupid food segments and dumb shit like the samsung plugs both of which I immediately turn off. They should fire opie and fez and make a super show featuring Anthony, Ron, Jim and Sam. That would rule

[deleted]

Opie should be sentenced to a lifetime of radio with Fez. Best of Opie and Fez could play on the weekends.

So not only did you make a bitch about the show thread, you also had to display your unwarranted self-importance by announcing you will not listen anymore. Neat.

If you ever do find the perfect radio show let me know and I'll go listen to that instead. Until then go cry about how the hosts of your formerly favorite show hurt your feelings you fucking baby.

Sounds like o.p. just figured out hes a covino and rich fan. Please change the station. Listen to jew old lady and replays during the am/ pm tune to 2shitdicks playing to fag moms.

No wait, oh wait, I got it... HE MUST BE A HOO HOO LOVER!

I invented Hoo Hoo lover, you Hoo Hoo lover. Where were you when phony O&A fans were downvoting me for calling people out for being Hoo Hoo lovers?

I've thought about quitting for one single reason. Four hours a day, five days a week is a shit ton of time. Like too much.

People lie about how much they're into the show on here. Eastside Dave is a perfect example. Literally had more comments about how Sirius was screwing him over and how good his show was, and how he shouldn't be fired than he does listeners/viewers for his UStream shows. Can't break over 50 views. Gets about 5 retweets on a good day. And that's not me being a hater, it's just good to keep in mind that most people on here aren't as obsessive as they seem and most people probably don't catch every minute of the show every week.

If ESD were really that popular, they wouldn't have cut him. His show wasn't bringing in the listeners, and he also decided to shoot himself in the dick by not showing up for his second show after coming back on the air.

I agree. But if you said that a few months ago when he was fired your post would have been at -10 by now. There are a lot of fanboy/weirdos on here. I mean half the people on here probably write wrestling fan fiction for fucks sake. 50/50 that if O&A didn't know Louis CK and they were still the people they were 8 years ago they would be goofing on him nowadays.

How much middle-management jizz do you happily choose to swallow?

Despite the all the clumsy lies, it was quickly established that Dave was not sacked due to being ill, and yet you insist on repeatedly regurgitating that painfully transparent management story.

If you didn't like the show, that would be one thing. But to demean yourself by carrying water for budget-squeezing management liars is quite another, you really should have more self-respect.

I swallow buckets of it.

I don't listen to Ron & Fez and I find Eastside Dave marginally entertaining. I do listen everyday, and it's draining. They really should switch to a once a week four hour podcast, but that Sirius money tho.

I'm in between jobs right now so I have plenty of time in between doing interviews and filling out applications and resume building, but I feel like that's four hours I could be watching a movie or tittyfucking a fat girl.

You could titty fuck fat girls while you're listening to O&A or even Ron & Fez.

No aw-roight!

In all seriousness, I don't know why people are attacking you. There are a lot of people that have invested time/energy/emotions into the show over the years. Some fans have actually even invested money/time/work on promoting the show, as crazy as that seems. A lot of people have left over the years, and a lot of new people have come along. I mean, are the people that uploaded and host their old WNEW shows still fans of the show? How about the people that did show rundowns for years for free? The biggest haters on here are ex-superfans that know a lot about the show.

[deleted]

Nah, you're fine. Quit being defensive, you weirdo.

I was just giving you hope that in 5 years you can become /u/opiestits /u/ShakesTheClown- /u/dugoutdoug (also known as /u/bensparks) /u/planet_bullshit , etc. And you can be profound by cryptically bringing up obscure show references. Maybe say, "Ask Ant how he likes his Samsung phone" or "This is worse than that time they let Roland talk about cronuts. No wonder their audience left them."

TROLL WAR!

I actually like all of them, that's why I know their names :)

[deleted]

Sorry, but that's not my fault, that's your fault. No one really cares. Just go live your life and keep on truckin'. I look forward to your reincarnation as /u/dugoutdoug

My favorite moment in the history of the show was the stealing of a borderline homeless listeners wig. I care not how they treat "listener", just be entertaining and help me get to and through work.

There is nothing better in the morning in terms of live radio entertainment. I could see myself listening to something else, but there is nothing that I have found to be as entertaining.

Some of the staff members and guests stink, but there is not much out there that is better.

"Then get the fuck out faggot!" Bobby Kelly

I am hanging on till October I guess. Of course, when Oct gets here they WILL reup with SXM despite Opie's pathetic attempts at bluffing. There is no where else to go. The show has just been going slowly downhill. The non funny rants about people like Donald Sterling, the watching videos, the food shows, etc. When I can accurately predict what they are going to say what is the fun in that? Thinking about just doing podcasts full time.

No one forces anyone to listen, you do or don't.

Just stop then, seriously, you are turning this into an egotistical issue about yourself, when honestly, no one cares.

i stopped listening due to Opie. Believe it or not but I can't stand that dude. I only tune in if theres some news event I want the great Anthony Cumias take on.

Damn really? This whole time I thought you were a fan of good ol' GH

To be fair, they haven't really given a shit about the listeners for several years now. Howard's been the same for years too. He's actually said that he just does the show he wants to do now and he'll continue to do whatever he wants as long as he has an audience. If the audience leaves, he'll simply just retire.
