Drinking: Where are you at?

I was reading the Attell post regarding him smoking 2 packs a day and was wondering where you guys are with drinking. I'm 38, recently quit smoking and cut out my drinking in a major way. Starting about 8 years ago, I would buy beer on my way home from work and couldn't wait to get home to crack one open. Once I was home, around 4 PM, I would sit out in the back yard with a 12 pack and have at it. Usually finish it around 5:30 or 6, eat dinner and then take a quick nap. Wake up and open up a bottle of red wine or two until about 2 AM. Had to be up at 6. I repeated that for quite awhile. I then laid off the booze, still drank everyday but nowhere near as much. This past winter, after a break up, I was at it again, this time, Vodka, though. I would demolish bottles of vodka on a nightly basis. On the weekends I would wake up at 6 or so, and start drinking until about 10 AM, or until I passed out. I would then repeat the process throughout the day and night until Monday morning came.

Nowadays, I started lifting again. Starting training for a marathon. My diet is basically vegetarian and am in amazing shape for a 38 year old. I now limit myself to two IPA's or 3 light beers on a nightly basis.

Just wondering where you guys are at concerning alcohol.

And if pot was legal, or if my job didn't test for it, I would barely touch alcohol except in social situations, or when I'm grilling out, shit like that.

Just cut down, the worst thing than an annoying drunk is an annoying self righteous dry...

You cut down? Or are you telling me to cut down? If the latter, I did.

What are ya, a fuckin lumberjack or sumthin?

Shit, college doesn't count. We got ripped 7 days a week, and it was expected of us. But yeah, cutting down and trying new beers and wine is where I'm at. Enjoying them for the taste, not the effect. I couldn't imagine a life sober.

I drink on a regular basis. I meet friends in bars twice a week or so and generally get a sixer when we grocery shop. I haven't been drunk in a long time but I enjoy a drink or two. I don't know many non drinkers and I know one guy who I think has a problem.

My ex thought I had a problem when I would have a few beers in the evening while making dinner, eating dinner and after dinner. But it may have totaled 3 or 4, at the most. She didn't drink at all. So, yeah, there are some people who don't drink at all who will view anyone who does, as a problem.

My family are much bigger drinkers than me and my wife is from England so there's no one in my life who gives me a hard time about it.

Beer has a low apv, only problem it would give you is the carbs

Ah I gotcha, yeah if you can handle it and enjoy it,create no problems, etc then why not continue enjoying it?

I'll take down a half pint of jager and 3 beers 3-4 nights a week... But my wife gets nasty when I drink....

Even when I was drinking heavily, my drinking wasn't a nuisance to anyone because as I live alone. But jager? You really like that stuff? Try a nice aged bourbon or scotch instead.

Haha I like that too, but it's to "fortify" a good bells 2 hearted ale, hooves rye, etc to keep costs down on decent beer, and less filling too. Lol

Dude, Bell's Two Hearted is second favorite beer. Dogfish Head 75 minute is my number one. It's *infffuuuuused with maple.

*Fuck Opie and his use of infused.

When I used to drink a lot I'd do the top shelf down method. Start with a real nice whiskey or scotch then to a okay but kinda cheap, then bottom shelf (i.e Makers to Jim Beam to something in a dusty plastic jug).

I'm 28 and currently working on my drinking, I don't drink many days a week but when I do drink I drink a ton. I am starting to work out more and am watching my diet so booze is one of the things I'm cutting out. Also, you said you are lifting and shit again so I recommend doing Hindu squats and push ups if you aren't already doing that.

My chest work outs consists only only push ups. I have 'The Rack' and the perpect push up device. An hour of that 3 days a week will shred your chest. For cardio I usually run 3 days a week. One short run at 8 miles, one medium run at 10 miles and one long run between 13 to 15 miles.

Stay away from the vodka, bro.

Quit buying it.

I'm 25. I drink on a very regular basis, usually Seagrams 7 and club soda. And I smoke about a half a pack a day. Really want to quit smoking, but drinking doesn't seem to be a problem for me. I'm in decent shape, and I'm pretty much vegan for breakfast and lunch most days, and then I just eat whatever I want for dinner. So idk I'm doing alright and I've been this way for years.

When I drank vodka I'd mix with with Diet Cranberry. Helped keep off the weight.

Vodka is prob the most weight/health conscious hard alcohol. Even with just club soda/seltzer and a squeeze of lemon or lime is good.

Just fucks you up too quickly. I can't sit down and have a few vodkas while watching a movie or TV. And hour later I have no idea what's going on.

E-cigs. Fucking magic. Switched to them kept away the craving. Had one first a day, then every other, then every week. Now a non smoker and didn't even feel hard, felt like it naturally went away.

I think my worst was 18 beers a night, on a weeknight. Like you, I cut that shit out and went to the gym and got addicted to lifting instead of alcohol. Then the last break up I fell back into old habits. Good for you, man. I'm where you are at now, except I didn't stop completely.

Good for you. If only jpevear would see the light. Save yourself before its too late.

I'm good for three strong whiskey drinks a night, and I mean strong. However, my main vice is ripping bong hits, maaaaaan.

I only wish I could smoke. Did the spice thing for awhile to bypass drug tests, but that shit is risky as I can only get it through the mail.

Been a subscriber to /r/cripplingalcoholism for quite some time now. Go figure.

I drank a ton. Mentioned in this sub before. Six pack and bottle of something hard a day. Your tolerance goes up as you drink, but at a certain point my health took a hit. Fainting spells, never blacked out but my short term memory went to shit, couldn't remember what I was referencing in the middle of a sentence, always had some sort of cold.

Cut back. Trying to get in good shape know. Started doing crossfit, MMA. Both to be healthy and to get laid easier. Drink rarely and as I'm out of practice my days of drinking anyone under the table have left. To tell you the truth I miss the last part was pretty damned proud of it.

You would drink 12 beers in 2 hours? How is that even possible? I'll drink 12 beers on a Friday Night, but that's from around 6-12.

Parents were alcoholics and smoke like chimneys. I do neither because it's annoying and disgusting. I'll never understand the tolerance for a drunk person, but it probably helps if you are too.

Just stop totally. Do you really need two IPA's? Just quit its the best thing for you drunkie.

But I love beer..... Truly love the taste. And it's not like I crave more than 2 or 3. Having one beer just doesn't seem right.

IPAs are pretty fucking tasty - especially some of that Vermont shit.

What are some of them other IPAs we got?

Dogfish Head 60 Minute, Bells' Hop Slam, Green Flash West Coast

Hopslam drink pretty good.

Whole Foods here in VA Beach has a little restaurant called The Porch that has 4 beers on tap and they rotate the kegs almost daily. $4 a pint. It's a great, cheap way to try out new IPA's. Also have specials like two gigantic pizza slice (wood fired oven) and a pint for $8. Tonight's special is 2 lbs of wings for $10. I used to think only uppity assholes shop there, and they most likely do, but I kind of like that place. And their beer selection inside the store is pretty great, too.
