What do you think about the treatment of women by the hosts and fans, generally speaking? Are they fair? If not, do you think it is reflective of anything psychologically?
I'm ambivalent about the treatment of women on the show, meaning the co-existence of both repulsion and laughter within myself. All day I help people process their trauma, mostly military sexual trauma or combat, and when I get into the car I just want to laugh away any of the pain that I've absorbed between 8:00am and 4:30pm. It's for entertainment and I don't take it seriously. Sometimes when someone is sharing with me their childhood molestation story, the Uncle Paul theme will pop into my head and it keeps me sane. Burnout in my field is HUGE and listening to the show is self-care for me.
I do worry about the attitude of the fans towards women. With the last two live events, I really wanted to go, but I would have to go alone because my husband is not a fan at all. I don't think a woman could go to an O&A event safely. Maybe if I were a Lady Trucker or Lady Di type, yeah. Even though I'm a Veteran, I don't think I'd be safe.
I'd probably date the older, mellow Opie we have now. I wouldn't date Ant because he reminds me of my NY Guinea dad. Jimmy reminds me of the whiny fucks that I treat, so I wouldn't even go there. Sam is a rising star I'd hitch myself too. This ethnically ambiguous look is pretty hot.
