Was Russell Simmon's right about the whole beef thing?

I know beef is ultimately bad for you but is it really as bad as smoking cigarettes if so I'm gonna cut it out of my diet

No. He was wrong; he was repeating a much-hyped headline that the mainstream news got wrong (as usual). If you're interested you should read this article from the National Health Services, in the UK:

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2014/03March/Pages/high-protein-diet-may-be-harmful-for-middle-aged.aspx

TL/DR:

1) The study found no overall negative effect when averaging across all the participants. To find the a negative effect, the authors had to split the population based on age. Once they did, they found negative effects for certain ages (50-65), but positive effects for other ages (65+).

2) The effects were based on amount of protein, not type (e.g. animal vs plant ) like Russel claimed.

3) Finally, the authors made absolutely no comparison to smoking. That was just a click-bait comparison made to sensationalize the results.

When you find no effects on average, and need to split the population to find the effects, then that's an immediate red flag. Why would there be negative effects at some ages but not others? Why would there be positive effects at some ages but not others? Are the cut-offs they chose meaningful or justified? Why not choose other groupings of age?

Thanks for condensing, but could you "TL;DR" your "TL;DR"?

But he said he heard it on Dr. Oz, and Dr. Oz is never full of shit.

No.

Or a great question for Dr. Steve! /r/DrSteve

Eating beef won't give you lung cancer, for fuck's sake.

A good lean, clean piece of meat is way better than the processed boxed heat-n-serve garbage people pollute themselves with.

Says the guy who heated up a grocery store pizza for dinner.

I didn't hear him mention it yet.

But beef isn't exactly a healthy meat to consume. But once in awhile its fine, won't kill ya.

Seriously? You believe something from CBS?

I'll have to find you a link from niggermania

God,that was a good line. well done

Line of the day!

No.

He ought to go back to hawking debit cards on daytime TV. It's amazing the shit that comes out of the mouth of black "community leaders."

Let me guess, a beef advocacy group refused him a "donation" to one of his "outreach groups." Why doesn't he go after fried chicken joints that dot his constituency? The fried chicken joints don't have a lobby in Washington. There's no money in going after them.

Beef is healthy in moderate amounts. It's healthier than consuming processed flour (Roland's first love) or starches like fries or potato chips.

He's a vegetarian and he talked about how he hated all kinds of meat on the show(insert dick joke here)

Why didn't he target Crown Fried Chicken? I don't think people in the Bronx are eating Sirloins or Filet Mignon.

He did mention chicken...

Is Louis Farrakhan still schilling for scientology?

Simmons is a fucking idiot so I'm going to go ahead and say no.

uhhhhhhh yes what happens is there is a significant amount of FLUID in a persons genitals when beef is consumed. This FLUID is toxic and can be built up in the scrotum in which a large colored gentleman would have to then suck out the toxins from the urethra.

Moderation, right? You can smoke an occasional cigarette. you can eat an occasional steak. You can suck some occasional fuckin PECKAHS! tsss

well the thing is I think I do eat something beef-related at least 3x a week

i think it depends where the meat comes from. If you're eating fast food 3 times a week, you're probably eating meat that has been deathly sick before it was mercifully killed. That has to take a toll on the quality of meat. But if you find some humane farmers who allow their cows free range, then that meat is probably less harmful.

In fact Rogan did a great podcast with Joel Salatin who talks about this issue. You might wanna check it out. There's also a book called fast food nation which goes into the disgusting practices of factory farms. Then there's a documentary called food inc. Then there's a ton of brutal peta videos. If all that doesn't make you rethink what meat you put in your mouth (peckahs) I don't know...maybe you should just keep eating meat.

I need to check that out and I eat a lot of steak and homemade burgers and things of that sort
