SiriusXM doesn't deserve a classy guy like Dr. Steve.

He's truly a great man and a wealth of great info.

Dr Steve has got to find a way to make more than 24 bucks.

Podcasting? Can you make more than 24 bucks podcasting?

Ting gives their customers $50 for their first referral.Audible's affiliate program gives you $10 everytime someone signs up for a free trial and $25 for a membership.

With an actual sponsor, I'm sure he could find someone willing to throw him $50 for a 1 minute commercial at the start of his podcast if he could get at least 1000 downloads per episode.

It's beyond insulting to be sending him that cheque.

He already does a podcast. He just did his 100th episode, actually.

Dr. Steve is a saint. I called into weird medicine on a Sunday afternoon and left a message. A few hours later Dr. Steve texted me back personally about the condition!

AIDS?

It's pronounced, "AAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!"

we can only hope

What a class act!

It sucks but they do it because they can.

If people refused to do a show for peanuts, they'd have to pay up. People will do the show for peanuts so they can pay it.

WHAT ARE DEY A BUNCHA ELEPHANTS OR SUMPTHIN TSSS

tsss pay up, why don't they buy down tsss

This is how most business works. I worked for a company years ago, that was laying off people due to "the bad economy", but the CEO and all of his suckups got bonuses, went on an extremely expensive, everything paid for week long "retreat", and installed a new $50,000 lobby, while laying off people with kids.

Same at my work. Laid off for the winter, i'm a student and NEED the money... come back and find out they had new employees taking place for the ones laid off.

Fucking bullshit

I worked somewhere where they literally fired everyone they were paying and replaced them with double the manpower of unpaid interns (although they all blew it and the place closed).

I'm sure Anthony will tell you they earned it, ugh

Because people are willing to sell them their content for pennies. From a business perspective, why would you pay someone more then what you needed to? Would Steve provide 100x the listeners/revenue if they paid him $2,400?

From a human perspective, it's horseshit, but business-wise it's shrewd.

Good thing he has that medical degree to fall back on.

That's just embarrassing. Doctor Steve rules.

The company really is a hunk of shit.

And just think; that's "over budget" for them.

Ya seen this article how all the CEO/Management jerk offs got GIANTS raises. But they can't throw Dr. Steve more than that huh?

The board of directors approves this shit and the board is elected by the shareholders. Blame O&A's shitty agent for years of terrible negotiations and their no prep show style carrying over into their business deals.

Exactly. They are the only ones to blame for their situation.

Truth bomb.

Broadcast talent is easy to find.

CEOs and management make a lot of money, but their jobs are REALLY FUCKING HARD.

The pay for both of these roles is set accordingly.

Their jobs aren't actually that hard...

They really are. A lot of those guys work 75 or 80 hours a week, every week. Sure thwy make a lot of money but it's a supply and demand thing. Few people can do that job.

I know it's not a popular thing to say to the Regular Joes but it's the truth. Corporate leadership is hard to find and hence not cheap

Stressful? Sure. Time consuming? Absolutely. Difficult? Not really... At least most of the time. All they do is make decisions based on other people's proposals. Essentially, they just are just choosing from a list of multiple choice answers... Professional test takers except they don't have to pick the correct answer to be rewarded. The hard jobs are the engineers, doctors, scientists.... Not CEOs. They should be paid well since they are the face of their company but it is out of control in the US. This is a relatively recent phenomenon as well... For most of the rest of the world, their salaries are much more in line. Look at Japan, for example.

He should start selling snake oil.

Dr. Steve would make more money selling prescription drugs on the streets

He sells to Chris Stanley, there's none left for the streets.

What about Pepper and Hicks?

No no no... there's Pepper, Stanley, Hicks, and Chris. All different dudes.

Well...no shit.

Fucking scumbags. Dr. Steve deserves no less than Howard Treatment.

The saddest part is that they pay him minimum wage for hours of radio generated, while retain full rights to his show, the show name and his radio name.

At least Vince McMahon paid a living wage when he retained a wrestler's ring name.

Sirius worse than the WWE

That's the real issue right here. Sirius got a huge bargain for those rights, but I'm betting it might have been a worthwhile deal for Steve if it got more people interested in his podcast.

No joke. This is my take home pay. Not that I'm worth any more than this\, I get it\, but still. ;-)

[Mistake?] [Suggestion] [FAQ] [Code] [Issues]

Doesn't he make around $90-100 a show?

If so what all gets taken out? What is the fucking tax rate in NYC?

It's probably considered "supplemental income" which gets taxed at a huge rate.

This is fucking criminal. I'd take it to the labor board.

how old is Dr. Steve?

He's gotta be like 15 or 16.

14, same age as Patrice.

How much is his show actually worth? He is probably making more off of his podcast and site advertisements than Sirius is making from his airing his show.

I have nothing against Dr. Steve, but he is not an irreplaceable talent. He is not even doing a major show. He is aired on Saturday night when no one is actually listening to radio.

Remember when the show was on CBS? Steve S from Bayshore was doing a run down on the K-Rock site. He got something like $100 per week from CBS (or so they said on air). That is just the business. The less important the job, the less the person is making.

Its simple really Dr. Steve doesn't pull in subscribers and that's all SiriusXM cares about. He's completely replaceable and outside of the O&A community he doesn't really have a following. Hell I'm a huge O&A fan, and I've hardly listened to his show myself.

He's popular beyond the O&A community, and the R&F community as well. His podcast is consistently on the lists of top podcasts across many platforms. Shit, he's been at this for almost 7 years now.

How insulting

In all fairness he IS a full time physician, so his day job is pretty well paid. If anything, the show is more of a fun hobby for him and I doubt he expects any income from it.

On a side note, I'm all-in with Dr. Steve 100% and think he should be getting paid massive bucks for his awesome show.

Shame Sirius... You have a lot of money for your celebrity run channels where the celebrity does nada... Disgusting.

Haven't I heard the boys bitching about how most of the Howare money goes towards him and not his staff? Why can't the boys chip in? What's $200 a week to those millionaires?

Yeah, it's been mentioned several times in the last few weeks that Dr Steve doesn't get much from doing his Sirius XM shows. It's the same reason Bill Burr can't air his podcast on the channel. He needs to get paid

There may be issues with medical liability here. I don't have a J.D., but in the ever litigious United States, where trial lawyers (and dumb juries) rule the medical landscape Sirius/XM could potentially be held liable. And no offense to Dr. Steve, he is probably exposing himself to lawsuits, as well.

For example, Dr. Steve could say, "It seems like dermatitis, but see a doctor." An amputation later, a plaintiff could sue the company and Dr. Steve. It sounds extreme, but ask your doctor how much they pay a month for malpractice insurance.

If you're really worried about a condition, don't call a fucking radio show. Go see an urgent care doctor for $100 or go to the ER and claim that you're indigent.

His show has a pretty prominent disclaimer that I believe covers their asses.

My company can afford to pay this guys expenses to travel between his home in Texas and our job on Long Island but they can't pony up $400 to held subsidize our national employee week.

What should they pay him with? This entire sub torrents the show. That, and I don't think Weird Medicine commands a huge audience. This is a favor to O&A. Not the other way around.

I love how people buy into Opie's perpetual whining. Dr. Steve doesn't do it for the money. He does it to get his name out there, to sell more books or whatever he's selling.

Or he does it because he legitimately enjoys helping people?

No way, he's dedicated his entire life to medicine and works in hospice because he's interested in selling his wares, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

His foray into the wine business was kind of a bust, so I guess he had to fall back on the whole doctor thing.

Steve seems like a tremendous guy from everything I've heard of him.

Toilet wine
