I can tell you from first hand experience (because I work for a company that does online chat AND phone customer service for like 300-400 different webstores, and have done chat myself), there's a real person behind that chat. We are given and are able to make template responses though. Something you probably don't understand is that chat guy is probably chatting with 2 or 3 other people simultaneously while he's got a supervisor looking over his shoulder at how long each chat is taking.
When he starts mentioning wanting to cancel, the customer service guy seems to give actual specific responses (one with a typo too). It's probably someone sitting at a computer clicking preset responses depending on what the issue is. And then when it goes out of a typical conversation, they can type in a (crappy) response.
There is nothing more satisfying than being Chip on customer service calls. I still love Jimmy's phrase "Just chippin'." He also offered to deal with Ant's shitty pool-service company last year, I think he asked him if he wanted him to "Chip them." It all stemmed from him trying to get taken off a calling list... he started as James and by mid-conversation he had gone full blown Chip.
didn't read it, but they are the worst. Welcome to the club, I haven't given that shit company money in at least 2 years. They kept fucking up my billing, and they are just not worth the hassle. XM was awesome, I never had a single issue with them, then once Mel took over it was all downhill. I was a steady subscriber from day one with the b-b-boys, gladly paid the extra $1. Between the billing and them actively standing in the way of O&A doing anything remotely interesting...FUCK 'EM.
It works out better that way because they'll put you through to retentions who are authorized to give you what you want as cheaply as possible.
I've been paying $45 for 5 months of 1 radio and internet/app access for the last two and a half years. Every time the promo ends, they ding my credit card for some long extension at $13/mo for the radio and $4/mo for the streaming, so I call, tell them I want to cancel, and they put me through to retentions where I tell them I want the previous promo I had. 5 months for $25 and streaming access ($20). They refund the difference and I'm good for another 5 months.
By combining the only two satellite companies out there, they've left it so that they will do nearly anything to prevent someone from leaving.
Oh, I know, I milked the "we'll offer you 6 months for 25 dollars" so many times that they just let me cancel last time. No questions asked, no offers made.
I just hate the calling in and dealing with people who are nearly impossible to understand.
SiriusXM is so hopelessly inept with customer service technology. I had to deal with their Indian call center when my debit card expired and was reissued and with that robot chat when I forgot my log-in stuff. It's retarded that they haven't figured out how to use email for common complaints in 2014, and that their pricing structure just seems to be "whatever you can get."
Same debit card issue. Called and gave the new number, was ok for a month, and then got the same notice again the next month after I had already fixed it. I just let them cancel it. I can't decide which call center is worse- Sirius or Time Warner.
That's one of the most annoying things - you can add services on chat or on the web page but they want to make it extra-hard to cancel so that's got its own number. Which, BTW, always has a longer wait time than the regular customer service number.
The Sirius XM app is pure shit. I constantly have problems with it and they don't do shit when you complain. I hope O&A move to another platform in October. The fact that this is a public company with growing stock is beyond mind-boggling.
They lady charged me like $30 for 6 months and $4 for the online and app and they charged me the full $34 with no app or online. Thats why I was pissed off

There was no human behind that chat. That's why those online chat boxes are everywhere, it's software cueing off keywords.
The only way you'll resolve this is to call in and get a live human being on the phone, and it's still 50/50 they'll keep fucking it up.

Thanks, now all of my customer service calls are gonna be as Chip. It's not like they can hang up on you for being stupid.
