Opie's "end of our run in radio" comments.

I've only been listening for about a year and they make me so sad.
I really hope the end isn't as near as he lets on!

He's been saying this for years. Ignore it. They like the money too much.

Yeah, but I think this time it's different. On Rogan he really regretted not making the jump to online media last contract. He seemed pretty determined to make that move somehow, but you can never know.

Before the CBS\Free FM thing there was no hint that was happening until the deal was done. They're good at keeping secrets.

That's kind of what I thought, but I had to be sure. haha

he's obsessed with his own fame and fortune, he'll never leave.

I started listening 8 years ago, I've never known an Opie & Anthony show that hasn't featured Opie threatening to not resign.

He is doing the stern gimmick of always threatening retirement. Wont happen. And if it does ant will still be heard somewhere.

Opie does leave it'll be only him that leaves. Ant and Jim will continue with Sam probably taking Opie's role.

Sirius will not sign a show with just Anthony and Jimmy, it's just not going to happen. Opie is the way they control the show, Anthony ignores management and they don't want Jimmy in the office every day whining and badgering them.

Sirius will drop the show in a heartbeat, and replace it with a channel for some entertainment website.

If they get rid of opie they can take Opie's money, divide it between Ant, Jim and Sam and continue the show.

I actually like Opie so I don't want it to happen but you can see when Opie is out Sam takes his role. Guiding the show, asking questions to keep Jim and Ant on a roll ect.

Or maybe the get rid of Fez, Opie walks away and Ronnie B takes over for the Opster

Don't assume Sirius would be interested at all in a show without Opie. He's half the name. Taking Opie out means rebranding the show, and starting out from scratch. "Opie and Anthony" has decades of exposure and advertising propping it up, "Anthont and Jimmy" is just two guys most people have never heard of.

It has nothing to do with liking them or not - I'm a huge fan, but the reality is they are a team, and nobody has any idea of what Sirius would do if Opie bailed, but considering how they treat the show, especially with Stern down the hall lurking like an evil Jewish vulture, my bet is Sirius would be done with the show for good if Opie left.

Never assume any of them have any choices in moving around shows. Ron has his own contract that has to be fulfilled, and if Sirius wants him on the Ron And Fez show, that's where he stays.

All good and fair points. Guess I'm just hoping for "the best"

As do I, I would love to see them find a new spot and do what they want, but they're both 50 now, they're not the new guys on the block, hot and rising, they're looking at retirement in 14 years (if they last that long), and they don't exactly have the best reputation in the entertainment industry.

My gut feeling is the suits at Sirius would be happy to hear they rejected their next contract. That sucks, but it's pretty clear they're being put up with at best.

I certainly entertain the prospect of dumping Opie and replacing him with Ronnie B. I have reservations if that would work more than occasionally with 3 murderers in the room permanently. Unless they really work on their dynamic, they would always be stepping on each other's lines trying to get in there first. They would definitely be killer shows though.

You're absolutely right. Ant said that he'll continue his career until the end and even "make car agency opening appearances" if necessary. He was only half joking and that was a few years ago. In addition to the money, it would seem working makes him happy which is great for us listeners.

Do you listen to the same show we do? Ant is one thing: lazy. He does no prep, he's constantly complaining about having to be there, and he only has energy when there's a hot girl in the studio, or he's ranting about the government. He built a $100k+ studio at home that he never uses.

Ant can retire with the money he has, and play around doing Compound shows for fun once in a while.

It will happen more and more the closer they get to contract negotiation.

Come October they'll still threaten and all that and sign a new contract and then it begins again. I've only been a listener 3 years and this shit comes up all the time.

I listened to some shows from back in 2010 and they were saying the same crap, they aren't going anywhere. Jimmy is a sex addict, Ant is an alcoholic, and the Opster has a wife, all of them need the $$$$

I think it all depends on what they offer them in the next contract, and this will be the first contract with the new ownership. They can phone it in for another two years at their current money, but if it's substantially less, it may be the kick in the ass they need to bail and do something else.

Wether that's on air is another matter. As popular as we like to think they are, most people don't know who they are outside of New York.

Opie will probably end up consulting or working at his brother's restaurant, Ant will sit by the pool and polish his guns, and Jimmy will go back to the constant touring gig with occasional parts in movies and tv shows.

they have been doing everything they have been told by the management for the last few years in order not to get fired and keep their jobs. They would take a pay cut to stay!
