my impression of the howard stern feud from last frideee with ronnie b

when they say howard didn't take them head on but instead went behind the scenes and made it personal.. i disagree ... it seems more that stern dismissed them out of a lack of respect and was probably annoyed that (true or not) they were copycats .. he admitted to the gag order and his reasoning made sense .. he thought if they weren't allowed to talk about him they would implode because their whole shtick was "we are the new and improved howard stern show!!!!" .. i never gathered Stern did anything "personal" unless there is something missing .. and you can listen to the stern/dice interview howard NEVER makes fun of opie's father being dead im sorry .. its all too bad they could have been a cool duo of shows if they were all friends .. and another thing.. the only people who really seem to hate stern are bob levy and pat cooper .. if you listen to the audio on youtube howard was getting irritated with levy making way to many plugs (which i agree gets annoying) .. levy ranted and shit on stern and gary, howard gave him a pass (and i don't know what happened after to lead to his banning. anyone? ) .. and then pat cooper you just have to assume there was a falling out so you can't take his opinions seriously ...

in the end howard won (not saying his show is better than O and A) but looking at pictures of that birthday party you see pictures of katie couric in attendance?! if it were O and A you would probably get jill nicolini ...

having said all that they had a shot.... doing terrestrial and XM 2007 ish... were they dropped because of the financial collapse (which led to rock stations changing formats) or would they have not achieved what stern did regardless?

The guys really like being victims. Whether it's Stern, management, or being PC, it's the same "they're not letting us be as good as we want; so if the show sucks, it's someone else's fault"

I would agree... except Stern, in virtually every other instance, would go at people head-on and destroy them. Going behind the scenes and placing a gag order was really out of the norm for how he would handle things.

At the height of their mainstream visibility, O&A were huge - they were syndicated all over the East Coast (in every major market), and were killing there (had markets where they were #1 overall, were #1 in males 18-49 in I believe every market - may not have been the case in DC). They were clearly on Stern's radar.

stern's radio feuds were with people he was competing against for ratings, not people who worked for the same company in a different time slot. people didn't have to choose between listening to stern or listening to o&a, so him talking about them on his show would just be giving them the biggest plug of their career, which is what they were going for.

yeah I always felt Stern just didnt pay them any mind for the most part. He was the best back then and he viewed them as some ass queers.

Stern acknowledging their show and attacking them on the air would have been giving them exactly what they wanted.

Before he was desperate to get a viral video Opie's big goal was to get his hero Howard to acknowledge his existence. He's obviously still incredibly bitter about it to this day.

I don't think Howard Stern was ever a hero to Opie. Considering Opie's radio hero is Brother Wease in Rochester, and he worked for Wease before Stern went really big. And, while I dislike Wease a lot (living in Rochester) he did keep his #1 spot for over a decade in direct competition with Stern.

Why is Katie Couric at Howard Stern's party? Because Howard Stern has turned his show into a cross between Perez Hilton, Glee, and The View. It's a show for women.

i used the example just as a measure of howards success compared to theirs... but i am in NO way implying howard has the better show ... stern isn't laugh out loud funny like O&A is

Howard made a career out of going after other DJs and called them pussies for not fighting back. He it a HUGE hypocrite and ENORMOUS douchebag
