How many of the fans here also listen to Ron and Fez?

I'm new to Ron and Fez. Started listening after cake horn to be honest. I really dig the show and wish I got into it much earlier. I listen to O&A through youtube since I don't have Sirius/XM, so Ron and Fez has always eluded me.
The vibe is really good even with dramatic Fez. Maybe his drama makes it better, I don't know. I feel like Shelby is the Sam of the show and Pepper Hicks is a combination of Travis and Troy. Definitely my favorite show now next to O&A.
I'm sure you've all heard this. But for those who haven't given Ron and Fez a chance yet (Cakehorn show):

I started on O&A with a little R&F and about 2 or 3 years ago I started to get more into R&F and now I only listen to O&A bits maybe a couple of times a week when the topics or guests look interesting.
The OA&J dynamic is great when it's working, but I'd rather listen to the abusive, moody wisdom of Ron than the fixed, self-righteous stupidity of Jimmy and Anthony. And when they're doing just the mainstream news stories and willfully-ignorant music breaks every day it really seems like they've given up on developing the direction of the show, they've entered coax(edit:coast)-mode. They complain more about what they can't get away with than they try to get away with things. While, R&F might have some shitty shows, but there's always the feeling of braving out the uncertainty and they go to some really weird and memorable places multiple times a week.
Bottom line though, I laugh more at Ron and Fez, whether at the awkward set-up moments, Ron spontaneously busting out genius, Hicks saying something completely absurd, or Shelby sniping in. They also bring in new comedian guests most days of the week since Raw Dog, while O&A only take the A&B list celebrity comedians. Ron and Fez is hip with the new comedy.

this has been how I've felt recently. O&A is stagnating and I can't ignore it anymore

I liked the direction that the channel was going in, with content from friends of the OandA show, and I think that helped keep O and A fresh for me in a way (though I can't really explain why). Really bummed that they pulled a lot of that content. But, I have been listening to them on and off since WNEW in 1998, so maybe they're getting stale because anyone or anything does after that length of time.

This discussion always reminds me of what Patrice said on his Unmasked. I don't know the exact quote, but he said something like "O&A are slowing down. They're generals now, they don't want to fight anymore". I think the main reason why the R&F show keeps fighting to make things entertaining throughout these years is because Ronnie enjoys fucked up shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgRvYhNitM8 Every show sounds like Ronnie is trying to get his entertainment fix, because if things get stagnant he'll use again.
1 thrillated 2014-03-29
He said they were generals now because they had been soldiers for such a long time.
1 numba13 2014-03-29
Yes, and generals don't fight. Soldiers do.

What the fuck is coax-mode?
2 Gardenfarm 2014-03-29
It's when you stop pedaling on a bike and you let your accumulated momentum run you as far as you can till you stop.
5 Ojisan1 2014-03-29
I think you mean coasting.
2 HodorIsMyNigga 2014-03-29
coax
verb
persuade (someone) gradually or by flattery to do something. "the trainees were coaxed into doing hard, boring work"
synonyms: persuade, wheedle, cajole, get around;
use flattery or gradual persuasion to obtain something from. "we coaxed money out of my father"
manipulate (something) carefully into a particular shape or position. "her lovely hair had been coaxed into ringlets"
Origin
late 16th cent.: from obsolete cokes ‘simpleton,’ of unknown origin. The original sense was ‘pet, fondle,’ hence ‘persuade by caresses or flattery,’ the underlying sense being ‘make a simpleton of

I think I either used a midwestern perversion of coast, as in expending accumulated momentum, and assumed it was universal, or I was just a dumbass and confused coast(the verb) with coax.
4 HodorIsMyNigga 2014-03-29
I think you may have just "cakehorned" it

Ron Bennington is one of the greatest broadcasters of all time.

Everyone who wonders why Jimmy is quieter when Ron's in, here it is. Ron is alpha dog wherever there's a mic.

I watch random clips online every once in a while. I like it, but Opie and Anthony is more than enough radio for me. I couldn't imagine 8 hours a day dedicated to listening to radio.

Check out some old shows with ESD or Black Earl.
4 defpoof 2014-03-29
Dave vs Earl fights were great, also the hypnotism shows and Ron's live reads.
1 PhilipeNegro 2014-03-29
Miss the old XM-era live reads.

If you think the vibe is good, you'd be amazed to listen to older shows.
Fez, has pretty much ruined the show for the past 2-3 years. It has become pretty much almost unbearable. But there is nothing better than Ronny B. when he's on the radio. Seriously. He's quick like Ant, funny like Jimmy, and can run a show like Opie.
Pepper is solid. Dave and Earl added a lot to the show so when Fez was being craptastic, you still had the three of them to be with Ron to make a great show. Now, it's Ron and Pepper. the other two douchebags that they have on the show are even worse than having Sam on the show.
The callers on R&F are so much better - but I think it's because they give them a chance. Ronny typically doesn't say shit to them besides "Ya" so they best be quick...but it's better than talking over them and shitting on everything that they say (Like O&A usually do).
Ron & Fez is such a weird show now. I miss the old days. But the cakehorn show was pretty fucking funny.
-1 ToothGnasher 2014-03-29
You better not be talking about supple little Shelby. Kid is gold.
4 mr_administrator 2014-03-29
Sorry, just can't listen long enough for him to grow on me.
8 booderdooders 2014-03-29
Been listening to clips from R&F in the background for the past month or so. Seriously thinking of jumping ship to them. O&A sometimes fucks with my blood pressure. I have spidey senses at this point about when Jimmy is about to go on a "sssscumbags" or "____ should all be executed" rant. The first half of the show I'm on high alert, ready to skip forward if the show goes there.
With Ron and Fez, I'm guessing you don't have moments like that. No matter the topic, or whatever Ron's feelings are on it, he'll make it funny, not negative.

A couple years ago they rebroadcast all of the AFRO shows during a holiday break. I recorded them, and will have to see if i still have them somewhere. It was classic.
1 whiteguyernie 2014-03-29
If you find them and decide to upload them somewhere, let me know

He actually recorded them on a cassette recorder he had hidden under his jacket, you probably don't want his copy.

Big Ass Cardholder #6749 here (hoo-ah).
i listened every day since the "3 hour tour" days on wnew. When they went to DC i even downloaded the show on my 56k dial-up line.
Stopped listening a few years ago. I just couldn't deal with how pathetic Fez had become, and I wasn't interested in the "Ron interviews a bunch of people I really don't care about" show.
I heard the show when Fez came out and a few after that, thinking maybe coming out would make him happier. nope.
3 lunchboxg4 2014-03-29
Oh hey, budday.
It's really a shame about Fez. I don't know what happened to him, but he used to be so great to listen to. I genuinely believe he's ill, and I wish he'd get some actual help to be happier.
3 devo37 2014-03-29
very sad for fez. the fezatorials were one of the things that made me start listening.
as much as he loves him, i think fez needs to get away from ron to get better. ron has moved in such a different direction that fez has no context for. wtf is fez gonna ask patty smith or any of the guests that ron brings in??
1 lunchboxg4 2014-03-29
Sadly, I agree with you. He's become completely dependent on Ronnie, and won't heal until he's forced to. We only see their relationship for a few hours a week, but I think it's much deeper and much more dependent than we realize. I even expect Fez didn't go to see Ron in the hospital because he couldn't handle the possibility that Ron would die.
1 rahtin 2014-03-29
Or it goes the complete opposite direction, lile the Joey Pants interview.
2 Gardenfarm 2014-03-29
By the way, since the Raw Dog move at the beginning of this year Fez isn't 'better,' but Ron officially put the brakes on the 'advice show' segments, he has no patience any more for trying to seriously entertain Fez's problems. They only ever come up any more as conversation-starter topics with guests, or in order to directly make fun of Fez. HUGE improvement to the show.
1 [deleted] 2014-03-29
They played the homeless shopping spree on the O&A podcast when Fez was there, being mistaken for a homeless guy, and he was fucking hilarious. It's so sad what happened to him.
5 JohKhur 2014-03-29
I listen to them daily on that there steven knights
4 keemers 2014-03-29
I listen to both shows daily. I listen by alternate means so I have no commercials. I get through all both shows each week without falling more than a day or two behind. That being said, I don't really watch much TV so it's not hard to do. I adore R&F, dead air and all. #clipfights
3 [deleted] 2014-03-29
Only when it's a 'Worst Of' day...
They should do a podcast like O&A with some old material as well!

Ron & Fez is definitely worth hearing.
Awesome bit: Fez trying to make his cat say "cookie".
3 Ebhagz 2014-03-29
Ron and Fez still entertains me every week. I watch Opie and Anthony hoping to be entertained but not getting my hopes up. \
3 Ebhagz 2014-03-29
I hate hearing people defend Opie saying he "Steers" the show. Opie is nowhere near as great a radio guy as Ron Bennington and anyone who listens to R&F would know that
3 Frogslayer 2014-03-29
I listen to R&F show religiously. Unfortunately after the move to RawDog, the show has too much tuna.
2 present_day_memories 2014-03-29
I've tried but it feels like every clip is the same. The un-screened phone calls bit was brilliant though.
2 Chamomileable 2014-03-29
I listen to them a lot of the time when I get up too late for O&A. Since I'm home basically all the time and my productivity is computer-oriented, R&F are on pretty often. I'm an O&A fan first and foremost, though.
2 IggysGlove 2014-03-29
I never miss a minute of either show. Sometimes I get way behind though. Im listening to february still.
2 Topher_Wayne 2014-03-29
Listen to Ron Bennington's interviews They are the best.
2 Slippery_Slope_Guy 2014-03-29
Between O&A and podcasts I just don't have time. I'll check out clips occasionally though.

I used to only listen to clips having to do with O&A, but now I listen to Ron and Fez more than I do O&A.
2 Ebhagz 2014-03-29
I love Ron and Fez so much. Honestly they are always entertaining and funny no matter what
2 Ebhagz 2014-03-29
Ron always runs a tight show and there's never really a day when you feel like he phones it in. Even when Fezzy is being dumb they make it into a great bit. Opie and Anthony is funnier but they do tend to have more "Lazy" days than R&F

I've pretty much dropped OnA for RnF. I'll listen for the gimmick episodes (i.e. Lady Di intern week), but unless it's something great I skip it. I think that old school RnF fans for the most part have dropped off because of Fez whereas the new RnF fans are all in because they've grown to like the show with fucked up Fez. I only started listening to them like in the last 18 months or so and I much prefer the RnF show now to the old ones I've listened to. It's all about the show you started with I guess.
1 freshmozz 2014-03-29
Ron and Fez definitely compliment O&A well. Lately they've even shared a few guests. I tune in and out depending on what they're up to.
1 dazwah 2014-03-29
I did until they moved.
1 rohs310 2014-03-29
I have listened to a few shows recently for the first time and while it is a good show i just don't have the hours in the day to listen regularly when i can barely keep up with o and a and the few podcasts ive managed to ration down.
I listened to Ron interview Jeff Garlin the other week and couldn't stop laughing at the unintentionally funny gaspathon. Whenever one started to talk they did that fat guy gasp before saying a sentence coupled with them both talking fast it almost seemed like a bit although im 99% sure it was legit.
1 CMacLaren 2014-03-29
Depending on my commute/extra time. I usually listen to 1-2 episodes of Ron and Fez a week, but I listen to every episode of O&A.
1 clarenceecho 2014-03-29
I just watched a Ron and Fez video called "Let the Puppies Breath" WHAT THE FUCK
1 JensaaraiBronitarian 2014-03-29
I do. I find Shelby to be slowly morphing into a old fez, or pre-crazy fez if you will. Still, the pauses and dead air fuck with my head a lot since I listen on youtube as well and I always have to check to make sure the video's not buffering.
1 carrara9000 2014-03-29
ill listen sometimes. I def enjoy it, but o&a already keeps me extremely occupied. If I have a slow week and run out of o/a, R&F are my next goto
1 Dcoutofstep 2014-03-29
His name was Bitz
1 CivilianConsumer 2014-03-29
Not to compare the two but I really enjoy listening to Ron, he's a class act.
1 Gator1010 2014-03-29
I listen to both. Took a few times to go all in with R&F. Love the show now.
1 [deleted] 2014-03-29
I started listening to R&F when they came to XM, and loved the show - Black Earl, East Side Dave, British Paul, Lily, all that. I learned pretty quickly Ron is a fucking genius. His wit is DEEP. Ron Bennington firing on all cylinders is a force of comedy nature.
1 [deleted] 2014-03-29
Shit, I remember when they first came to WNEW and I could never get past that flamboyantly gay Fez voice. When they came on, it was time to turn the radio off. So, never really got into them, though I did like Ron's insights and interviews.
