If Jim Norton were to leave the show, would you stop listening completely?

Anthony is very funny as well, but he has his limits; and he plays off of Jim's humor, which makes both of them that much more brilliant. Opie's none of the above, he's just there. The rest of the crew are complete duds and contribute nothing special.
I feel Jim is the main reason I listen to the show, with his brilliant takes on things, his side-splitting rants, characters, banter with Anthony, his cheekiness. If he wasn't on the show anymore, we would just be stuck with Anthony's pure hatred of things, Opie's talk mainly of himself, and well…Sam. Then again, I wouldn't listen to just Jim either.

Some of the best shows recently from a pure comedy talk radio stand point were the recent Opie and Anthony only shows. No comedians, no third mic, just two really good friends (ok not as much as they used to be but even they admitted recently things are good) bullshitting about random topics past and present like it was the good ole days.
No youtube videos, no angry repetitive third mic, no disruptive split personality characters or show retards, no comedian trying to do his act on air... just guys that have been through a lot talking.

I like these shows too but I think that part of what makes them good is that they are a deviation from the norm. I bet if Jim was only in one show every 2 weeks or so that people would be more excited for the Jim shows.

O&A have a great chemistry when Jim's not there.

Today was a perfect example of that.. Op and Ant were more focused than they've been all week, especially given the walking disaster that's been in studio.

At this point unfortunately, if Jim were to leave the show, all the 3rd mics who would have replaced him years ago have moved on to bigger and better things, moved cities, or died.
Patrice (dead)
Louie (massive success, very busy)
Bill Burr (Moved to LA, TV, Movies, successful podcast)
Bob Kelly (podcast network, family man)
Vos (podcast, family, dummy)
Colin Quinn (Doesn't give a care)
Jim Jefferies (Huge TV Show, lives in LA)
Joe Rogan (MMA, Huge Podcast, LA)
Keith Robinson (too lazy to wake up)
Amy Schumer (TV Show, LA, would get old fast)
So you are pretty much left with Sam, DiPaolo, Dan Soder, Jay Mohr, Ari Shaffir, DeRosa, Tom Pappa, Otto, Stanhope, Flourentine, and Bob fucking Levy ...
And we can all think of reasons why they shouldn't be 3rd mic.

Dan Soder should not be included in the "shouldn't be 3rd mic" list. He's always been awesome on the show, even on R&F he's been great.

He does stand far above the others on that list. I like him more everytime he sits in.

I totally agree. Having a pool of 3rd miss to draw from would add freshness every week. I always liked when they would swap out when Jimmy was out.
Now you just have to convince management.

It would just be Opie taking forever to set up replays of bits from previous shows to get the rotating third mics 'on board.'

Flourentine, Soder, Stanhope, Quinn and Shaffir could alternate as 3rd mic if Jimmy left. They each get one day a week.

I would probably listen more because the only time I turn it off now is when Jimmy goes on one of his self-righteous rants.

I like Jim, but he is replaceable in my opinion. Anthony is one that can't be replaced, I'd say.
Anthony could be coupled with many a different host(s) and the funny would still be delivered.
Jim or Opie for that matter, not so much... Anthony is the straw that stirs the O&A drink when you break it all down, in my opinion.

He keeps it light.

That's the problem.

Jimmy is the only person on the show who consistently makes me laugh out loud. Without him on the show I'd only listen when they had Colin, Louie, or Penn in.

Jim's crutches and weird hypocritical shit lately are wearing thin for a lot of people. If he went off to film something for a month or so, I wouldn't miss him.

eh, i'd probably still listen. as a teenager i listened to don & mike so i have a built-up tolerance for horrible talk radio, and there's no way it would ever get as bad as that.

Meh, it would be a huge blow to the show and my interest. Like you said, Ant and Jim play off each other so well (being they are actually friends and all) that I'd really miss the interactions and Ant would really be out in left field. My guess is Sam would grab third mic and it would turn into the Opie & Sam show, as i said about actually being friends we know Sam and Op are close. I don't think Anthony would fare as well, Opie would just talk about his kids and complain about his "haters" and Sam is stupid enough (and by stupid i mean he is smart enough to suck up to the boss) to entertain the Opster's nonsense. So back to the question, yeah i'd def pull back on my listening habits with no Yimmy.

I would still listen but Jim would be missed..so would Chip

I'm in until the bitter end.

Everyday I read this subreddit a little first before listening to the " replay". Today, for example, you guys are telling me jimmy is in VA. I'm still going to listen though. Didn't you? And I would continue to listen.

I think we'd all go a day to two, just to keep up with the goings on of the show. If Jim was gone all week, for instance, I'd probably not listen for that week. Then again, they would probably bring a special guest to fill in each day, since I think they know it would be much more difficult with just the two of them, so in this example I'd still listen. :/

I personally love getting Jimmy's take on topics and think he has made the show exponetially better but I would still listen. If Ant left though and it was just Jimmy and Opie, not so sure...
0 GoFudgeUrself 2014-03-21
id listen a lot less honestly, i still hang around to hear jammy slam douchebags and out-argue people
-1 rosyyoshi 2014-03-21
No, Jim is my favorite, too, but Anthony and Opie can do very entertaining shows without him. I'd still enjoy it, just would come to miss him very quickly.
EDIT: ps, everyone around o and a are radio duds, even a solo Jimmy. That's Opie's brilliance, he gets everything moving and working together so that a bunch of ok participants make for great radio.. and imho, Sam's ok, especially with Erick or whoo kid
