O&A circa 1999 is awesome

There is a channel on youtube uploading all their WNEW and WAAF shows right now. I just started listening to their old stuff (From WNEW) and it's a lot less goofy than I thought it would be. It's more "fun" than their current show, no Jimmy though. Good to drink a couple beers to and play in the background. Just try to ignore the horn and occasional "duuude" cringe. The WAAF shows are just a massive Jocktober wreck though. Love it.
Enjoy

Edit: Oh lord this one is from '95 at WAAF. PREPARE FOR THE CRINGE:

I remember a little after 9/11 when Anthony started doing the Tom Brokaw bits, holy crap that was hilarious. I need to find those clips.

Maybe it's because I started listening in 2004 in the XM days, but I can't listen to pre-XM O&A. Even the "classic" bits, there's just something really off about the show and I can't listen to it. It just sounds forced or phony or something.

It still has bits and pieces of what they make fun of now. It's a tiny bit douchey from time to time.

Its kind of funny because they will reference some things that they regularly mention now. Seinfeld mentions, Luke Abrotsy from the Godfather, etc

Luke Abrotsy?
wow

I actually had to re-read that twice and google it just to make sure i wasn't going blind. That sounds like a fucking Colin Quinn nickname for someone. Like Ken Fresno and Luke Abrotsy.

I'm not too in to Opie & Anthony pre XM. I hate all that shock jock shit. The "ZOMG THIS GUY IS SO FUCKED UP HEH HES SAYING WEIRD THINGS" shit is so awful. Then the other "SHOCKING things like the Wiffle Bat Challenge, Lesbian Coach, etc. Just so bad.
I love Opie & Anthony from 2004-2007/8. Lots of great comics. Both funny conversations and in depth serious conversations. It's also prior to the days where Anthony screams about blacks for 30 minutes a show.

its great, i like listening for things they would shit on themselves for now, and its just cool to see their chemistry in the beginning.

The afternoon show was the pinnacle of O&A history. Ant getting drunk almost every show, there were always lots of girls and comics in the studio (strippers and comedians are not known for waking up at 6am), the listener interactions, the wiffle ball bat challenges, the 55 gallon drum challenges, Ramone - good times.
2 h3yf3ll4 2014-03-19
Ramone! Correct my failing memory!
2 Mottaman 2014-03-19
Ramone was the first bit on XM, nothing to do with WNEW
1 Ojisan1 2014-03-19
You sure? I must be mistaken then. I thought Ramone was older than that but right on.
2 Mottaman 2014-03-19
ramone was derived from the promo's for the new show. The boys spent the first couple of episodes really bashing it before Jimmy started using it for calls

I was in elementary school back in these days and I remember not being allowed to listen to them because they were the "naughty" show (now I sit in my cubicle listening everyday, and it's the only thing that keeps me from going on a shooting spree). It's always weird to hear the old WNEW clips cause it brings me right back to the one or two times I did hear a little bit of them on the radio back then.

The WNEW link you posted isn't even when they had gotten good at WNEW. That's when they were less than a year into it. Their WNEW show gets even better later on.
If I had to pick a show to listen to for a 30 minute commute, WNEW would definitely be my choice.

I loved the boys when they were on WAAF and I was a pretty big fan. But I was also 14 so I liked a lot of things that weren't actually good.

it's completely fucking horrible actually but that is a cool channel to have around
