Less comedians
0 2014-03-16 by SHerzog
Am I just imagining things? It seems like since the Tim Sabien takeover they just have less stand ups on. Ron and Fez on raw dog seem to have them all now. I know it could just be that most of the great comics they have had in the last few years are in LA now. I'd rather have NY comics then some of the d-list celebs.

Most comedians promote themselves on podcasts nowadays and also since they work nights it's sometimes harder to get on a morning show

They're a media destination now.

so fucking gay, the show with patton was amazing radio, enough of comics coming in for two seconds.

They have had less comedians on, but that happened before Tim Sabien. The previous "babysitters" thought that their reliance on comedian guests was too high and asked them to cut it down. I remember them mentioning this well before Sabien took over.
Plus a lot of their previous regulars are just busier these days and don't have a lot of time to spend hours on a radio show in the morning.

I kinda remember reading something about Sirius wanting money from the clubs of all the comedians, which seems crazy. Whatever show Ted Lange was promoting didn't pay for his appearance.

That was because they used to play spots for comedians before or after commercials. Even if the comedian wasn't there that day, they'd play audio of guys like Bob Kelly or Rich Vos plugging a gig. Sirius wanted them to pay for commercial time for that.

they've had rogan and gervais together, joey diaz for the first time in ages, billy FUCKING connolly, that pat cooper interview. then there was a retard asking questions to neil degrasse tyson.
shits pretty sweet imo

Yeah, mornings, podcasts, media destination. All kind of what I figured. I've only been a listener since 2006 but I can't say I enjoy these changes. Guess it makes the multi comedian episodes that do happen that much more special.

Jimmy said it best, "stuck in the mud". Our beloved o and a are on an all but dead format. The "buzz" about satellite radio died almost a decade ago. But what do I know, I'm just a guy that streams everything I want to hear whenever I want through my phone.

Yeah, maybe you are right. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment over the years and I still like the guys just doing stories alone, just seems to be a lull in guests I don't just skip or turn the channel lately.

most of their friends moved up and aren't promoting Funnybone clubs in Jersey anymore. they moved up to theaters, where shows are sold out months in advance. no reason to get up that early.
that's why we get stuck with Vos, Levy, and Ladi Di seemingly every day now. Colin is the only one who seems to participate out of genuine enjoyment.
Ari Shaffir is back in LA now and I don;t think they had him in once while he was living in NYC. they also had that black guy in kind of recently, who I thought had potential as a regular.

Spoiled by years of the regulars being Patrice, burr, and Louis. Now I'd be happy if it was some young lesser known comics from the NYC scene instead of bobo and ladydi.

Can't blame this on Tim. This started way before him. Most of these comedians either have their own podcast or are guests on every other comedians podcast. What's in it for them to wake up that early to go on radio when they can do a podcast and reach their fans directly.

In the past month burr, big jay, Bob Kelly, vos, Rogan, Joey Diaz, Adam Ferrera, pat Cooper, Patton Oswalt, Colin Quinn, Jim florentine have all been on the show. What in the fuck are you talking about? They have comedians all the time. Granted they don't have guys come in for an entire week like they used too but Jimmy has been in studio more and siriusxm before Tim said they couldn't have comedians fill in as much due to free promotion.

So you are saying I am imagining it. That's fair, reading your list I kinda remember these people in the last month. Joey Diaz was great last week, and I'd have like Adam Ferrara to have had more time or be in a different day as I don't remember him getting much burn that show.

Why bring in a comedian for the day when Jimmies out when you have the hilarious Sam for 3rd mic?
