When I listen to old episodes I notice how much happier Opie sounds.

Listening to the snooping kids podcast... and Opie sounds generally happy and seems to be having fun.

I still love the show and find Opie funny and generally great (except when he mentions something and then when another person elaborates on the topic says over them 'THAT'S WHERE I WAS GETTING AT!'), but goddamn does he sound miserable most days or is it just me?

I think it is partly to do with the negativity that Jim brings into the studio and opie's fear of saying something that Jim would think is "embaaaaaarassing". The most enjoyable shows over the last few weeks have been the Friday shows when Jimmy is on the road. Opie comes across much more relaxed when it's just him and Ant.

Other than him bitching about management, I think Opie is pretty happy now. I think his radio show is taking a backseat to his family. Theres just a huge loss of energy since they've backed themselves into a corner on what is hack and what isnt.

I notice the lack of energy from them as well :(

And his fake laughs

Opie has become what he always hated. Listening to his cognitive dissonance fight it out is great. He is the Fez of the O&A show.

It's what that one poster wrote: This is no longer shock jock radio.... nothing cringy.... they aren't having a lot of fun. Imagine getting together with 2 buds and watching videos just to goof on them... do that day after day.... the "fun" factor wears off. They could have done that bus tour, or so many other things. There is no longer an ability, or desire, to do anything "shocking".

If I were near the end of my run, I would go out with something big... big and shocking... but hilarious. It's better to burn out than fade away.... they are fading away it seems.

Enough with the near the end bullshit. Opie and Ant will be at sxm another 10 years if they let them. You think opie wants to retire with young kids? Ant is going to save up a retirement fund?

But will sxm want them is the question.

Yeah most likely. With Howard gone they will probably take over part of his audience and they dont cost a fraction of the amount.

He stopped caring once they were forced to broadcast in a closet to 50K listeners a day

Are those the actual numbers, Holy crap that's lame if it's true.

Because he's at the part of his Stern wanna be career that he wants to be mad at the world...

I mean look at his current boss Tim Sabean. He fucking LOVES eating Sterns leftovers...

He's got two kids now. He has more on his mind and probably gets less sleep. He's also older.

I disagree with you on this. The rage that used to come out in Opie isn't there anymore. He seems like he's much more satisfied in life than he did in the old days.

If by satisfied you mean defeated, then I agree.

He probably doesn't have as much fun on the show as Jimmy and Anthony, because his sense of humour is different and he's not as spontaneous with improvised reaction-based comedy. It would make sense for him to be a bit bored with the show by now or, at the worst, feel like he's not an integral part of all of the funniest stuff they do on the air.
