Big Jay Oakerson

Anyone know why this guy isn't on the show more often? I thought he did a decent job when he came in with Burr, and Attel the other day for the Patrice benefit. He seems to be friends with a lot of the comics that are friends of the show. I know he helped Joe DeRosa get his start. He's close with Dave Attel, Keith Robinson, and had a relationship with Patrice. He's also on Ron & Fez quite a bit and I was wondering if that had anything to do with it? ive heard jay oakerson on a few different podcasts and he kills. i think he'd do really well on o&a. are siriusxm limiting the amount of comics o&a can rotate in? or is it just because jimmy isn't on the road as much? i'd really like to hear more of him on the show and was wondering why we haven't?

I would bet its because of O&A being on so early in the morning

I read somewhere (maybe on here) that the reason was because he was/is Ron and Fez's go-to-guy. O&A didn't wanna have him on their show and then he'd go on Ron and Fez and (since there is an overlap of listeners between the 2 shows) eventually fans might get sick of him.

In particular, Ronnie B said on his show a week or two back that they didn't want to overload one another's "main" guests while they shared the same channel and the move to Raw Dog was the reason why the O&A regulars are beginning to appear on R&F now.

Well that does make sense. If O&A have a guest in studio who has some great stories to tell and then Ron and Fez have that same guy right after O&A and he's still got the same great stories to tell the second time he tells them it isn't gonna be that funny for the carry-over listeners.

Love Big Jay.
He was on Tom Papa's show recently. Here's how the convo went:
Tom: "So, big Jay, how'd you get your nickname?"
Jay: "..."
Shut it off right after.

I think Big Jay lives in Philly maybe it would be to early to get in on most days. Even Opie said he doesn't know why Big Jay isn't on more often. Btw he always kills on Ron and Fez

He does a weekly podcast with Luis J Gomez (Legion of Skanks) who is in NYC and does the local clubs. Is Philly close enough to make that viable?

Philly to NY is a couple hour drive so I guess someone was right earlier when they said he moved to NY. I think its a 3 hour drive

According to Big Jay he pays to live in Long Island and sleeps in NYC. Hes at the clubs 6 of 7 nights so yeah hes probably sleeping 6-10 am. Im getting this, i think, from his apperance on the artie lange show. Alot of people are saying he had the best set at the patrice benefit.
Jays been around for a while. He was on that show ZRock from years ago. Funny show with alot of standups. i deff remember appearances by lil Jimmy, Patrice, Geraldo.

This is correct, Big Jay is from Philly, but he doesn't live there.

I thought I heard him say on Ari Shaffirs podcast he had finally moved to new york but i might be wrong. if he lives in philly that explains why he does r&f and not o&a.

He has the coolest hurricane survivor story I've ever heard. He talks about it on Bobby's podcast. Episode: Sandy the C*nt

What's wrong with speculating or asking the question? He's one of the funniest comedians around and it seems odd that he wouldn't be on the show more especially since he does Ron & Fez all the time. If he lives in Philly then it makes perfect sense.

He might not want to, or it doesn't fit into his schedule. He might just be intimidated by the show for whatever reason. At least that's how I feel Keith Robinson is, whenever he's on O&A he rarely addresses them or even talks with them, it's always with another comic. Speculations aside, I think it doesn't have much to do with Serious XM's policy.

If I remember correctly, he wanted to come in for the first Patrice remembrance show, but they only let him call in, even though I'm pretty sure he was very close with Patrice. I've always wondered why they've never had him in. Opie picked Colin Kane instead.

I remember on this year's post Patrice Remembrance show, they mentioned how much they loved Big Jay, and when asked why he's not on that often, the b-b-b-boys genuinely didn't know.

Last time I was in NY I saw a midnight show at the comedy cellar and Jay was the host, he was easily the best part of the show. The other comics weren't bad at all, and Dave Attell even showed up unannounced and just riffed with him for about 40 mins. I don't know if he usually does those late shows, but that could be part of it. I could tell he'd be great on o&a from how he improvised from the crowd. Opie mentioned something about how they don't know why they haven't had him on more, and Jay said he'd be happy to come in whenever they call him, I'd definitely like to hear him on the show more.
Here he is in studio with Patrice for the up & down game, I think it starts around 1:45:00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix-eDlaqPBI

I go to the cellar pretty often (live nearby) and he is easily my favorite regular.

Number of reasons. He's in great standing with both R&F and O&A, but various issues arise from that. Because of listener overlap, having someone walk out of one show and right onto another can create a stale feeling to things. He's also based out of Philly, and that means that he usually has to pick one or the other if he's in town.

He's from Philly, he doesn't live there.

Big Jay might have been my favorite set at the Patrice benefit last week. Never saw his stand up before that, he killed it.

He is on Ron and Fez quite a bit, if you like that sort of malarchy.
