I avoid the defaults too, but they do absolutely represent reddit's community to a large degree. It's the first thing a new user sees on reddit. The same way a fledging feminist will inevitably bump into the tumblr, Jezebel and general SJW insanity. You're veering too far into no true Scotsman territory if you only define feminism by the things that you like about it. Occupy Wallstreet had some good core concepts to work from but the hordes of morons who rallied around it absolutely displayed how disorganised and ineffective the whole movement was and I think the same is true for modern feminism.

And that's where I think you're wrong. These people make up a significant portion, if not the majority, of the movement. I define a movement/ideology based on its members and their actions, not just on the goals or ideals of the movement.
Sure they make up a significant portion, but I think that's true of all ideologies. When have the smart, thoughtful atheists or Christians or liberals or conservatives ever outnumbered the dumb ones?
I don't find the mindless majority all that important or relevant for any ideology, it isn't just a bias towards feminism. I prefer to focus on the people who actually have good reasons for what they believe. Those are the people who positively contribute to a movement or ideology— the other people are just followers parroting concepts they barely understand because everyone else in their social circle does too. I think you can apply that to every single popular ideological movement in the world, including whichever ones you yourself subscribe to.
