Joe Rogan.

I'm curious what other fans of the show think of him. My friends and I cover the spectrum from like to indifference to hate.

I mean purely as a broadcaster, on OnA or the experience. I don't think anyone would doubt how awesome he is as a UFC commentator/hype man. I used to like him, but I've started to feel he is a little too wikipedia-ish. I started to get an itch during the Gervais interview where they'd start to riff and he'd jump in with another fact, then they'd start to riff again and he'd jump in with a copy paste fact about his chickens or mountain lions or the running speed of a buffalo or something.

I was just wondering if anyone else got this feeling or I'm just an asshole.

I personally like how he fact checks virtually everything, but I can understand how it could be annoying for the average O&A fan who is just looking to listen to the conversation and laugh. (I'm also a fan of Rogan's podcast, so I might just be used to it)

I think facts are pretty interesting. I don't mind learning a thing or two or hearing something that I might wanna look up later while I listen to the show.

Yeah, I can understand that, and I used to find it interesting as well, I think to me it felt like he was stepping on a potential riff a lot in the Gervais segment. But, of all the times he's been on that was the first that I was thinking 'C'mon Joe, just holster it for a minute and do some jokes'.

Yeah, joe's style tends to be more conversational than just rapid-fire jokes.

I guess that's why he does like a 9 hour podcast every week.

Its not really facts though. They're like "pop" facts. Every fact he quotes is something he read in an article, or saw in a documentary. Like about that Pope Benedict story. Everything was pretty much taken verbatim from the HBO documentary. It kind of annoys me that he isn't at least giving credit to the documentary if you're going to quote word for word.

Well if they are facts it isn't really anything you need to source. Facts are facts. Most people learn shit from stuff they read or things they saw in documentaries. That's kinda how ya learn. Most people aren't the first to discover things.

I know. But when you are basically talking about something you learned from one specific second-hand source its kind of douchey not to say something about that source. Say something like "I saw this documentary on tv... blah, blah, blah"

He does that a lot. For a supposed smart guy, you can pretty much pick up on his opinion and the facts that he quotes are almost always from a singular secondary source. You can almost say to yourself, "oh ya, I read that article too a while back." To me, its kind of disingenuous the way he presents what he read as him actually doing some real research, and having real opinions on it.

I dunno. It doesn't really strike me that way. If you listen to his podcast he prefaces 90% of what he says with "I saw a documentary about..." or "I read an article about..." The guy listens to history podcasts and watches a ton of documentaries and retains the information. What kind of opinion is there to be had on child molestation in the Catholic Church? I'd say the only opinion to have would be to be against it.

As far as the other stuff he talks about, drug legalization, war, conspiracies, etc, he has a variety of opinions that are in the minority and some that are in the majority. Seems like he does some thinking on his own. He's also in the unique position of talking to a lot of authors and philosophers directly. He's had Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Sam Harris, Dan Carlin, Graham Hancock, etc on his podcast so a lot of the information he gets, he gets directly from people smarter than he is and shares.

His stand up is shit, but I enjoy the podcasts and love when he visits O&A.

Art Bell for the youtube generation.

not even close, art bell made a niche in radio for himself and nobody could come close to his show in the 90s. rogan talks about super natural things but thats about it, art was literally broadcasting in the desert near area 51.

sorry for the rant but thats just crazy talk, art bell is the art bell for the youtube generation, and im sure that rogan would agree, and yes it is annoying when he spews facts, sure it can be interesting some time but just hang for once without trying to alpha nerd the whole room and prove how smart he is.

I love him on News Radio.

Small doses. Guy has a fucking hard-on for fringe experts so I rarely listen to his podcast.

hes super high, all the time. thats why he spouts off random facts. I get a second hand high listening to his podcast. I thought his interview with the bitcoin dude last week (?) was going to be a total bust but I was dying laughing at some of Joe's responses to the dudes explanations

"..... wait I'm really confused"

overall, I think he's pretty funny, love him as an announcer for UFC and can mainly tolerate his high speak. sometimes I have to turn him off bc he gets a little too high and off topic and just plain fucking out there.

Also, let us not forget the glorious show that is fear factor

I think the marijuana is definitely a factor

ADHD and pot. That's what you get. I enjoy it most of the time, until he starts with the anti-psych-med stuff.

I think he's a great comic and a great podcaster. I will say, I used to listen to every podcast of the Joe Rogan Experience and loved it. But now with all the philosophy talk and the very serious conversations with people who I've never heard of. I just tune out. I often think I'm listening to an NPR broadcast about how to garden.

You almost want to be able to call in and say "You're a fucking comedian, stop pontificating about the singularity and make a god damn joke." But then he will have great podcasts with comedians and I'm fucking in. Like most recently he had Neal Brennen on and it was fucking great. You gotta respect the guy. He's smart as fuck, a really funny comic, fantastic commentator and broadcaster.

No doubt he's a super multi-talented dude. I can't decide whether it's just me wanting him to not branch out and be serious and stay in his pocket because he's labelled a comedian, or whether I really don't find his points interesting when he talks about the serious stuff. A lot of the time I feel, with the serious/science/metaphysical stuff, he doesn't have his own opinions or thoughts, he seems to just be really well read, regurgitate facts and names.

I get you, he's not for everyone. I often wish he would lighten up and riff a bit more without always going to drop a fact. While interesting it's just like c'mon dude have a bit more fun. He's a guy who if interested in a subject will just devour every fact about it. Part of the real charm of his podcast is when he's fucking around and just having a good time with people like Joey Diaz, like what the boys do on O&A. But then in contrast for me what I can't stand is when he has his other friend Duncan Trussell (a commedian) and it is devoid of a joke for 3 hours as they talk about existentialism and its enough to make you wrap your mouth around a shotgun(IMHO).

Is Trussell the guy he has on all the time that sounds like Steve-O? I can't listen to the O&A channel when they play Rogan and that Steve-O sounding guy are babbling about nothing.

I fucking hate that Duncan Trussell. He's completely unfunny and annoying as shit. He ruined Rogan's stupid Bigfoot show. That and the dumb ass mugging Rogan did when someone would say something that supposedly surprised him. You'd think he'd never been on TV before.

I actually like him a lot more as a comedian/ podcast host / actor than I do as the ufc commentator. I love his work though, my favorite podcast is def the rogan show.

JRE is one of my go to podcasts. I like the shooting the shit ones as well as the serious ones. I'm down with the spirituality/metaphysical stuff so I like the ones with Duncan. My favorite ones are with Joey Diaz, but I skip all MMA fighters and I HATE Eddy Bravo with a passion.

Listened to his podcast pretty consistently for probably 2 solid years, kinda gave up on it mostly last year at some point. I found funnier podcasts. Show started getting a bit too serious.

I like him,hes interesting and makes some good points, but also Makes some out there false truths. I also have some friends who worship the ground he walks on, mostly because they think no one else knows abouts podcast
