Everyone has a Patrice pain in the ass story and then they also have a "Patrice surprised me with how much he cared" story. He was a big softy in the end
Don't know much about the ups and downs about his career, but just from listening to him on O&A, he pissed a lot of people off, and the only reason he got the (non-comedy) bit part on The Office was because he was so damn funny, and someone threw him a bone.
He never "sold out", he was what he was, and he would rather talk his mind on O&A than be a Tyler Perry clone. He was the only black comedian that would consistently play the race card, that I wouldn't say "ugh, you suck", instead, I'd laugh even if I disagreed with him, because he'd have a point, and honestly didn't care who judged him and who didn't. Dude just spoke his mind and killed it.

Thanks, man. He basically said as much on the air in one of his later appearances about the whole being a pain in the ass thing.

If I'm correct it's during this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZcmFeIyZNo
I think he also told the story on his episode of Mohr Stories https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1K4J3Dc-JFU

I remember one show he was talking about not eating meat because he loved animals but he would always struggle because they were all delicious.

I feel like 10 Years from now when Sam is the old man host we'll still be reminiscing about the Patrice days. In a good way.
