Bob Kelly and SiriusXM/O&A Channel feud?
3 2014-01-09 by bobbycalamari
Sam mentioned that there is bad blood between Bob Kelly and the people that run the channel. As a result, Bawby isn't wanted on air besides his Friends of the Show podcast (which as a side note was Troy's Segment edited out of the episode?). Any idea where this all stems from?

What are you talking about? I said they didn't want Troy on the air, not Bobby. Everyone loves Bob.

Well, lets not go overboard..

My bad, I misheard. I tried to rewind to listen again but everything got messed up in the app.
Sparked quite the discussion though

It's all good. My voice will do damage if listened to too closely.

Management needs to stay the fuck out of the Talent department.

What?? That's when the show is at its best imo.

Well it appears that comedians in studio is now the domain of RnF on RaaaDawg SeriousEXEM Comedy Hits Nintey-Nine.

Does that mean we'll no longer hear Bob Levy? Awesome.

Excuse me, sir! I'm sure you'd like that as you're sitting around scratching your balls all day, man.

if memory serves, "they" didnt like the amount of free plugs the comedy venues were getting. It wasnt a comic problem it was a lawyer/bureaucrat/lost revenue problem. And by "they" it was the old channel regime consisting of rob, gary and steve

Thats so dumb.. these comics have made the show what it is over the year and all they ask in return is to plug their silly stand up shows so they can get some benefit out of the classic bits they've been a part of over the years. The insane stand up talent that feel so comfortable just sitting around bsing is part of what makes OnA so great.

I don't think you understand.
a) The O&A Show is supposed to be a Media Destination, not a Comedy destination. The focus now is Celebrity Guests, not Stand-Up comedians who don't have a movie or a book to plug.
b) If the show is too funny, Howard won't like it.

I'm just a silly boy. I sowwy.

I wonder if SXM is getting ready to move the boys up the ranks when Howard leaves. Is the big bash a going away or "tribute"

I know im not alone here, but do any of the fans of the show listen for celebrity guests? You get the odd Tim Conway here and there but for the most part I listen to O&A to laugh, not to learn about the craft
1 nochinzilch 2014-01-09
You might be right, but I think what they meant by "media destination" was to create an environment where celebrities WANT to be on O&A. Rather than being afraid of them.
2 dickroach 2014-01-09
hm. might be the reason East Side Dave got shitcanned, too. he was always plugging his podcast (which happens to be on Bobby's podcast network)
2 OrionsPants 2014-01-09
Thats ridiculous. Those old shows when Patrice, Colin, or Bobby hung out reminded me of Tough Crowd radio. Let these poor bastards plug Slap Wacky's or whatever God forbidden small shithole they are booked to play.
2 dukefett 2014-01-09
This happened a really long time ago, they haven't had comic's plugs on air for years now. I don't think that has anything to do with any recent problems.
1 Buzz_Killington_III 2014-01-09
Same shit happens when celebrities hock their movies/books. Why are comics the problem? I don't think they're losing any add revenue from the Cellar.
Now that I think about it, I'll bet you're right. Every damn comedian has a podcast now, which is in direct competition with Sirius comedy radio. Makes sense.
1 nochinzilch 2014-01-09
I think one of the big media companies has a complete ban on comedy guests because they felt like the venues were getting WAY too much free advertising. I can't blame them, many comedian spots are all plug.

I just listened to the clip a few times and i think you misheard it.
"I don't know who programs Bob Kelly's podcast, but that was probably not a wise move (including Troy Quan on the YKWD show), considering people around here do not want him (Troy) on the air."
The Friends of The Show thing on saturdays airs podcasts (specifically last weekend had the Troy Quan episode).

Actually it is because Bob Kelly wrote convertible boy and the rap song and the channel doesn't want to be promoting a billboard top 40 artist too often or it looks like payola, since it's not a music channel and Bobby is such a great musician

When did Sam mention this? During his show or on O&A?
2 bobbycalamari 2014-01-09
It was during his the last 5 minutes of 1/8/14's Pre
CumShow, when a caller mentioned the the story Troy spoke about on YKWD1 dukefett 2014-01-09
At one point, years ago, they were O&A were told to not have comics on the air as much anymore. But that was forever ago, a while before Patrice died even. I didn't hear of any bad blood but bobby lives in the suburbs now and isn't a few blocks away anymore.
I do remember though when they were doing jocktober and were going to do their own show, Opie said, 'lets wait til monday and we can get bob kelly or some people in to make fun of it' and no one showed up to do that. Colin comes in now 10x more than anyone, he used to hardly come in.

I'd really like to know if that was just a bit that went too far or did Troy really lose control when he was yelling at that guy.
I still don't know and no one talks about it.
1 dirtfarmingcanuck 2014-01-09
It probably started out that way, but I think what we heard were two guys that weren't going to back down, and when push came to shove, neither one had the comedic chops to save the bit from spiraling into a schoolyard shouting match.
1 RickVince 2014-01-09
It was one of the most annoying things I've ever heard in my entire life.
