Agreed. I hope there's at least an OLD worst of thrown in later in the day. The last two weeks have me listening to to some other channels but mostly podcasts. The same show on repeat stinks.
ya but he's pretty much become the 4th mic on the show. I'd rather have him on o&a then have his own show. Plus if the show runs till 10:30, o&a would get some of the guests that would've end up on sams show.
Shitbag Sam couldn't find the Google homepage by typing it into Google. I can't count the number times that idiot has derailed the show because he is too stupid to use the Internet.
Lately Sam has been speaking up more and participating without being called on. Personally I don't mind it. Much better then Danny which we all probably agree with.
Yeah the Sam thing absolutely baffles me and it seems just entirely ambiguous imo; they have their very own channel w/ HOURS to fill w/ content: if young Sam (he's older than me lol) wants to do a show why not give the guy at least 2 full hours immediately following O and A??
Why wouldn't he be able to get in his 30 mins post-show? It's not like a different show is coming up after O&A. And isn't Ron & Fez starting later now on Raw Dog? So they don't have to clear the studio for them.
Because most people aren't tuning in to the radio from 3am-6am in California, or 4am-7am in Texas. But now they can actually listen to a O&A during their morning drive. "Prime" morning drive (when there are the most listeners) is 7:00am.
Don't forget to subtract the R&F listeners. Like you said the west coast are "potential" listeners. It was so stupid to drive away the established listeners that R&F brought in. Now they're banking on this move to work...seems foolish to me
If I'm Sam, I'm taking the next job that's offering me more money, if it's in radio or not. What the fuck is a 'pre-show show' at 6 am gonna be, and who the fuck is gonna listen to it. While I wouldn't have been a regular listener to a Sam show, he probably deserved a shot
Who the fuck is going to pay him more than his current over-payment to sound like a loose fan belt? Plus he loves radio so I don't see him leaving the medium, even though he should because he's a future Denny.
I did the math once when they gave a rough hourly wage on air based on actual hours worked, and he makes about $45,000 according to that. This was a couple of years ago though.
Take-home is probably close to that, if you factor the expense of commuting from WC every fucking day by car (which, even by big-city standards, can't be cheap).
I think anything he is paid is overpaid. I hate Sam and the nothingness he provides the show as a 4th mic. Behind the scenes, he's fine but keep his brillo pad ass off the air.
A half-hour 6AM slot broadcast nationally, right before a show the size of O&A is nothing to scoff at. Compared to the vast majority of radio people, he has a very nice studio, and reaches a huge audience. What were O&A doing at his age? Midnight local radio?
As someone who had to work his ass off for no money and sacrifice any semblance of a social life just to get a shot at local midnight radio (once a week I might add) I'd kill for Sam's gig, regardless of pay. I'm 27 and am generally considered to be on a good trajectory around here, by that comparison he is fucking killing it for his age. That said, I bet he is the least happy with the new arrangement.
I'm not in radio, but I am in media/marketing - which is less applicable to sat. radio than terrestrial - but I think this is a good move for Sam. He keeps part of his audience, gains a new slot, which always means new fans/followers, and he has a chance to do two shows, which means appealing to two crowds (if he chooses to). Plus being forced to do 30 minutes should be a good lesson in packing a show with content - something O&A have been lacking in for a while now. But I hear you on the radio side. I don't think everyone understands just how great of an opportunity Sam has, compared to practically 99% of radio personalities.
a) You'd have to be a fat dope not to have predicted that.
b) The question is did Ron&Pepper jump, or were they pushed?! Sabean wanted an LA friendly replay, so gave Ron a channel to free the timeslot. Or Ron saw O&A calling it quits after 20 years in Oct, and didn't want to be left high and dry, so gets his move sorted and settled in advance.
Either way Sambo got fucked roughly and dryly in the arse (6:00am) and throat (10:30am).
I tend to think so. I never cared for the other shows. I love Ronnie B and of course Jimmy but I could never get into their individual shows. I can see why some might think the sky is falling though.
I'm cool with this move cause now Sam will be isolated and I can intentionally avoid listening to him. Maybe since he has the pre and post show he won't be on so much during the actual O&A show. If that's the case it works out even better for me. I dunno why exactly but I really can't stand listening to him. His persona is too smarmy for me.
I don't like it. The channel is struggling. Losing R&F is the worst thing ever and not replacing them with a new show makes it even worse. What are they thinking? You are losing your audience! Not good!
And Sam would not have brought one new listener to the channel. I hate him so much.
They are losing a lot of casual listeners with R&F moving away. Instead of bringing 1 or two new exciting shows to the channel to replace them, which would draw in new listeners for the main show too, and momentum for the whole channel like R&F did, they are just going to play replays? It's fucking 2014 and your plan is to play the same replay over and over again the whole day? Seriously? This is a step backwards.
That would put Howard at #1 and the rest of the channels have terrible content. Its like saying the Yankees (also not #1) are better than all of the AAA teams.
Oh definitely. Even without the money for the advice show, Jim reaps the benefits of the platform to plug his shows and to draw O&A fans into his fanbase.
Why the fuck do we need a pre-show? I think this will cause listeners to just tune in at 7 because we all know the show will not start on time at 6:30. Also I'm sure the first break will be on the hour at 7. To me this move just kills vibe and tempo of the show. Fucking stupid.
Also, Sam routinely says he doesn't bring up some things he thinks the guys will cover on their show so WTF is he gonna talk about before O&A w/o stepping on toes? What, Erock and Sal are late?
NOTHING. Sam brings ZERO to the table. I can't handle the show lately because of him being 4th mic with his new found confidence. The aftershow was supposed to be an OnA recap and it lasted that way for 4 months, and now is just Sam doing what he wants.
Shut up dummy, Sam is doing a fine job. He creates a lot of content for the show, bringing up drama in the background, train wreck guests that can't be on the main show.
I keep seeing that as a defense of Sam's brilliant and obvious talent. Your typical 14-year-old girl has that same skill, and probably would be a lot easier to listen to.
Not sure I buy this. A pre-show is such an incredibly dumb idea, I have a hard time believing that can really be the plan. Not to mention, 30 minutes with a live read isn't much time to try to get something going...twice a day.
Wow, SiriusXM really is a horribly managed company. They are going to be hurting when they lose O&A because of mismanagement, and then lose Howard because he just doesn't give a shit about his show anymore, and I think more and more of his fans are starting to get sick of him.
It's sad too, because even if O&A do decide to move to a podcast, I imagine it would only be a weekly show, and I think you would lose a lot of the unpolished gold that the daily live show gives us.
Nope, it's still in effect, now Sirius has Howard in the morning and O&A in the afternoon, not that many people really care if it's live, just that it's topical for that current day.
I think that SXM's original plan was very different, and included a lot more changes. We know this all started with them trying to move the show to afternoons. This is probably part of the "compromised version" of their plan.
It's a troll. At least that is my guess. When you get conflicting information from the same source it is suspect. Opie said no announcement until the 6th. Not he has everyone spouting theories about behind the scenes management stuff.
For the record the time slot doesn't effect me as long as the onDemand works properly. West Coast here. I don't listen to HooHoo but I am a devout Ronnie B addict.

But if their definition of a start time is anything like it has been, O&A won't start their show until 6:45, so Sam gets 15 mins back there.

Sam is no more 4th mic, than Danny was. He's there to do google searches and speak when spoken to.

But Danny is a faggot, Sam rules.

that sam and denny show idea would have been fucking great, whoever came up with that the other week.

It happened in the first days of AOA, 50 minutes of video games, wrestling, and callers calling them fags.

They're trying to start the replay as soon as possible so the West Coast can hear it. Sam is getting fucked.

The only people that care about Sam or who would enjoy him are O&A super fans, and they'll just tune in at 6:00am like they would anyway.

And Bobbie Roberts. Don't forget about Sam's mommy.
20 scottm4211 2014-01-04
And that folks, is Tim Sabean in action. What a dud.
11 krbin 2014-01-04
Yep, move R&F to another channel and cut the aftershow in half so the West Coast can hear the O&A replay? This is the brilliant Sabean strategy?

They are going to be hurting because it's an obsolete technology. O+A are non factors in regards to the success of the company
2 [deleted] 2014-01-04
This is a great move:
O&A is now a morning drive show on both coasts, as well as being more accessible to everyone in between.
Jim can actually plug O&A to fans of his on the west coast.
Casual SiriusXM morning drive listeners no longer turn on the O&A channel and hear R&F.
Sam gets a prime slot for the diehard fans that tune in at 6AM everyday (these are also the people most likely to know/like him anyway).
1 Jackc1959 2014-01-04
Enjoy O&A while you can. The end is beginning. Didn't want to do what Sabean wanted. Well Tim will have his destination channel minus O&A...bye bye

Nope, it's still in effect, now Sirius has Howard in the morning and O&A in the afternoon, not that many people really care if it's live, just that it's topical for that current day.
1 OpiesTits 2014-01-04
Lol. It's an "drunk buffer". Now Anthony has until 6:29 to show up to work groggy, tired and tame.
1 flitterio 2014-01-04
Ant probably doesn't want to come in later due to traffic. I'll bet 6:30 is a compromise with Ant after he refused to start at 7:00.
1 [deleted] 2014-01-04
What a flop.
With a start time of 6:30, does that mean they won't actually be live until almost 7am because they play the theme music and clips?

I don't know that I believe it...if it's a troll, it's subtle, but it just kinda stinks?

OH NO FUCKING WAY, WHO WOULDVE FUCKING THOUGHT
1 christschinn 2014-01-04
Davey Mac's show is being taken off. Put on hiatus. So I guess the channel is becoming 100% OnA?
3 GleepGlorpFloopdedoo 2014-01-04
Soon to be 0% O&A.
1 Mrcoxie 2014-01-04
Jim's advice show is presumed canceled as well.
1 fervt 2014-01-04
They are really shaking things up.
1 badbillypratt 2014-01-04
Ant flipped a table over this? I guess it will fuck up his exit out of the city. I bet he still leaves at 10 everyday. Bummer

I think that SXM's original plan was very different, and included a lot more changes. We know this all started with them trying to move the show to afternoons. This is probably part of the "compromised version" of their plan.
1 flitterio 2014-01-04
What does Bob Kelly think of SXM splitting the Bob and Sam show in half like that?
1 rosyyoshi 2014-01-04
called it.
0 BlueScreenOfDer 2014-01-04
It would be nice if they added a new live show in the 3-7PM timeslot to cover both morning and evening drive shifts.

Edit stupid autocorrect OPIE not OPINE.

Just what we need. More Sam.
16 Kneecaps 2014-01-04
? It's the same amount of Sam.
-3 hangout_wangout 2014-01-04
Sammay! I require more than 30 minutes from him.
-9 BenSparks 2014-01-04
If history is an indication, Sam will not be allowed to mention this sub reddit anymore
3 bobbycalamari 2014-01-04
what's the history?
3 BenSparks 2014-01-04
Anthony censored the show from mentioning in order oa.net, fba and then wackbag because he's a thin skinned asshole
1 bcb77 2014-01-04
Sam is no more 4th mic, than Danny was. He's there to do google searches and speak when spoken to.
2 flitterio 2014-01-04
But they paid him for his advice show in lieu of giving him a raise. This is a pay cut for Jim.
