They say racism is taught, which I believe is true. However, I also think that much of the outrage that results from racism is also taught. My wife is Korean and I crack racist jokes on her all the time and I have to explain to her why they're racist because she never seems to think they are a problem. Even when she hears racial slurs when I'm not around, she's not offended because they don't really have any meaning. It's all the emotion behind it. Society is just ridiculous when it comes to this stuff. But aw, heck, you guys know all that. What do I know? I just hit the job site, unwrap a hammer on Christmas morning and get back to work.
Nobody has more fun with racial humor than black people, as Patrice once pointed out. It's mostly the benevolent white overlords who put on the outrage displays.
While his original tweet was stupid, and a bit racist, good for him not backing down. What I want to know is where's the outrage like with the duck dynasty guy. Oh yeah he is white and Darnell Dockett is black.
The double standard itself is nauseating. I agree with you on the rest - the people who have reacted to it (like Deadspin) who see fit to compare dumb, but ultimately harmless, jokes to Japanese concentration camps are vile.
In the end, outrage itself typically is media-created, not media-reported; they're for-profit enterprises, and they know that controversy sells.
Deadspin is a Gawker property. Gawker Media's primary product is manufactured outrage. If they were legitimately angry about this I would disagree but understand. But it's all about pageviews.
Totally, totally agree. So much of the "outrage" regarding any controversial/non-PC comments are media driven it's insane. Though, to be fair, they wouldn't do it if the public didn't respond to it.
Legitimate racism/sexism/homophobia is horrid. But the haughtiness involved with relatively innocuous comments that some people from the left (full disclosure, I'm a pretty big liberal) display is just douchey.
The cases are a bit more nuanced than "hes black and hes white." One told a joke, the other is constantly preaching that gays are filthy, destroying america, etc etc with no attempt at humor whatsoever. Look up some videos of him preaching. I'm not condoning what happened to him, but its not the same thing, lets not pretend.
It's a stupid joke but good for him. Fake apologies solve nothing. Also look at his fucking twitter picture. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he makes black jokes too and isn't a sensitive faggot about this kind of shit.
Man, the spanking thing is such a great analogy. That's really what this shit always boils down to - people wanting the "offender" to be publicly spanked.
Bra-vo Darnell Dockett.... This is what the boys have been saying. If everyone does this, downplays the outrage, and doesn't give in with the fake apology all this PC shit will eventually go away. (It will never "go away" but it wont be as popular and acceptable)

Interesting story about China. I heard King Kong once went to Hong Kong, and played a game of Ping Pong, with his Ding Dong.

Internment camps.

A non-story but if this was a white guy, he'd have already been fined, suspended, and fake apologized. Good thing he has no endorsement deals.
9 whydoyouask123 2013-12-24
Remember Riley Cooper, that white Eagles receiver said he'd " fight all these niggers" at some show? Yeah, he's still playing, and he's really good.
I remember when people were saying that he'd be fired.
4 fogrob 2013-12-24
But, he did apologize.
