I wish the 2nd Patrice benefit's proceeds only went to Patrice's family, and not also some charity for stroke awareness. Anyone else agree?

Not that I'm against charity. Hear me out. But I know when money goes to Patrice's family, it's money they deserved and needed, the same money Patrice deserved to make as a living comic. It's the same destination Patrice was paying in order to keep his sick mother healthy. I don't care if Von and Big Mama spend it all on rims or a house made of chocolate, in my opinion, they deserve it. (That was accidentally a really racist example)

But now the 2nd benefit is gonna have part of the money go to help victims of strokes. A noble goal... but what particular charity is doing that? How do we know it's legitimate? When I give to charity, I like to vet it to make sure it's legitimate, so I hope Billy and co pick a good, vetted, legit one. But this isn't easy to tell.

Charities are some of the most corrupt money laundering organizations around. Susan G Koman is one example, and because they're seen as well-intentioned, universally moral, and angelic, criticizing them is difficult. Good charities are some of the greatest things on the planet. Most exist as institutionalized guilt trips to make a few people rich.

Also, let's forget intentions. When an institution becomes involved, funds are misplaced, tied up in well-meaning bureucracy, funneled into education institutions (let's say for medical research) who then multiply the problem, are also less well run, etc. Money is spread thin.

The effect is one of meandering rather than a direct hit. The money raised, the benefit, turns from a solid into a gas. An idea.

I dunno, I just feel weird that this, in my opinion, unambiguously righteous cause has now introduced some ambiguity. Before, I knew it was 100% good, and I KNEW my money and the sentiments of the cause were aligned. Now, I can only hope.

If they're following the idea that the money is to replace Patrice's earnings which he would have helped out his family with (which I think is what Bill said); then I completely agree that most, if not all, of the money should go to the family. Then it can be their decision how much to donate - if any - and where to.

Did they ever have his fiancé back on to clear up all that drama about his will?

What happened with his will?

She came in once and said that she wasn't able to get any of the stuff from Patrice's place - she said that before he died they got engaged but they didn't tell anyone and so she wasn't included in his will or something like that.

Just going of memory here but I'm pretty sure that's right.

EDIT: Found a link, Florentine in studio and Von comes in at 2:30:30 and talks about it. Haven't got time to listen to it but in the first couple of minutes she says they were engaged to be married a couple of weeks after he died but hadn't told anyone. After that, I think she talks about some disagreements with his family over personal possessions. One of the boys has a great line about his mother discovering his dildo collection if I remember correctly.

On the way to work the other day, I thought, "Really, again?" I was angry.

I get it, burying your son/father isn't easy. The morgue, the funeral home, and lawyers need cash. The cash isn't readily available.

However, do we really need to fund Patrice's family for another fucking year. When will it end? There is charity and there is waste. Von's entertainment career is shit.

Norton and Company need to insist that 0% of these dollars will go to Von. At least 80% of the funds should go to Patrice's kid's college fund. The rest should go to Patrice's mom because she's poor and raised Patrice.

It's kind of to keep his memory alive too.

I know all about Patrice and Vons' relationship, how he treated her, etc., but I think he'd want her and her daughter taken care of. His mother should come first but what's everyones issue with helping Von?

You know that Patrice isn't that girls real father, right? I ain't mad at Bill for doing this again, and hope that he continues to do this year after year. He misses his friend and wants to do something to keep his memory alive and support his family. Over a year after his death, Bill went on Conan and promoted the first benefit and damn near broke down just talking about it.

But I agree, all proceeds should go to the family, let them decide on what (if any) charity should get anything.
